I have never heard of this Paleyfest. It seems intersting.  I'm in Texas but there is an IMAX Theatre in Dallas that is going to show it.  If there are still tickets left I will buy one.  I just don't have anyone I know interested enough to go with me!!! Ugh....

Is it going to be on the IMAX screen or just at another screen at that theater?  I can't imagine seeing JP on an IMAX screen... :icon_eek:

I don't know that we can say yet that he's been having lots of urges. I do think he's definitely begun to look at sex in a different way now that it's on the radar for himself ("He could be having the time of his life", "Boy howdy, is it magic", and so on), but we haven't really been given hints that it's gotten to the stage where it's on his mind most of the time or that he has more and more urges. I think the writers are planning to drag it out for a while still, if he were having all those urges already he wouldn't last all that long! There's some awakening but it'll still be a while before we're given hints as an audience I think.

Having said that, like I mentioned somewhere else before, his obsession with doing things in threes might translate to the bedroom. Bet Amy wouldn't mind that particular application of his OCD tendencies. lol ;)

Yes you're right. I think that the writers will give us announsement of this at the end of the season, a sort of snap, and all  will...grow ... and will become visible :icon_redface:  ;)  in season 7

I'm sure this has been discussed already on here so sorry for repeat, but I just can't stop rewatching the Valentine's Day episode especially the SHAMY scene where Sheldon gives Amy the emergency contact paper work.  There are so many amazing things about the scene from the eye coitus at the door to way Sheldon smiles at her.  To fact that Amy almost sat in Sheldon's spot and even patted the spot and he didn't complain, but actually was happy to come sit next to her.  The way he said it was most thoughtful gift he ever gotten meaning he recognized that Amy truly understands him better than anyone.  And she gave him just what he wanted even though he was willing to give her what she wanted by going out to dinner in the first place instead of staying in to eat Pizza on Thursdays like Sheldon usually does.  I love that earlier in episode he told Alex that he thinks Amy's favorite color is gray and then later in that scene she is wearing gray tights and he is wearing lots of gray too for their night out.

I also love way Amy got all choked up about the present and was sincerely touched by his thoughtfulness.  I know some people think Amy gives into Sheldon too much, but i see it differently, I think she understands Sheldon better than anyone even better than Leonard and that because she loves him she is willing to compromise to make him happy.  But, she also knows how to stand up for herself like she did last week when he said she couldn't live with him.  I think Sheldon knows she's the one and he is just taking his time.   He wants to enjoy all little moments with her and not just rush things because I truly think based on wording of his relationship contract that he plans to be with Amy "here and after"  and each little milestone of their relationship is like for him putting together that DEATHSTAR it takes time and focus and you dont' want rush it because its fun thing to do anyway.  He's grown so much and so has Amy and I feel like there is so much more waiting for them and one day they will accomplish ALL of their goals both careerwise and relationshipwise.  I just want to see them do it together and keep progressing and evolving and honestly for me its weird even watching older seasons before Amy was on show because even though I love those seasons I feel like Sheldon and Amy truly belong together and he is funnier, more interesting character with her in his life.  I just hope we get at least one scene of them together in the upcoming new episode cause their scenes have become my all time favorites :)

Wait...what's "growing" and "becoming visible" ??!?!?! :icon_eek:  :icon_razz:

It's funny, I went back and read through my SIK story (Excitation Experimentation) and there are a couple of phrases or sentences I really don't remember writing!  There's something about "thrumming" that I totally do not remember!

But I like the idea of Sheldon "thrumming"... :icon_wink:

Which is by Meg, from Fan Forum. I love this story as well - it brings to life what "whimsical inventive" sexual Sheldon would be like.

Oh  If Sheldon will be like in that story... oh man ... I  think  I'd need an inhaler because I would have problems to catch my breath :icon_lol:

Too bad that this is probably not possible.. :icon_redface: . That would be a treat .. :icon_redface: :icon_redface:

I always love Miss Lio's insights and here is her take on the whimsically inventive comment:

I see "whimsically inventive" as part of a certain side of Sheldon that he sees and cherishes in himself that not everyone else sees or might even agree he has. For instance, it parlays into past declarations from him such as "I'm the whimsical elf that everyone looks to for a good time" or "what's life without whimsy" or"Amy Farrah Fowler is not the free spirit that I am."

Of course, whenever Sheldon says these things about himself everyone looks at him as if he is nuts. The idea of Sheldon, who is so rigid in his scheduling and desire for total control over his domain that he even tracks and maintains a bathroom schedule, seems, on the surface of it, completely absurd. Most would argue that Sheldon is not remotely whimsical, and that this addition to his description of his imaginary sex life with Amy is absurd. I think it's far from it - in his head, at least.

The show has gone out of its way to allow us access into Sheldon's imagination and psyche, and what an interesting landscape (literally) that looks like. His guilty conscience manifests as Gorns, he has considerably long conversations with a tiny Spock doll, and a large portion of his mind is given to imaginative interaction with comic books and video games and science fiction. He spends considerable amounts of time mathematically proving there are other dimensions and imagining what those dimensions would be like. (In one, he's a clown made of candy!) He has countless toys and other items from science fiction with which he's itching to play, collects swords with Leonard and other items we've seen he enjoys. We've seen that he makes up his own board games - he made up 3-person chess with golf carts and swarms of bees and and transporter pads, and he made up...what was it? A "Nuclear Reactor" board game? He sits at lunch with his friends and instead of listening to their gripes about their lives, ponders the implications of being a human being genetically mixed with algae so he can enjoy an outdoor concert from the best view and nourish himself on sunlight.

Sheldon truly is, at heart, an incredibly imaginative man. Honestly, that's his whole job. His theories haven't been proven, but they live and breathe in his own head. Sheldon sees and understands things that no one else can, and that's why he's a Theoretical Physicist (imaginative) vs. an Applied Physicist (practical), like Leonard. And Sheldon, at his core, values the imaginative over the practical - that's why he chose that discipline over any other. That is what he actually devotes his entire life and intellect to.

I truly believe that Sheldon's inner landscape is as incredibly imaginative and creative as his reality is controlled and rigid and as unchanging as he can make it. Or has tried to make it in the past to deal with his multiple phobias, fears, anxieties which probably stem from a miserable and lonely childhood when no one around him could make heads or tails of what was going on inside his head, but they knew it was abnormal and that led to mocking, bullying, alienation and other torments rather than the amazement and celebration it deserved and Sheldon KNEW, rightly, that it deserved. So I have no idea believing that, in Sheldon's imagination, and in his viewpoint of himself, that his sex life with Amy is "whimsically inventive" because that's his true estimation of his inner character and, for this entire season, the type of man Sheldon has been struggling to get closer to actually becoming.  He wants, desperately, to be a man who has frequent, intense, whimsically inventive sex with his girlfriend, that is his utlimate goal, which is why that's what he willingly latched onto the idea of selling that concept of himself to Kripke.

"Whimsically inventive" is a self-definitation that Sheldon likes, that he values, and hence this is why he's working towards really becoming, one hackey-sacking session in the basement, one Amy hug-enduring Valentine's Day at a time, that concept of himself which he holds true in his head, no matter how close to the vest he plays it in real life.

Again, this whole dual-nature aspect of Sheldon is the major reason I find his character so intriguing. It's interesting to imagine what Sheldon would have been like if Pop Pop, the only man in his life who encouraged his passion for science, had lived longer than when Sheldon was 5. It's obvious from Sheldon's total and utter hatred of Christmas and Santa Claus that this loss affected him deeply, and caused a lot of the regression and suppression that separates Sheldon's rich, personal, inner world and his controlled, austere, outer world. What I love about Amy, besides her own personal charms, is that she's the key to unlocking all of that which lies inside of Sheldon. He's spent his whole life keeping his inner landscape very well hidden. First, Leonard came along and Sheldon found a group of friends to whom he very slowly opened up to, finding common ground in the "nerd" aspects of science fiction and game playing, and despite whatever Sheldon might say or do, he cherishes those friendships and he needs them. Then Penny came along, and as she began to push Leonard out into the real world, so she also pushed Sheldon as a consequence of her being there to accept her and make adjustments to get used to her and her ways in his world. At last, along comes Amy, and she is pushing him through the last and hardest miles with Leonard and Penny cheering and assisting her along the way.

Now, both in order to hold onto her and because the idea of striving towards the real vision of himself that Sheldon has locked away for so long appeals to him, Sheldon's playing hackey-sack (a hippie-dippy thing!) in the basement to "deal with" his emotions, he's proud of himself for "making progress" on touching other people, particularly Amy, he's making statements of what he imagines their sex life is going to be like, and he's acting like a grown up and showing signs of empathy more and more often. It's been a fascinating progression, and at times it's painfully slow, but it's a remarkable awakening nonetheless, and Amy is the key to the whole thing. Also, I think that Amy is going through her own progression as well, where I think she's getting past her social awkwardness, her own hesitations, and also her oftentimes immature imaginings of what romance and friendship with the "popular" crowd is really like, and coming to embrace the reality of what she's got. Which is just as interesting, and I wish they'd spend as much time on it as they are on Sheldon's progression.

Not to mention, I wish that Meg was here to tell me how this all works in psychological science.

Sorry if this move was entirely illegal, but I found that question really tantalizing and I wanted to speak my mind on it, but I don't have an account over there.

Welcome Sheps88!   :icon_mrgreen:

Sheps, I think that the 'whimsically inventive' along with the frequent and intense words are the four most important words (besides "It's a possibility") that came out of that episode. It tells me that Sheldon not only probably fantasizes about it, but believes that when they do have coitus that they will be all of those things.  They will have it frequently, it will be intense and yes, they, as scientists, will be experimental and playful therefore the whimsically inventive aspect.   He knows that neither of them have experience so they will be "making it up as they go" so to speak.   :icon_lol:

Yes, Welcome! It seem that before this scene he gave it a LOT of thought about what Leonard should tell Kripe if he asks. Whether or not he thought long and hard about the details is another matter altogether. :icon_mrgreen:  Personally, I believe he did and came up with his description based on some of this thoughts on the matter. His descriptions fits him!

I don't know if this has already been discussed, but I find it titillating. In The Cooper/Kripke Inversion, Sheldon tells Penny and Leonard to tell Kripke that his coitus with Amy is "frequent, intense, and whimsically inventive". That being said, I understand his reasoning behind the first two, "frequent" and "intense", since he is attempting to convince Kripke that his work is suffering solely from the fact that his sex life with Amy is so demanding of his time. But why add "whimsically inventive"? I think Sheldon enjoys the idea of having sex with Amy, but more to the point, I think he enjoys thinking that he will be great at it. He seems to carry an adorable, nonchalant, and delusional confidence about the matter that may just help him get over all of his phobias. I'm hoping that he can hold on to a bit of that confidence while Amy is present.

Whimsically inventive would be exactly how I would describe Sheldon. Is he a "mainstream" type of person? No! Is he unusual, to the point of odd? Yes! Could the things he is interested in and the way he approaches his interests be described as "whimsically inventive"? Yes, I would say so...

Yeah I noticed it too. That he like to thinking about himself making love with Amy in conversation with Kripke he is so confident and macho compared to Kripke and his attitude is like Yeah I can have sex and you not... so I think that is big step for their relationship. A big step to have whimsically inventive time with Amy.

His general cockiness these past few episodes has been something I've noted. It would lead me to suggest he is having strong emotional and physical reactions and attractions to his girlfriend. To put it bluntly, Ladies: I believe Sheldon has been petting his snake and thinking of Amy lately! :icon_mrgreen:

By experimental and playful you mean ... like  toys... ;)  :icon_lol:  He said  that he has a rocket next to his bed so...

Every time I see Howard's model rocket I envision new ways for Sheldon and Amy to incorporate into their sex life. :icon_twisted:

The reason that the "whimsically inventive" comment intrigues me so much is because Sheldon has been nothing short of clinical when it comes to sex. "Whimsically inventive" is an entirely new perspective for him, or at least it is new to the audience. Looks like Smelly Pooper may not find sex so clinical afterall  :icon_wink:  :icon_lol:

His perspective on sex has changed. As well as his perspective on Amy, their Relationship and his emotional attachment to her. Her's has as well. I seriously doubt she would describe his lovemaking as follows:

And to think that Amy's idea of what sex might be like with him--at least, the definition she gave to Bernadette in HGG--was "effective but aloof" or something like that.  Hmm... :D

Now I would bet she would be almost as inventive as Sheldon in her descriptions. Still, I believe he has given it much more thought than she has lately.

I have never heard of this Paleyfest. It seems intersting.  I'm in Texas but there is an IMAX Theatre in Dallas that is going to show it.  If there are still tickets left I will buy one.  I just don't have anyone I know interested enough to go with me!!! Ugh....

If only I had somebody to go with me! I would pay the $499 (in fact I have that right now...) in a heartbeat!

Oh I think he has definitely had a whole new thought process going on about sex.  You are right it has always been clinical in the past (the concept to him) and actually I would say he equated it as messy and sticky most of the time so that means he found it rather disgusting.  But I think he has been having more and more urges and finding Amy more and more appealing, even though he has been attracted to her for a while. His attraction was driven first  and strongest by her mind, but I also believe he has found her aesthetically pleasing to him all along.   But now, he is a man in love.  He may not have labeled it or perhaps knows he is in love, but refuses to admit it yet.   A man in love is going to look at the whole prospect of enjoying a physical relationship quite differently.  I think he is starting to see that it could be fun and pleasurable, thus he can now equate the act to new words.   ;)

Phanta, I keep thinking about her description and I suspect her description would differ today than back then as well.  But it is amusing how vastly different they describe their future intimacy.  :icon_lol:

The way he looks at her is like a man starving! :icon_eek:  He is both In Love and In Lust with Amy Farrah Fowler. :icon_mrgreen:

Wow that was one hell of a post Stardust. But I think it's spot-on. I've often noticed he likes to refer to himself as whimsical, in other contexts. And I remember when he told Amy "I'm the whimsical elf" and he was upset about not being the glue of the group. Penny kind of rolled her eyes at that, but Amy got it. "You're the most fun person I know".

It may be the beer talking, but I love you guys!

Re: Kripke and Wheaton. I have always hated people who were mean to my Sheldon. Just loathed them. Do not be mean to my Moonpie! And since Wil was mean to my Amy, he can still kiss my ass.

Now of course, I dig Kripke because he is a Shamy shipper! Not only that. he is a shipper from the smutty side of the street, y'all. Whereas Leonard is a Shamy shipper of the "Of course they are in love! Do you have attention span issues?" variety and Penny is the "Yes! Yes! Yes! Dear God in heaven! I knew it!" type.

That being said. I need Kripke to come back and say something very inappropriate to Amy about her status as seductress and corruptress. I want her to react in a way that confirms Sheldon's studliness while still conveying her own shock, dismay and innocent shyness. Also I really need to hear Kripke misprounce her name like only he can. And I will die happy if she calls him Elmer Fudd to his face.

I will also die happy if she eventually makes Wil Wheaton weep, bloody tears of remorse and anguish...

I always thought Wil might be the type to come on to Amy, but I know Kripke is a pervert so yes to the bold above.  I would love to see that happen and for her to at the same time find out about her 'sexual prowess with Sheldon reputation' at Cal-Tech.  It could lead to some very amusing scenes as well as lead to some hot and heavy Shamy scenes :wub:

Oh and about Barry...the thing with him is he makes a believable colleague/rival kind of character.  Wil, who I love to come on the show, isn't as good as an advesary because they don't share really anything other than an actor playing a part that Sheldon admired in common.   Leslie, well I didn't mind her, but she was rather flat as a character.  Other than calling Sheldon names, it seems she didn't really bring much to the table.

The way he looks at her is like a man starving! :icon_eek:  He is both In Love and In Lust with Amy Farrah Fowler. :icon_mrgreen:

God Particle, I think there is some truth to this, but it isn't as obvious to the general audience as it is to those of us who sit and ponder this couple so much.  But I do think he has been in love with and had a desire for Amy for a long time (probably since she first kissed him).   Which is why he was so bothered about Stuart and came up with all kinds of wacky thoughts about she and Stuart.

Chaliceanna, Miss Lio has some tidbit for you (and everyone on this board) that I am passing along.  I am adamantly in favor of her doing the fic:

Stardust, will you please tell her that's I'm in the process of writing a fan fic for that? It's going to involve an office picnic, and maybe Amy Farrah Fowler arriving dressed up as Little Red Riding Hood.

Let me know if ya'all approve of this concept. I seem to finish the best fan fiction when ya'all dare me to do it.

I am daring Miss Lio to do so here and on the other forum!   :D

Chalice, yes I have read that one.  Love it!  :)

Goodnight, Silverangel!  Sweet Shamy dreams. :D

I think the writers are planning to drag it out for a while still, if he were having all those urges already he wouldn't last all that long!
