Wow that was one hell of a post Stardust. But I think it's spot-on. I've often noticed he likes to refer to himself as whimsical, in other contexts. And I remember when he told Amy "I'm the whimsical elf" and he was upset about not being the glue of the group. Penny kind of rolled her eyes at that, but Amy got it. "You're the most fun person I know".

I agree.

I've noticed that his imagination is in full force--in the way he gets into costumes and role-playing games and even playing Wii, like the way he insisted on pulling "arrows" from his "quiver" before pretending to shoot them. And he wore a guard onnhisnhand said he were really using a real bow. And when they play Wii bowling, he also wears a wrist guard and puts talc on his hands, etc.

Unlike most adults, he never let go of that rich imaginative life that he must have had as a child. I hadn't thought of the parallel between his career choice and his internal life. Very interesting! :)

You guys crack me up! :) Lots of virtual - and probably actual - blushing in this thread right now, hehe. ☺

I read an interview recently (sorry, I can't for the life of me remember where or exactly who it was being interviewed) in which one of the BBT writers said something to the effect of, "don't worry, we're very aware in the writers room of the fact that people don't want Sheldon pushed too far. If anything physical does happen, it won't be for a long, long time." *Please forgive my sloppy paraphrasing.*I think the interview was published relatively recently.

Did anyone else see this? Do you think they are going to hold back to please the purists? I hope not!

I've never understood why some people think these characters won't be as authentic or funny or lovable if they change and move forward. I for one can't see BBT enjoying continued success without character growth. IMO, if Sheldon NEVER changed, he would look like a stagnant caricature living alongside real people. There's so much more comic potential in pushing the boundaries than there is in maintaining the status quo!

I agree with you 100% as well. I've always been easy going when it comes to character growth. It's true, it would be boring if they didn't spice things up a bit with some changes over the seasons.

Yes, I think I remember reading something someone posted here on the forum that the writers are very protective of Sheldon...hence, why they're moving him forward slowly.

Holding back to please the purists? Well, I'm guessing they will a little...but then again, just how many more seasons will we have left? 4 at the most (some people think it won't last even that long)? They're gonna have to get the ball rolling at some point.

Holy crap what the hell happened in here while I was sleeping??? LOL you people!!! Shall we put a rating on the thread so we can warn off the minors?

In any case, I think truth lies somewhere in between , as always. I think right now he has more sexual thoughts that one would think (hence all the cockyness, sex comments and the like) but I also think as far as urges towards her and especially approaching the subject with Amy he has a long way to go. I don't think Sheldon is THAT naive and innocent that he would get freaked out about it, I don't buy the whole pre-pubescent kid thing at all, if not in terms of his inexperience and the whole idea that sex was something he wasn't interested in partaking in, ala "girls have cooties", but he's a grown man after all you know... physiologically speaking. They've hinted enough at that I think.

That was Molaro, and he didn't actually say that they're doing it for people. He was asked whether it might "ruin a good thing" and he answered "maybe, but we're very careful with this couple and it will take a long time". I think it's a combination of both. Partly they want to drag it out, which makes sense, partly they are still too bothered by the purists. I do personally think the V-day ep hug was one of those please the purists moment, but overall they seem to be telling their story at their pace and that's fine. However, Molaro said that and then 6x14 came out! I did not see that one coming so soon in the game. When they say "a long time" I think they might not mean THAT long after all. I keep saying that we wouldn't have had that declaration so early on if sex is a series finale thing.

He doesn't need to spank her with an electric toothbrush when he's got his hands. LOL

True, but Amy might like him to use both lol

Seriously though I think Sheldon is still long way off from that, but maybe not in Amy or Sheldon's dreams ;)  I know they both have a kinky side that's for sure.

Or she can have multiple O's (3) or multiples of 3's....6, 9, 12 and he insists on whimsically inventive ways to make sure this happens.  :fi_lone_ranger:

Lol, yes Kiru that's more what I had in mind, I think having sex three times might be a bit ambitious. lol. I just think that there's so much comedic potential in his OCD tendencies when they actually do it, I can imagine all sorts of comments popping up during various episodes. It's going to be the irony of having the other girls envy Amy  :icon_lol:

Hey, spook,

Lionne, the one who posted that wonderful analysis about Sheldon's imaginative inner life, would love it if you would join the Fan Forum boards and post your thoughts there as well. :)

She lurks here and has been impressed with your posts. :D

Oh wow! *blushes*

I might, I've been tempted given the negativity around here later, I have to admit. But I think two forums to follow might be a bit too much, lol! I'll give it a go to say hi :)

Thanks for posting that here, Stardust. Lio's analysis was just beautiful and makes my day complete in the middle of work. Can't comment much so mostly lurking.. but the parallel between Sheldon's imaginative field of work (string theory), his rich inner life consisting of his fan-love passions, his dry and regimented outer self and his internal reaching out for imagination and whimsicality in his relationship with Amy.. is just remarkable. She's the one who sees him as 'the most fun person I know', isn't she. I still remember how that made him smile proudly.

I would actually be very happy to see Lio join here and Spook join there.. two of my favorite posters. However, I can understand how that might be like spreading themselves too thin. :) (I sometimes end up copy-pasting myself).

LOLOLOL y'all and your toothbrushes. :icon_lol:

Yes Miss Lio's analyses are always wonderful. She and meg provide great insight.

I agree with you, Monique, that pacing properly will be important.  While there are purists out there, many of the original purists have been won over already for Shamy and now are rooting like the rest of us for them to share more intimacy.  I think the number of purists is dwindling.   So I think that 6.14 was a pivotal turning point.   I hope that they still go at the pace they have been, but not go too fast, nor too slow.  Pacing is important in this case.   We don't know how many seasons they have left, but I do believe most think no more than four.   But they could only have 2-3 left as well (after this one that is) so who knows?   I am trusting that they are keeping the end-game in mind and figuring out the pacing to be correct.  So far I have been impressed with how they have handled the couple so can't complain.  :)

Spook, you, meg, Miss Lio and Miss Lauren would get along well.  You all have wonderful insights and articulate things beautifully. :icon_mrgreen:

Between talk of petting his snake and doing things in threes...

What if Sheldon were to ask Amy about Gerard? Or...ask her (in his own way) since they are not having sex, how she copes or he accidentally walks in her bathroom/bedroom while she's umm...brushing her teeth...

And converse!

The  interesting conversations are when here is  night  and  I'm sleeping ...

BTW, I know I'm not the only one who has ever thought about this since the first time Amy mentioned "Gerard": wouldn't using an electric toothbrush to "brush your teeth" hurt???? Hahahaha.

I meant as far as stimulating the gums, you catch my drift?? LOL!!!! I can't believe I'm typing this.

We all... Well, *Clears throat* Went To The Dark Side for a moment there. Yes. Yes. Yes. I caught that meaning.... Very uh, :icon_redface:  well VERY.

Yes, now. Uh, Sheldon and Amy... Where were we? :icon_mrgreen:

Oh you guys... :icon_lol:  :icon_mrgreen:  I just read this and  I laughed so hard ...We all are very good at intended puns  and happy accidents :icon_razz::icon_redface:

First he would be surprised and  disgusted, but turned on in the same time, and I think he wouldn't admit it in front of himself. Scientific curiosity would have win and it certainly would give him food for thought, and what she is doing it,and why... and if I could do it instead of "Gerard..." in one corner the scientific curiosity and love for Amy  the second corner "this is sticky, messy and disgusting"
