tmp Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Tom Lehrer would be perfect for the role of professor emeritus of mathematics at the university. I've been a Lehrer fangirl since discovering That Was The Year That Was as a teenager. "The Vatican Rag" was my introduction to Catholicism. Years later, when I hosted a weekly public radio show, Lehrer was a programming staple. "Lobachevsky" is one of my all-time favorite songs; "Ingrid Bergman playing part of hypotenuse" put me on the air room floor laughing the first time I heard it. I thought I'd be cute a few months ago at a restaurant to put our names on the list as Lobachevsky because of the song/mathematician. My crazy husband liked this and spoke with a bad Russian accent throughout the entire meal to everybody there. It was hilarious. Tensor Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 I love Tom Lehrer. First heard the song about Lobachevsky (required listening for any math major) years ago, and I also like "New Math" and "Masochism Tango" is hilarious.I did "New Math" as an audition piece. Audition pieces had to be in stage musicals. And it was in the show "Tom Foolery", which was produced in London by Cameron Mackintosh better known for musicals such as "Cats", Les Misérables, Phantom of the Opera, Miss Saigon, among others and worked with Disney to turn "Mary Poppins" into a musical. goldenorb Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Maybe this will interest you. Thank you so much for linking that, eirwinrommel. That was from his Copenhagen concert in '67. BTW, I can totally hear Sheldon singing "When You are Old and Gray".

koops Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 We didn't get any Amy development or Amy-centered eps this season at all, so it would be very nice if we got some insight into her family life next season. Could make for some interesting stories. And, of course, I'm sure they're planning on bringing the mothers back next season since they couldn't do it this year. Guest DroneInTheSun Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 (edited) I want Amy's mother to be overprotective and overcaring and meddling but still very fond of her daughter. She's a witch to her daughter in literally 85% of the fics I've read where she appears but I don't like this version of the character tbh. koops Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Agree, I always got the impression her mother was overprotective of her and sheltered A LOT. Which is also another thing that lead me to believe that she might be an only child (beside the constant mentions of cousins and no siblings). Going back to THE taping report, I was just thinking... one thing that stands out to me, apart from the obvious (lol), is that Amy's reaction to Sheldon's confession is rather... underwhelming? It says that you can tell she's still sad, although seems to feel better, after he says that he wouldn't rule it out, which is definitely not the reaction I expected from Amy when she found out. We were all saying that maybe one of the reasons Sheldon didn't want her to know was that she would jump the gun. Maybe I didn't expect her to jump the gun as much as other people, but I did expect her to be shocked and overwhelmed by the revelation. Instead, it seems as if she almost doesn't believe it? I'd love to have Monique or Kelle's opinion on this, since they saw the scene. One thing that I think this is good for is that, possibly, now that Sheldon has taken this off his chest and she didn't jump him, he might be less pressured and more relaxed to take his own baby steps (and he already kind of does right away with the RP sex, which is pretty huge for him), but I wonder whether there's going to be a discouraged Amy in the future, or whether her underwhelming reaction changed once he initiated the role play again and she realized that he wasn't saying "I wouldn't rule it out" just to make her feel better, but that he *actually* meant it. silverangel Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 (edited) jeanalice I want to say that really I love to stare and gaze at your sig. It gives me warm feelings every time I look at it.. Yes Amy's mother could be sweet and warm person, and I would like to see the ep. where the main topic would be associated with Amy and indeed it would be nice to see something related to her family. I wonder how her mother would react to Sheldon after this conversation by skype when Amy introduced him to her. Guest DroneInTheSun Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 That lack of reaction bothered me too, actually. I was like, "Amy, you've been waiting for this for ages, why aren't you broadly smiling". And then I realised maybe she simply didn't believe him because she has been waiting for this for ages and maybe she just kind of lost hope. The fact that she very clearly asks him if they'll ever have a physical relationship (because as much as she hints at her needs, she never flat out asked him) reeks of despair and "I've got nothing to lose, let's just ask him." And then he says that he "wouldn't rule it out", not "I'm working on getting there", so she either thinks "he's saying that to make me feel better" or "okay, he wouldn't rule it out, but I'll probably have to wait at least another fifteen years." But I think that as soon as he says "let's go on with the RP", she probably realises he is serious, hence the gasp when his character kisses hers back. And when Penny and Leonard interrupts them later, she obviously seems elated and she knows that yes, he is working on it.
koops Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 To me the line that really says it all isn't "I wouldn't rule it out" as much as "Before you I was never interested in becoming intimate with anyone". I mean, come on Amy, do 1+1, you know Why would someone say something like that if things hadn't changed since "Before you"? It's also a big confirmation that he isn't just doing it for her, like one might have inferred from 6x14, but that he is working on it because he is interested. Guest DroneInTheSun Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 He's clearly got the hots for her. I wonder when he realised it. Was it the Star Trek roleplay? Or even before that?
silverangel Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 (edited) I think that her reaction was like that, because like you said she waited so long for him to take his step, to said something like that and then suddenly when he said that he wouldn't rule it out she must have to see it to believe that he said it serious, when he wanted to finish game and when they play sexy DnD. She just hear so many different things from him and sometimes not nice, and even given that she undrestand what he meant, she thought that he say it because he wants to cheer her up and make her feel better, make her happy. She was just to overwhelming by whole this situation, and that she dissapointed Penny and Bernadette in Vegas that she was so sad, and when he said that he wants to finish game and then when their characters in game started to kiss and ... then this famous 14 came, she believed him then, and then she knew that he wants it to. rachelshamyfan Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 (edited) I think we will have to see it before we can talk about her reaction, just my opinion! koops Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 He's clearly got the hots for her. I wonder when he realised it. Was it the Star Trek roleplay? Or even before that? I think he probably started having some sort of sensual feelings for her before then, but didn't quite know how to label them or wasn't even aware of them. He called her a "hotsy-totsy" in 5x19 and the way he described the "pale, slightly hunched shoulders" (meaning, naked, on a woman who wears 83 layers on a daily basis) means he was going in that direction but likely wasn't aware of it. I do think the dots started to connect with the ST roleplay and it was a progress all season long this year, from snapping at Leonard in 6x02, to the chicken pecking comments, to all the stuff he suggested in 6x10, to 6x14 to the "yo momma" jokes to this one. The language from 6x14 to this one has changed dramatically, he knows how to use proper sensual language now: no squishing and mushing of bathing suit areas, but erotically caressing and nibbling. It is fascinating to see the change from late S5 to now.
Guest DroneInTheSun Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Now that I think of it, he's known she could be a sensual interest for other men since at least early S5, when he believes Leonard and Amy had sex. It's in that same episode that he also clearly expresses an interest in her for the first time. He thinks she slept with Leonard, and his reaction is that she's not for Leonard but for himself, probably meaning he could see himself having sex with Amy later. This is only reinforced when Amy goes out with Stuart and he's afraid that they'll be having intercourse... Wow, he's wanted her bad for a long time. He'll never be able to stop touching her once they start having coitus (not complaining )

koops Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 (edited) I feel like this gifset JA posted applies equally well to any of the following: 1) Shamy shippers the day the episode airs. 2) Shipper!Jim the moment he read the script at the table read. 3) Amy's neurons the moment Sheldon told her he was going to take her armor off. 4) The chat the day Ar becomes a Shamy.
