Are Sheldon Cooper and Amy Farrah Fowler ever going to get past second base on "The Big Bang Theory"? Not if Mayim Bialik, who plays the nerdy neurobiologist on the CBS hit, has any say.
"I kind of like us the way we are," she told TODAY.com.
"Sheldon made a comment that he could picture the two of them having coitus (and) honestly, I was surprised that the producers were ready to have his character say that," shared the former "Blossom" star.
"I think it's really sweet that we depict an as-yet nonsexual romantic intimate relationship that is very sweet. But anything can happen on our show."

Source.

MAYIM. STOP THIS.

LOL but see, that's the thing about interviews being reported on paper. Nowhere in that interview does she say she's against the relationship moving forward. She's simply saying that she likes the slow development, that it's an AS-YET nonsexual relationship and that she was suprised (like EVERYONE) that the writers were ready to have Sheldon say what he said. Yet the press take this to mean "Not if Mayim Bialik has any say in this". They really struggle with the concept of slow progress, either characters jump in the sack right away or it's nothing.

Yes I agree..  It was a writer's mus-interpretation and sloppy journalism that came up with "Not if Mayim Bialik has any say in this"...Mayim didn't say that.   Mayim is very protective of what she says.  She knows that she is going to be blasted no matter what she says and this is another example.  They make it out like she is prudish and refuses to do a love story when that is definitely not the case.   She is just being cautious and stating that she is supporting the direction the writers have taken on the show, which is a very slow and so far non-sexual relationship and that she too can be surprised at where they take their characters.  I think there is nothing wrong with that, nor does it mean she is putting her foot down and tossing out her voice on their storyline.  She is very professional about her job and she would never interfere with the writing.   If they asked Jim and Mayim opinions about something, I am sure both would willingly give their opinions, but I doubt they get asked and if so, it likely is very rarely.   To be honest...if left up to opinions, they may give Jim more weight anyway with him being the lead on the show.

Bottom line, I hate the way PR people release information.  Just like some of the press that implied  Johnny may be leaving BBT because they are writing his character out.  No where did it say that.  CBS simply put a teaser out there that Leonard gets an overseas offer.  But it doesn't state whether he takes the job, etc.   Yet I saw a posted article where someone predicted Johnny wanted to move on to bigger projects and would be leaving and this was BBTs way of writing him out.  How stupid is that?   It was all pure speculation and not even based on anything truthful.

That is why I am glad we get taping reports.  Those are more accurate than anything in the press.

ETA:  On a separate note, I am going to wait and see about the reaction Amy had to Sheldon's admission until it airs.  I want to see what I think about her reaction.  It could be that she was overwhelmed with his admission and not really that she was sad.   Sometimes when overwhelmed, we can look sad or tear up as if we are about to cry...but it really is that we are so emotional and awed by something said that we become rather "speechless".   By the fact she make the follow-on comment about "talk dirty"...well I think she wasn't disappointed or sad, but more overwhelmed and then could only utter those words as a reaction to lighten up the heavy emotion she was feeling.   If she were truly thrilled with this admission, she may have been so emotional and stunned at the same time that it left her breathless and speechless.   She then tries to lighten up the situation with her comment and is even more surprised that he wants to continue the game, right there...in his bedroom of all places.   This had to be like a roller coaster ride for her.   Remember, earlier she was very, very upset.  She had been traumatized at the airport, endured humiliation with the pat-down by TSA, got in trouble with airport security for her reaction, and ended up on the no-fly list.  She managed to annoy her gal pals and ruin their fun time.   Then she goes over to Sheldon's apartment only to have her humiliating story unfold in front of her boyfriend and his male friends/colleagues.   She runs off to Sheldon's room when she feels pressured and embarrassed that everyone knows that she has no sex life.  It had been a horrible night for her.   So her emotions had to be completely off balance when he made his admission.  It had to overwhelm her.

That's a really nice analysis Stardust. I'm not too fussed about the reaction or lack thereof, I think there are very good explanations as to why she might not have reacted too much as well as why she might have reacted more subtly. I'm just curious to see what it is exactly, because it's hard to tell from the report. The bottom line is, it seems whatever her reaction was, it was a very good thing for Sheldon to allow him to open up that much and it ended up being a very good thing for both of them.

You're insights are just like you were reading my thoughts. I agree in 100% with you.

I admire Maym for the fact that  she is pretty darn clever and brilliant, gentle and affectionate, devoted friend of Jim's and  she is capable of at the right time and place and in the right way to make it clear what she really thinks about Amy and Sheldon, their entry into the realm of sexuality and bodily lust. She is just so incredibly smart, she knows when and how to say it, and no one will break her. But it is terribly frustrating and sad that every step she needs to be careful, because when she could  spread the her opinion that she wants it, and that Sheldon and Amy finally crossed the gates of sexual pleasure sensations, etc., and taking into account her divorce and how her and  Jim's friendship is unique,   journalist  hyenas could write it in a wrong way.

Jim and Mayim are unique because in incredibly sophisticated, almost bordering on love way can talk about each other. I got the impression that she enjoys it and she draws from it the energy that Jim is so enthusiastic to the kisses and entry Shamy into physical relationship.

Something I noticed about the tape report,,,,

The whole Zachary Quinto thing is brought up at the beginning, "Zachary Quinto was a one time, strange, revolutionary, amazing thing so DON'T USE THAT AGAINST ME,". It's interesting that it's phrased this way.....considering what happens later. Shamy's feeling's are used to further the game and at least in Amy's opinion (it seems), are used against them to embarrass them.

Amy is Sheldon's 'one time, strange, revolutionary amazing thing' as far as his love life goes...and he's her's :)

IDEC I love this and am standing by it.

When I say embarrass, I don't think the gang is intentionally setting out to HURT them. I don't think they realize how it will effect Sheldon and Amy in a hurtful way.

And....Zachary Quinto, being the new Spock was the Spock that fell in love and had a love relationship.  So it is fascinating that he compares himself to this Spock instead of Leonard Nemoy's version.   ;)

Harry Potter. When he was Snape and fabulously hair-flipping. I got this day-by-day calendar given to me by a friend and i was writing "JA loves Snape" at the back of his photos when I was in my 5th grade.

And then Galaxy Quest, Truly, Madly, Deeply, Love actually, Dogma, Sense and Sensibility (Col. Brandon...*swoon*)..

5th grade... ok  ... lol (clutches walking stick)

I like your list

and umm  Go Shamy ... rah

cheers
