I don't think either of them needs to be a throw-away line. Like I said, Sheldon has been acting very differently with Amy than he has been acting about her when talking to other people, especially Penny, all season long. He is definitely "hiding" stuff from her. So, imo, that's just a way for him to cover-it up in front of her. But if one of them is, it is it's definitely the latest one. The whole episode of 6x14 was BASED on "It's a possibility", the reaction from Penny was designed to emphasized that line and all the promos were about it. You don't center an episode around a throwaway line.

@keie: That would be one hell of a plot-twist. It wouldn't even need to be a stranger, it could be Beverly. Which could explain why Leonard was so unfazed  to "It's a possibility". Maybe he knows? LOL. I think it might be far-fetched, but that would be a funny twist.

Re: Sheldon becoming more sexually aware, though, I think that's just him going through delayed adolescence. He's been around his friends, Howard especially, long enough to be constantly exposed to sex puns and he is probably also doing some "research", he's not dumb, he can put 2+2 together when he starts having some interest in the subject. He's starting to connect the dots just like an adolescent would.

We know he keeps in touch with Beverly, more closely even than Leonard does.  I agree it's far-fetched to think he has been doing therapy but I can't imagine him agreeing to it with anyone but Beverly.  Anyone else would just be a hippie-dippie to him.

I've been thinking about something....I have a theory. (Bear in mind I may be COMPLETELY off in my theory but I think it might have some merit).

Re-watching season 6 a couple of things have stood out to me.

1. Amy becoming jealous of Alex, even though Penny laughs the situation off, (only to have it be a feint and have it turned around and have it be Penny the one that should be worried) Why, have Amy think that at all? It could have just been to simply get Penny to Caltech where she could witness Alex's flirting first hand but I think it might come into play later.

2. Howard and Raj discovering that Sheldon  has in the last few months started locking himself away for 20 minutes a day to be by himself, (culminating with Sheldon's speech). Why, did Sheldon start doing this? What made him decide to start taking a block of time during the day to try and recharge his batteries so to speak?

3. Sheldon has become A LOT more sexually aware this season. Take the chicken pecking moment for instance. When he and Amy were tring to convince the gang they had sex and we're talking to each other he didn't understand why the 'blow by blow' would be a pun....now he understands the meaning of that sexual act? Where is learning some of these things from?

4. In the last episode Amy mentions him blowing off date night and giving ridiculous excuses. To which he responds "When you say things like that people think you're crazy", which makes zero sense because he obviously gave her the q-tip excuse at some point. To me it just came off as a deflection to get her off that part of the subject. Why is blowing the dates off? What is he doing?

Now, again....I may be so far off it's not even funny, lol, but could it be possible that Sheldon is seeing a therapist about his intimacy issues? It would explain.the locking himself away maybe it's an exercise his therapist suggested. It would explain him having a better understanding of sex in general if he's talking to someone about it. It might also explain where he might be going and why he's giving such ridiculous excuses to Amy for his absence. It would explain his "I'm working on it", comment to Penny and Leonard.

As for the first thing I mentioned (Amy's short lived jealousy of Alex) wouldn't it be classic sitcom style to have either Amy or one of the gang see Sheldon with a woman and over hear snippets of conversation ('Why haven't you told Amy about our relationship yet? Will you be able to make it to see me Thursday night? ") making it SEEM like Sheldon is cheating on Amy only to have it be revealed that it's something else entirely LIKE she's really just Sheldon's shrink?

So yeah, that's my theory.....or I just wrote a very short fanfiction, lol.

While this is a fascinating theory, I don't think the writers would go there.   First, that would be allowing Sheldon to admit he needed to see a therapist.   Sheldon would NEVER admit that.  He thinks he is too intelligent and above all that and "his mother had him tested, he is not crazy".   So I sincerely doubt they would go there...unless with Beverly, but even then, I don't see him going to her about his relationship with Amy.   I doubt he would feel comfortable doing so.

I am not sure we will see anymore of Alex or not.  I read a press release she was cast in a new show so she may not be available to be on TBBT any more.

I think it would make an interesting fanfic.

Ii could totally be Beverly, He trusts her professionally. Amy's never met Bev so if she over-heard them Skyping she wouldn't know who he was talking to.

You're probably right about him becoming more aware sexually through research. That does seem like something he would do.

Would he really never admit to it though? To me, what he said to Penny and Leonard, IS admitting that he has a big problem. He said it himself. And we were all pretty shocked at the level of maturity he had then and later when he told L/P that Amy moving in marked a level of intimacy they weren't ready for.

I agree that the theory is very far-fetched because that would require a lot of a-priori planning from the writers, but given what we saw in that scene, I don't think it would be entirely OOC.

btw, I had a dream about a Shamy breakup last night, it was heartbreaking.  :icon_cry:

Amy was clearly ready to move in...so really it was he who was not ready for it.....even thought he said their relationship has not reached that level...so it was all about him......

I can get that Sheldon  has come to know about sex through research...but can one tell me how can he suddenly make "mommy jokes" .... surely they won't be present in any books...and IMO understand sexual puns is completely different from knowledge on sex ....

And its good to be back here.... :)

He understands puns and has made many puns over the years, so for him to make sexual puns would only require a little bit of sexual knowledge.  Everybody, and I mean everybody, in the U.S. has heard "yo' mama" jokes.  Sexual humor is new for him this season but it has been consistent throughout the season.  He's probably getting it from a combination of the famous book they gave him, listening to Howard's dirty jokes, asking questions of Penny, hearing L/P having sex, and his own developing interest in the subject.

I believe this was previously explained.

I don't want to speculate, but personally I got the sense that Molaro was more of a lenny advocate. I have felt that since paley....

Yes...I got the sense that Molaro is much more of a Lenny advocate than Shamy as well.  But, I do believe that he knows that Shamy has hit gold and realizes he can't mess them up too much because he would have both Bill and Chuck down his throats.  They all know that Shamy are golden for the show and that they are end-game for the show.   So whatever he has been doing this latter half of the season, I am hoping will come to light in the next two tapings.

I agree that he has made puns(bazinga's) ...but I cannot agree that he understands puns...come on that is the point of his character right...he takes everything literally...

And I don't think we can compare Sheldon with anyone....because then surely he must know about the racial things too.,..

Sexual humor is consistent with him  but him understanding it or not is not consistent..... he did not get the battery operated chew toy....he did not understand whether Penny did it yet.....he never saw spanking as sexual thing......

@Keie, I like your theory. I dont know if it is farfetched that Sheldon would seek outside help. Most people seem to think that its easier to discuss problems with a therapist than with your close friends. It would be nice if shamy's current issues wrapped up that neatly.

Reading a comment on why Amy was jealous of Alex had me thinking...

Amy was jealous of Alex because she thought anyone would fall for him.....now in the latest episode she says that she doubts whether Sheldon can even make any new friends....this probably she learnt when no one accepted her thought that Sheldon quirks are good in closet...

Amy is a really good learner...

Sheldon's view on coitus has changed though, he used to say it was messy and unsanitary but now he finds the concept of it ridiculous and off putting, now that could be a ruse to keep Amy from knowing his true feelings until he is ready to do more than cuddle and hold hands, I do wonder if Amy will find out about it but if she did I think she would supportive of it considering how 4 year plan and he didn't freak out when she mentioned marriage and a family

Bazingas are practical jokes, not puns.

Like I said, Sheldon is going through delayed adolescence. He's learning to make sex puns the way people normally do earlier in life. Just because he generally takes things literally doesn't mean he ALWAYS does or that he cannot learn. He's made puns in the past. He used to get sexual references when HE used to be the one making them, he just used to struggle when other people used to make them and they were convoluted.

Regarding him being inconsistent about it, again, he is LEARNING. He hasn't got it down to a T yet. Whilst he might understand sex from a male perspective, he wouldn't necessarily have the knowledge about female sexuality to know what a sex toy is. Using sexuality to flirt isn't a pun and isn't straightforward.

Again, it's not black and white. He is not going to go from being naive to suddenly knowing everything there is to know and understand everything there is to understand. He might probably never get ALL of it. But he is learning the same way adolescents normally learn.

I was pleasantly surprised that Sheldon didn't react negatively to the suggestion that he might one day be married, have a family, etc. I think it was meaningful that his response was neutral. This scene could easily have been an opportunity for the writers to humiliate Amy with another Sheldon 2.0 zinger.

That was actually one of the lines I was most worried about from the taping report. I was already bracing myself for humiliation and I was so relieved it didn't come. Nonetheless, it seemed like all the Shamy scene were set up explicitly to have Sheldon deliver zinger after zinger. It has taken me at least 3 viewings to start noticing other and nicer things because I was so distracted by the negativity.

Classic Sheldon response would have been "Why on earth would I want to do that"   :p

Actually, Amy never once mentionned the fact that she should move in as his girlfriend. To her, it was all about being the ideal roommate. Sheldon was the one seeing it as a romantic progression, but to Amy, it was only ever about being an easy replacement for Leonard. She wanted to see if her water bed would fit in Leonard's room, she was not trying to ease her way into Sheldon's.

Because that's true. She knows she couldn't be the best roommate nor the best friend ever as this is Leonard's place, but she's the best girlfriend he'll ever want get.

And yet the first thing she says when Sheldon says she cannot move is ... about her being the best girlfriend he could ever get....

Actually, that's the last thing she says. The first thing she says is about the message, then about doing everything the way he likes it, and only then she has the outburst about being so patient with him all these years, putting up with all his crap and, finally, being the best girlfriend. Obviously, in order to make a case for her moving in, Amy would bring up all the things that make her so amazing, including being the best girlfriend he's ever going to have. But I think her approach was very different from Sheldon's. While Sheldon realized that living with a girlfriend is different from living with a roommate, she thought it would be pretty much the same thing. I do not think intimacy even remotely crossed her mind, otherwise they wouldn't have had her plan to move into Leonard's room. She didn't want to move into his room because Sheldon turned her down from sharing a bedroom, she decided very excitedly on her own. I think that was purposefully inserted to make the point that she was not expecting them to live together the way a normal couple would.

Did she see moving in together as progress in their relationship? Of course. But  I think it was one example of the ways Amy can sometimes be more immature than Sheldon about things. She idealizes things a lot, what with her ideas of romance and what not, because she is, for all intents and purposes, a teenage girl when it comes to relationships. Just because she thought she was ready to move in, it doesn't mean she actually was. I actually think if Sheldon had talked to her instead of chickening out and blaming it on Penny, she would have realized it was too soon. But the show unfortunately doesn't like to do resolutions that move the characters forward, except on very rare occasions.

Sheldon and sex is like Sheldon and driving. After so many years passing without doing it he has evolved past it. He is at the moment He is above sex and doesn't consider it a necessity. Here's hoping for a change

You can also think of her saying it as a roommate option so it possible would'nt be so ominous to Sheldon as she herself said he was a flight risk....because it was clear when he started telling her she could not move in...she goes to the best girlfriend for 2 years...doing crap things.....etc etc

I don't see her having any other motive than accelerating their relationship when thinking of moving in together...and Amy has always been shown as the one who wants to move their relationship forward...

And as far as I am concerned if Sheldon were ready to have sex or do anything that accelerated their relationship at this time......Amy would be clearly ready to take the leap and not at all freak-out....she is clearly ready for a full-blown relationship.......and I don't think the show has implied otherwise anywhere that she will freak-out or she is not ready  after they became bf-gf

vasu, I agree the show has not been overt about showing any instance where Amy would not take the leap, but Amy is just as inexperienced as Sheldon.  They have made that fairly evident.   The writers have mentioned several times during fan events and interviews that both Sheldon and Amy are like  a middle-school adolescent in that both have child-like views on relationships and sex.   I truly believe that the writers are going to pull out some of Amy's "child-like" view about it all when the tables are turned a bit.   Once Sheldon finally decides to take the leap and moves forward and perhaps gets a bit more aggressive in allowing his testosterone to take over (just like a teen boy would), she might start pulling back.  That is where we are going to get glimpses of her not being ready.   I think right now, she is safe in thinking about such matters.   She romanticizes them, sees her friends having healthy sex lives and she knows that Sheldon is the only man she wants.   But she also does not have a boyfriend touching her yet, or getting intimate with her in any way.  He hasn't even kissed her in a deep fashion.  So she doesn't understand yet that once he does start becoming intimate with her, what that might mean to her personally.   It is all fantasy in her head at the moment.   But once the touching starts, that could change.  The reality of the situation will kick in and she may begin to panic.   So I think we will see her start to "freak out" slightly when Sheldon finally abandons fear to the winds and allows hormones to take over.   She may slow him down.

I also believe that the writers will use this as another way to slow their relationship from moving forward too fast.  It helps buy them more time before they actually have them consummate their relationship.
