The Shamy Thread! (Season 6 Edition-Spoilers)

Good point. There was clearly apart of her then that was attempting to be more hip/trendy. That could have stemmed from her excitement of having a new bestie, etc...and being inspired by her new friends. Who knows? Maybe over time, she'll slowly change but in her own way as far as how she wants to dress? Or maybe she won't. Either way, Sheldon won't care. LOL.

ETA: ...or maybe in the waaaay future he WILL care or have interest? Hmmmm. LOL.

I'm sure it wasn't a big deal, lol. Just found it kind of ironic that a photo like this is following the recent avalanche of posts about Shamy growing apart, Sheldon being a jerk, etc. We've now seen a couple of promo photos from consecutive episodes (last week's and this one) in which Amy looks...unhappy? Peeved? I don't really think it means anything. Just an observation.

Yeah, well, you guys can all judge for yourselves when it airs (how it makes you feel).

Also, here is the "boob" scene from the episode coming up this week...LOL:

I can't look at this without thinking how uncomfortable that dress must be to wear... I'd be so paranoid of my boobs trying to play peek-a-boo! (And thank Neil for those straps... )

Seriously, are we still harping on Amy's clothes....again?

At this point, I just see it as "Amy". Don't change her clothes after 3 full seasons. I just see Amy, I rarely notice her clothes. I mean Kaley/Penny is dressed like a $5 hooker in the pic, but that just makes me love Amy and her uniqueness more.

I for one am not worried. I'm enjoying the ride. ;) This fandom and forum are a fun, lighthearted distraction and I intend to keep it that way. The episode sounds really funny, and I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Whether or not every line, look, and nuance of the epidode serves to further the ideal Shamy romance, I will have faith and stick to my mantra, "all's well that ends well." :D

I've said it before, (and probably someware else) they dress Howard and Amy in the ugliest clothes and give them the worst hair styles to make them look ugly.  Howard at first, I'm sure, to make his Romeo ambitions more laughable, and Amy to make her more like a female Sheldon. Though by now you'd think they'd change things up a little more.

No, but let her at least dress in fashion that looks her age.  The problem is that she dresses like a grandmother.  It is one thing to dress modestly and maybe even without a much taste, yet still have them be somewhat age appropriate.  But she dresses like a 80-year old woman in those dresses.  I think they could still give her the "Amy" look without going so extreme.   I mean her regular clothes are at least still something a younger person might wear even if frumpy.   But they are not age in appropriate.  I just don't like it when they put her in things that are so much older than her age bracket.  I don't care how frumpy a young girl is, she would never select something that her grandmother would wear.  She would at least attempt to keep something in her age grouping.   They could still find a dress that is modest and perhaps odd in style/color pattern, yet still more youthful is all.

Buy why?  For whose benefit should she be dressing differently?  The guys haven't really changed their clothing even with having girlfriends or having evolved or whatever.  Leonard still wears those goofy hoodies, Sheldon still wears superhero t-shirts and that @#$@# plaid jacket.

Whose "regular clothes" are you talking about?  Mayim's?

I don't think Amy's wearing anything that an 80-yr-old woman would wear.  And as erwinrommel pointed out, she has no qualms about wearing her grandmother's clothes.  Even with Penny's influence, she's not going to turn around and start shopping at "Forever 21"--that's just not her style.  I don't think it's about modesty with Amy, but about just being oblivious to what is appropriate or fashionable.  She obviously has some dresses that SHE considers dressier or nicer, but she doesn't have Penny or Bernie's sense of style or understanding.  Just like the guys don't either.

In the end, though, I don't think it's about making Amy conform to some generic sense of what is "stylish" or even being modest.  She isn't trying to be a carbon copy of Penny--even the yellow shoes she bought were inappropriate in that A) she couldn't walk in them and B ) they didn't seem to go with anything she owns.  She may have bought simply because she was caught up in the shopping trip with the other girls.  She didn't need those shoes, but she bought them presumably because the other girls bought fancy shoes.

Trying to say that she HAS to dress up in order to be attractive (and again, for whose benefit?) means that she's not good enough if she's not stylish.  That's like saying Sheldon won't be attracted to her unless she's "pretty"--that "frumpy" girls can't have boyfriends.

I don't even notice her clothes unless somebody starts talking about them.

Some on the spoilers thread are saying we're headed for a temporary Shamy break-up.  Thoughts?

Anything is possible. I do think that they've reached an interesting stage in their relationship, and I'm truly not sure where things are going from here. But my read from things is that the roommate episode kick started something in Sheldon where he's gone out of this "I'm scared she's going to leave me" to "I am starting to realize just how up to my neck I am in this relationship, and I feel the need to start treading water before I drown in it."

Is it a surpise to have gotten to this point? For Sheldon to come to a place where his denial mechanisms are failing and he's not going to go down without a fight?

That's not really *obvious* from anything that's going on, but it's something that I see in the subtext.

After all that, you didn't even notice you made a comment about Sheldon's @#&#%$  jacket....and Kiru...calling Penny a hooker because of HER dress? How is that any different than what you're against?

Let's face the facts, people: some of the clothes these characters have to wear are UGLY AS HELL. They dress that way because they're characters obviously. It's JUST a discussion. All for fun. I don't recall anyone saying Amy HAS to dress up in order to be attractive. In fact, I can think all I want about how ugly someone's outfit is on the show but most of the time, I'm not even paying attention to their clothes as I'm so used to seeing them in them. Amy proves that she can wear the ugliest outfit on Earth and her beauty STILL shines through. THAT'S how I see her.

I don't think we should be so harsh on people for making comments about CLOTHING of all things. They're just opinions.

I don't want her to be a carbon copy of anyone, Penny especially.  I just want her to be able to look like her clothes fit her for once.   And by the way, Sheldon has learned to dress nicer at times.  He has changed his style of dressing for her.  He wears his gray suit a lot for her because she likes gray and it is much nicer than his plaid suits.   So they have shown him willing to look good for her.   Amy has bought shoes, tried on makeup and other things to try and look good, so why not just take it a slight step further and have her clothes fit her for once.

I am not advocating a huge change or even that she deviates from "frumpy" that much, but at least let her clothes fit her, especially when dressing for special occasions.   Not showing off too much, still can be long sleeves, etc. but not fit her like a sack of potatoes.   She obviously thinks she is trying to look nicer and they are trying to have her attempt to look better, so why not let it at least fit?

Madame the following is my opinion...

I believe if Shamy breaks up, it will be forever. They aren't that sort of couple that can go off and on and still keep the audience loving them. So I don't think they will go quite there. I think they are just trying to create some level of drama for Shamy, and maybe not in the best way but that's what I feel they are doing. They want to not let fans get too comfortable with the idea of them being together in the end, and they want to leave mystery there I believe of will they or won't they? I believe they will keep Shamy together until the end and reward us for this later down the line for waiting. Right now is just the Shamy angst period.

The paradox has to end...so either the immovable force remains unmoved or the irresistible force wins. I think/hope the latter is true. Hence the tension/angst subtext throughout.

Fascinating.

I don't see a break-up at all. Molaro said the season finale will be intimate. We shall see.

A little Shamy angst might end up being just what the doctor ordered -- a catalyst for better things to come. I enjoy angsty Shamy fanfiction from time to time, so I should be able to handle these speed bumps on the show itself. Sometimes it's difficult, because we can't see the forest through the trees, but I can't think of a plausible scenario that won't -- after some patient waiting on our part -- make us all happy in the end. I permanent breakup won't happen, IMO, unless Mayim decides to move on from the show. Edited by Retroluv

I don't think they will be breaking up Shamy at all, but I do think that people are misinterpreting what Steve was talking about.  When they talked about the finale, it was said that it will not be a big event or production like in Season 5.  It will be smaller and more intimate.  He was really talking about it not being a big hullabaloo, not that there was going to be intimate activities between the couples.  I am not expecting much in the area of "intimacy" with Shamy at all in the finale. I think the finale is going to be a lauching point for next season more than anything about wrapping up this season.  Just a best guess given how little time they have to change the tone of the latter part of this season (which has not been the same tone as the first part up through 6.16).

there is a pic of jim from the event where he was dressed in costume

http://ow.ly/i/1J9Z0/original

Lol it's Jim in drag!!! I think he's such a cutie, but based on this photo, I don't know that he would win any beauty contests as a woman/drag queen. Good for him, though! Given how reserved and shy he generally seems to be, this must have taken some courage.

Agreed. He would win a lot!

ETA...whoops,  I misread. LOL. I thought you said he COULD win. LOL...well, I still think he could. Depends on who does his make up and all that jazz. LOL.
