The Shamy Thread! (Season 6 Edition-Spoilers)

Recommended Posts

I don't mean he was dumbed down just for this episode, I mean he's been dumbed down in general since sometime about the middle of last season and definitely through all of this season. What I am alluding to is the idea that this is deliberate to portray Sheldon as acting a little more naive on purpose to hide feelings and thoughts that he's not comfortable with expressing, let along even having, as of yet. But knowing things about sex, such as that getting a blow job would be the time of a man's life, and knowing the head movements that go along with it, indicate Sheldon has had to have SEEN that done at some point in his life. We know he hasn't had that done to him personally, and I doubt he stood by and watched Leonard and Penny have sex even if he has had to listen to it, and he would not have gotten the movement out of a book.

I don't know if he stumbled across it accidentally. I don't know if he's peeked at it from time to time out of curiosity but then backed out with his heart hammering in his chest. I'm not quite sure that is up with all of it, because the writers are obfuscating a lot. But there's been hints here and there which are either lazy writing, or massive hints that Sheldon is getting more curious about sex and doing work on his own to cope with whatever he's trying to get himself through.

This is what confuses me, why put forth the effort to make Sheldon knowledgable about sex, but still not able to be physical even a little bit with Amy.  If he is curious, he has someone willing to help him explore!

Also, I hope Sheldon has not watched porn.  Being new to this aspect, and a germaphobe, I don't think porn would convince him.

It is a bit inconsistent. how much is he researching?? maybe Amy will pleasantly surprised when they do actually get physical. lol

This could be Sheldon's hope. You know he's always saying that he is good at everything, knows about everything etc...but I believe his insecurity all along is that he knows he is not and does not.  He will want to be somewhat functional in that area because he cares about how Amy views him.

I don't know who has seen this and who hasn't, but since some of the ladies thought there was a new episode tonight and were disappointed when they found out there wasn't, this is a little something to cheer you up. Jim looks quite sexy doing push-ups, if I do say so myself  :icon_redface:  ;)

Just watched Jim on Kimmel and he mentioned Mayim. Ahhh. Seriously, he was saying how she knew so much about science and when he said "Mayim Bialik, who plays my girlfriend on the show is a neuro....something or other" I had an inner fangirl moment. Kimmel said he thought she was Blossom and Jim she was but then she "got really smart". haha I hope someone uploads it to youtube.

Dang! I missed it!  I'm glad he mentioned Mayim, and it seems like he admires her.

Yeah, I just caught it as it was starting. I'm sure someone will upload. If I see it, I'll link here. He definitely does seem to admire her. They are such a cute "work husband" and "wife"  :icon_wink:

Ahh, Shamylove I like your picture.

Calling all Shamers...There is a poll on this board under "the show" heading about favorite couple.  Lenny is leading!!!  Vote if you want...weirdly Bernie/Howie were left off the poll.

Thanks!

I'll go vote. It came across as a bit of "are all Shamy shippers female and are Lenny fans more evenly balanced" to me and that's why Howie/Bernie were left off, but maybe that's just my perception. As far as I can tell, there are a lot of ladies here, so I don't think it's that much of a surprise.

I think that poll is just used to make some kind of sexist judgement on the makeup of the fandom after some people keep insisting that the show has been dumbed down for "teeny bopper girls".

eta: Oh Monique, I thought you were being sarcastic about being excited about the new episode since there wasn't one. LOL!

I could see why the Shamy relationship could appeal to more women (the slow build up of the relationship, etc) and why Lenny could appeal to more men (geeky guy gets hot girl, etc). Of course those are generalities and, perhaps, stereotypical. I'm sure there are Shamy-loving men out there just as there are female Lenny shippers. I enjoy all the characters. I hope Lenny gets married in the end. But, I only ship Shamy.

The point is moot because polls on online fandoms hardly are a reliable statistical sample of the audience.

In any case, yes, I do agree that Lenny appeals more to guys (besides the Kaley factor), but I have the suspicion, given what I keep reading in certain threads, that that poll wasn't coincidental. Not saying that it was opened with bad intentions but I'm sure it will be used as such. I cannot stand gender-related polls in general, they're based on the assumption that you can infer what kind of approaches and thought processes one has towards a certain topic based on gender alone, which is incredibly stereotypical and reductive, imo.

Yes it doesn't make sense, if he knows how blow job has to be done, if he knows about latin music orgy and I remember in that episode 07season 1 TDP when he's talking about Penny's friend Christy and Howard: " I imagine there aren't many kosher corn-huskers" If he knows such things during  being non-experienced person, from were he knows, we can only imagine, I think that he's doing it on purpose.

He's afraid to show them to Amy,   because he's affraid those feelings, for many reasons. He's doesn't want to admit that, this carnal part of his life attracts him, because he will have to admit that he's like Howard, Leonard and Raj.  He always said that sex is need of lower order . He would have to admit that he's wrong. But I think that Amy will help him to realize that she is more important for him than stupid pride.

It's like he knows some puns and some doesn't. He doesn't understand puns and innuendos when somebody else saying it.

To be honest I don't think he was dumbed down for this episode. The only thing he didn't get was the sex toy, but we know from 6x14 he doesn't get sex toys. And I think that's fairly consistent with his character: I think that he isn't completely naive and pure when it comes to sex (the pilot, the functional genitals and all that are all indications of that) but he definitely has a low sex drive, and I doubt he would know or care to know about female sexuality, especially to the extent of knowing what a sex toy is. But for the rest of the episode he does get or makes puns himself (when the girls come down to find him in the laundry room and when he finds Bernadette's diary, for example). The whole Kripke interaction would have been impossible if he didn't have some knowledge or thought about sex, it's just, again, highlighting that it's something new for him to consider for himself and so he tries to use slang etc and fails miserably (or like he did with Amy's mother back in the day). But even before this season there have been many many instances where he lets out more than one would expect of a "child-like" character (like we were discussing in the chat last week, how the hell does he know to put baby oil in a sex kit if he's so innocent?).

Just because he doesn't express sexuality the way the other characters do, does not mean there isn't stuff he keeps for himself. He's probably very private when it comes to that, although he has no problems discussing sex in clinical terms or when it's about other people.
