The Shamy Thread! (Season 6 Edition-Spoilers)

Hey, I have a new one shot fanfiction up.

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/9040838/1/Brain-Activity-Map-Project

Based on exciting real life science news and the injustice of the monkey poop incident.

Oh no you don't...it can't be a one-shot.  It was too good of a premise.  You simply must continue.  :icon_lol:   I really enjoyed it but am serious about continuing it.  :icon_mrgreen:

I am so excited over that project (for my own career too lol). I posted that article in the science thread a few days ago with a massive geek out :) It's a US wide thing and they're having something similar starting in Switzerland too. It's definitely a good time to be a neuroscientist :)

Someone who's on twitter should send that link to Bill Prady and give him some ideas ;)

I would guess that Mayim has mentioned it to them...it may be what they were hinting at in this past episode...a way to introduce Mayim into the Cal-Tech staff instead.   I would love that.   It does seem like it would lend itself to many more storyline opportunities and a way that she and Sheldon might be able to work jointly on something or at least cross paths.

I think the last ep was filmed before the news came out. But yes, with the addiction study coming full circle I'd love a bit of a shake-up in Amy's career. They focus too much on her as the girlfriend instead of her as the scientist, I like that it's going back to more science lines for her instead of besties and sex jokes. I would like them to expand that. I mean, this would be the absolute best way for them to progress in their relationship. And I keep saying that Sheldon accidentally winning a Nobel in yucky-squishy things at the end of the series for his work with her would be priceless.

In real life, there is a new project that they could work on together.

Cal Tech is combining Nano-technology with Neuro-science.

Physics and Neurobiology will be very linked.

It is very exciting.

Wow well maybe the writers  will use this fact  in Amy and Sheldon careers and relationship. They could be working side by side, admire one another even more, and because of  that their love could get more physical  colours.Common  work would give them new ways to look on their relationship from different sides and would give new chances to the writers for funny and sweet situations.  Because when we admire somebody we want to know other aspects of that person.  If Amy is so good in science maybe Sheldon will become more curious about her OTHER side, trying to find out in what  other things she is so good

Yes, please. :)

Chalice - Thank you so much for the lovely fic about something I've been excited about (in the context of Shamy and otherwise), ever since I heard of it. And please tell me this isn't really a one-shot!

Mayim has inside information before news comes out on the area of neuroscience though...she probably has known about what was in the works for a while in the field.  I remember her saying that by the time it becomes news, it has been known by researchers for years.   So I think she probably had insight already about it.   I would love to see that as well (about Sheldon's Nobel Prize...haha)

Well the idea of the human brain mapping and the supercomputer project has been going around for years, but that it was actually going ahead I only found out on the day the news came out. She doesn't actively work in neuroscience so I'm kind of doubtful she gets that much inside info, besides keeping up to date with stuff. She would probably know before the producers that's for sure, but not before people who actually work in the field, lol. :p

All I know is that she keeps up with her professors at UCLA.  She had an article about that once...that she is still in touch with them and visits there now and again and that one of them does provide advice for the show now and again. So it would not be a stretch for her to have a bit more inside information on things going on before the news comes out.  You are right, she is out of touch compared to people who do it daily, but Mayim is resourceful and I think she does try to stay on top of as much as she can.  She  still seems to be very well versed in her field.

I kind of blew my science wad on that chapter...lol.

But maybe I won't have to do too much science to continue.... I was defeated in my science education by the fact that I never saw anything I was supposed to in my microscope.

Neuron is an interesting journal!

I'm not doubting she is in touch with professors or anything. I'm just saying it seems a bit of a stretch that they wrote Amy being kicked off the addiction study because Mayim knew about these projects and they've been planning something along those lines. Like I said, she might have known about the project because the idea behind these projects are old news, it was already going around when she was still in grad school, everyone's been pushing for these for years. But the news itself was about this projects finally getting funding. When it comes to funding nobody knows in advance what will be funded or not, you just have to wait for the people with the money to make the call.

They might use it now but it might be that the addiction study was completely unrelated and might not even be mentioned again. We'll see. I'd be VERY excited if this were used in some way. And as more than a one-ep thing.

Yay...I just bought tickets to the local theater to BBT at Paley Fest in March.  I can't wait!

I agree, Spook. It seems ripe for the picking right now for them to use it though.  Sure they may not have known about it when they taped that episode, but they only have one more taped right now since and by now they do know about it so that means they can consider it as a possibility.   It depends on what they want to do, but they would be foolish to forego the idea because it opens up a lot of opportunity for future storyline.

I like Neuron! It's one of my favs (yes, I have favorite journals depending on their formats, lol. My life is that sad).

Monique, I know you said you will be at Paleyfest...anyone else attending or going to a theater for the live feed? I hear they will be taking audience questions. Anyone brave and/or assertive enough to fight through the crowds and seize that opportunity? I'd say we've got more than a few burning questions that we'd all like answered (or addressed at the very least) ;)

I'm going to my local theater to see it!

I don't know if I have a question or if I'm brave enough to ask.

What fascinates me is the technical or physical aspects if doing the show and I would probably totally geek out over JP and not be able to ask anyone else anything. :p

One question I have thought of would be something like, "do any of you have any 'horror stories' of something going terribly wrong during a production, either a play, or TV or movie?"

But I don't know if that would be lame.

My question would be how do the writers envision the first 4 months after Sheldon met Amy: how did that date in the coffee shop go, who exchanged numbers first and who got in touch first.

I keep hoping down the road we will get a flashback...maybe when they get engaged or something.   Just like they did the flashback of Leonard meeting Sheldon and how the elevator was blown up...it would be nice to fill in that piece of information of their history.   It would be a cute way to bring that out...on a milestone moment.

It isn't a lame question, but I think Jim talked about a horror moment during Harvey in some interviews he did last summer.   On TBBT, I doubt they have many horror moments given it is filmed in front of a live audience.  They are pretty much well oiled before they begin taping.   He may have a movie moment that he could talk about.  I know in Harvey he talked about how one night the lights didn't work (power didn't work) and another time when a supporting actor kept forgetting his lines and Jim had to mouth them to him.  :icon_lol:

At the other forum a question came up about Amy singing Sheldon soft kitty.  Of course many think this is a Sheldon/Penny/Mary thing only.   And it probably is because they are two women who are mother-figures to him in a way.

However, here was my response:

To be honest, I don't see anyone singing it to him again. I think they are transitioning Sheldon from needing that. He is secure in his relationship with Amy. Amy loves him and is patient with him and as many have said, I don't see her singing it to him. I could see him singing it to her before she sang it to him.

I also don't think they will have Penny or Mary sing it to him again. I think they are going to walk away from that chapter in his life. He is no longer the toddler boy that needed to be comforted with that song. He is growing up and becoming the man he wants to be for Amy. Therefore he doesn't need the song sung anymore by anyone. Instead he just needs Amy by his side.

Can I just say the whole Soft Kitty thing drives me up the wall? Who cares! Everyone seems to give so much weight to this thing, like it's meant to mean something trascendental when it was never meant to be in the first place: it was just a cute lullaby that was funny because Sheldon is a man-child. I don't think it's a Penny/Mary exclusive nor that if Amy will not sing it to him it means she's not as special nor that if she does sing it to him she's a mother figure nor that only mother figures can sing it to him. Imo, it's so much ado about nothing. I can't believe there are discussions over discussions about this.

I agree. I only want to hear soft kitty again if Bernadette is forced to do it after she exposes him to something awful, and he is in quarantine. Amy and Penny stand out side the observation window, giving her the stink eye until she does it.

And he makes her stop because she makes it sound like the Chipmunks.

Soft kitty is a great song to sing to your cats when you feel the need to sing to your cats. Other than that, put it to rest.

I would love it if Sheldon was passed that. To see him refuse it from his mother, even.

I tend to agree, but I also think it defeats where they have been going storyline to bring him back to a needy toddler level.   That was my point...not that I care if Amy sings it to him or not.   I just don't think it is necessary any longer.   I agree it is silly...but don't you think that it is because some still have a "Shenny" feel when they see that?  Maybe that is what is making everyone want to hang on?  I don't know.  Sheldon, of course, was adorable when playing a toddler like guy, but now he has decided that it is more important to be a man for his woman.   He has a woman that is far more important than hanging on to the little boy image he once had.  He now wants Amy more than anything and wants to be all he can be for her.   He said so himself with the Spiderman speech.   I think that was my point...more emphasis about that then the song itself.

YESSSSS!  That is what I was trying to say.  He grew up and doesn't need that anymore.  :icon_wink:

It might very well be that he's outgrown it. I do think that the next ep Mary will be on will be exactly about that. Well, not the song, per se, but I bet it's going to be about how Amy's stepped into the role of comforter and it will be a coming of age episode for Sheldon and his mother. Having said that, I honestly could not care less whether it's sung again, not sung again, who sings it or plays it on a xylophone. Unless they want to use it in a flashforward with aunt Penny singing it to the little Shamy(s), just for the Shenny reactions. LOL.

I know I'm late : but its all deliberate. They have Sheldon NOT reciprocating on PURPOSE.

They've been teasing us all season : Amy talking about Sheldon's thin lips, Him saying hers is too slippery, Bernie's comments about the sex life, Sheldon chicken pecking and talking about spider sex.

Its all too convenient.

Something physical will happen to end the season...I'm sure o it.

I keep hoping they will find a way to bring Mary on this season...even if they have to have her Skype and talk to Sheldon or Amy or both.  I really would like to see it happen.  I know they did that with Christine when she was filming still in NY last year. I t would be better than not having her at all, IMO.   Sure I would like her there in person, but if they can't do her in person, than let her Skype and bring back some scenes to do exactly as you said, Spook.  I agree it is important and probably what the writers were hoping to do.

Kiru, I think something physical will come as well...most likely a kiss.  They have been building to it all season.

I really don't want her to work at Caltech though.

I can see your point (based on the other board) and don't really care if they keep her at UCLA, but I don't have an issue with her working at Cal-Tech either. I can see advantages and disadvantages either way.   I suppose it depends on what Sheldon would like.  Perhaps he would support her coming to Cal-Tech.  Obviously if he didn't then I would want her staying at UCLA.
