The Shamy Thread! (Season 6 Edition-Spoilers)

Recommended Posts

You know, I remember someone from the other thread saying something similar but my scenario is that what if the last scenario for the very last episode of the series is all of them moving out, all of them living on different apartments (maybe with their SOs) and then Sheldon and Leonard goes out of the door, saying goodbye to the apartment and then walking down the stares. Like the opposite of the very first scene in the Pilot Episode.

I've mentioned that idea before--that the last scene is the boys leaving the empty apartment.

But it's so sad...

Oh this is sad :( because it remainds me that someday maybe we will see something like that, and your scenario that they will do it in last ep. in the last season is touching and sad but I l  like it.

That's why my ideal scenario is Leonard moving out and Amy moving in. It's still the end of an era, so it'll be bittersweet, but it's not as drastic as leaving Los Robles behind altogether. I like it that even though the gang might move on to new things they'd still have that same old place as a gathering spot. They could be emptying Penny's apartment in the last episode, as a throw-back to the pilot with her moving in. Or, if they change up the living arrangements before the end of the show, they could have L/P moving out of 4B into a house together, especially if Penny's pregnant, and still have the empty 4B thing going on.

Most of the times shows can get renewed in multi year deals and I'm sure that TBBT will get 8 and 9 but I honestly hope that is all they take it to.  I really dont want them to overstay their welcome like HIMYM, Friends, That '70 and Roseanne did.  I want this show to go out with the audience wanting more.  That way a reunion is more possible.

I agree with you. It is better that they will end it, when the audience is in love with that show and like Howard said; always leave them wanting more...than  if they would end like Roseanne, when people started to get bored and ratings would fall, it would be heartbroken for me. I hope that we will see 8 and 9 season.

I like the idea of them leaving their old apartments in last ep. in last season, for goodbye, but I think I preffer something more joyful, because it would be too sad for me, because all memories and all great, wonderful things is associated with 4a. Maybe like you said koops. Something like; Penny's pregnant and she and Leonard leaving  4b and move out to their own house, and Sheldon and Amy are living together in 4a.  4b is empty like a symbol that something is ending. Something new is coming, something happy for all.

I would like to see Sheldon and Amy living in 4a. I think that Sheldon would have moved sooner to Amy than would lived in 4b alone.  I don't see Sheldon living in 4b, alone  after all his malignancies and sarcasm about her lack of order and cleanliness in 4b, and he doesn't want to be alone, always from the beggining he lived with roommate, so I preffer that Amy would move in to Sheldon, but  maybe not so fast, with small steps. While Leonard is gone with this research expedition, it's clear that Sheldon will need Amy to be with him, comfort him, take care of him, but not as mother and child, but as a woman and her man who is sad and alone, and even if he wouldn't admit that, he will be missing Leonard.

And this is opportunity for him to realize how much he loves her, how precious she is for him, how lucky he is that he has her, because this Leonard's expedition  and Sheldon living alone in 4a would be something new for him, something what will lift him from his safe place, little like  the writers would open up pandora's box for him, and that's why this could mean more intimate moments for them, and this could bring them closer to each other.

But like everybody said maybe we will be surprised. I want to give to the writers a credit of trust  that they will come up with something that will be good for the character and bring balance in all interactions in between characters. I hope!

I love this idea even though it is really sad!!!

The audience will know that it's time for our boys to grow up and fly away and the sadly touching ending will make them remember the show for good.

I don't like the idea of Sheldon giving up his apartment. Leonard can move in with Penny or they find another apt/house. The group no longer spends as much time at 4a as before. They could still gather there or L/P's new place like when they came together for Bernie's dinner or L/P party. I would love to see Amy living ar Sheldon's, sleeping in Leonards' s room so the two of them can get use to each other.

It would be nice to change up the " central" gathering place so that the end of the series scene doesn't have to tie into apt 4a. That is to similar to the ending of friends.

Didn't Friends do the whole "last shot of the series is the door of the flat" thing already? Not that it'd be wrong to have it in TBBT, as going back to the place where everything started for the ending of a series is a pretty common pattern (for example, everyone ends up on Platform 9 3/4 in the epilogue of Harry Potter), but I think I'm remembering something like that but am not 100% sure.

It sure would be a good idea though, and maybe we could even have both the Shenny and the Lenny moving out of Los Robles together. Cue intense and gross sobbing all over the world.

When the show returns for season 7, and the writers are not ready for Sheldon to move forward in his growth, where he is less dependent on his friends, I don't see L/P moving forward in their relationship. It will be S/A working on their relationship, L/P living apart and doing what? Being bored?

@ Lost Yes, Friends ended where everyone was leaving off from the apartment. A lot of series do "end" where they began. Buffy ended at the school, and like you mentioned HP on the platform. However, the problem with tbbt ending is that its been done before almost exact. I hope the writers can create something else for the ending.

BTW you meant Shamy instead of "Shenny" right? Lol

Well this isn't awkward or anything.  :icon_mrgreen:

I don't know, the Lenny has been moving forward a lot this season (since Penny's ILY actually). They now both know where they stand in their relationship, and for what feels like the first time, they actually agree on the path they want to walk together. Sending them back to square one where they don't communicate and nothing moves would definitely be inconsistent to me. As for S/A, as much as I'd love to say I'm 100% sure they'll be moving forward, the thing is, I'm not 100% sure. It's the only logical thing after 6x23 and the role-played sex, because this is too big of an event for even Sheldon to say "hey let's reboot our relationship to the last point we both agree it worked", but then again, this is Sheldon we're talking about.

@Lost. I agree with you. Lenny is in a good place. Hopefully both couples can move forward, that is if the writers don't pretend 6.23 didn't happen. The back and forth of Sheldon this season makes it hard for me to imagine what stage they are in for Amy and Sheldon's relationship.

A lot of shows end where they began because it is the essence of storytelling and the classic form achieving closure.

Some time ago I posted about the sonata-allegro form in music that parallels the classic storytelling form--Exposition-Development-Recapitulation/Coda.

We've had the Exposition (the Pilot and early episodes), and we're in the midst of the Development. When we finally get to the final season, we'll eventually have the recap where all the stories come full circle.

Since we opened with Penny moving in and the guys as nerdy bachelors in their apartment, and we met their nerdy can't-get-a-girl friends, then it makes sense that in the end the guys are still scientists, Penny can still be an aspiring actress, but they've all found some degree of success in their personal lives, in their professional lives, and since we started with the two apartments, it could make sense to end with leaving the two apartments.

And the Coda would be whatever funny tag they decide to use...

I'm sorry. I feel like most of my ideas are coming from Friends (like the Baby Scare that Gothic has reminded as a plot twist in Friends and now that suggestion) but I assure you I have never watched it. I've seen a handful of episodes, but not all of it or not an entire season.

I think I've read before that even Shakespeare's idea for one of his plays were already written centuries ago. But, as that is not the case, since it has been done by a tv classic we can scrap the idea. :p

Nograv made a point elsewhere that it seems like the end of this season was starting to put old character stereotypes to bed: Sheldon's non-sexuality, Raj's mutism, Leonard's insecurity and Penny's commitment. This might be a pattern to set up new stuff for the characters, not only for next season, but for the next renewal. All 4 of these things were stereotypes that have been beaten to death for 6 years and were starting to get very old. I'd be very surprised if come next season we're all back at square one.

I actually do not think Sheldon was back and forth all season, he was back and forth in those three episodes (19, 20 and partly 21) that were pretty worrying in that regard, but 6x23 was a pretty massive leap forward and that's the last image the writers wanted to leave of Shamy. I mentioned before that maybe one of the reasons why they decided to change the V-day ending might have to do with having to start writing a new type of Shamy, especially a new type of Sheldon, right in the middle of a season. I would imagine re-envisioning Sheldon to have more overt physicality or sexual behavior is quite a big task to tackle in the middle of a season. And maybe that's why there was absolutely no Shamy interaction after 6x23, because they haven't really thought about how to write it yet. But while they can get away with one episode with no Shamy interaction, they can't get away with half a season of no Shamy interaction, so if 6x23 had happened earlier it would have been a tough one. But by changing course halfway through the season they also lost momentum with Shamy and therefore we had those 3 WTF episodes where it's not really sure what they were doing with Sheldon.

This is actually a very good point. So far the only characters who had completed or were well into their transformation were Amy and Howard - Amy came out of her robotic shelf to finally start growing (and she's still very much learning, in a teenage girl kind of state, so my guess is Amy's going to change some more before the end of the series) and Howard went from creepy misogynist to loving husband considering starting a family (he might have to solve his internal conflit with his own lost father before becoming a dad so there is still room for some character development but I think Howard as we see him now in the show is the Howard we're going to see in the final episode of the show). But Sheldon, Leonard, Raj and Penny have only just initiated their growth and this is a gold mine for a writer. If they don't use this massive opportunity (+ the completion of Amy's growth, but I have a feeling it's gonna be closely tied to Sheldon's character development, and also they might start thinking about what they actually want to accomplish with Bernadette - she's a really nice gal and all but I still don't sense her as an actually fleshed character of her own, for now she's very much still Howard's wife only) for Season 7 I'll be disappointed beyond words.

I actually think Howard and Amy suffer from the opposite problem that Raj, Sheldon and Penny do: they were changed perhaps a bit too fast too soon and some of the traits that made them funny have been put aside (but hopefully not forever). Howard does very little pranking/techy stuff lately, which is one thing that made him hilarious to me because I was never a fan of sleazy Howard. And Amy has been mostly sitting around playing the "normal" girl to Sheldon's quirks, we haven't seen a lot of her geeky side except for when she's with the other girls when her Sheldonesque side comes out big time. I think the progress for the next season should be to bring out these sides of Howard and Amy more while letting R/P/S grow a little and reinstate a balance between all the characters.

But one thing TBBT seems very good at is to get second-wind before they need it, like Jim said about expanding the cast in S4. There wasn't really a need yet to add 2 characters and relationships to the show at the time but it would have been necessary by late S5 or 6 to keep the show fresh, and by adding them before it was needed they avoided that slump in storytelling and ratings and actually got the show to climb in a way no other show has ever done in its 6th season. This next season might be a S4 2.0 sort of thing, more second-wind before it's needed. They're like Apple, they invent things before you even know you want them :p

Re: Amy - the problem isn't so much that she changed too quickly but that it seems like we almost have two different Amies depending on who she's with. Whenever she's with the girls or with a guy who isn't Sheldon, she's the quirky, weird, Sheldon-esque character we discovered in early S4 - though not quite as wooden as she was back then - but when she's with Sheldon, she's suddenly the poor "normal" girl who had the misfortune to fall in love with a weirdo. But that's not who she is. Sheldon and Amy are supposed to be "a couple of weirdos" but lately we haven't seen that.

Re: Howard - I miss thief Howard too - I loved The 43 Peculiarity because we see him picking a lock and then stealing an expensive camera to spy on Sheldon - and it's a shame that we don't see more of that because it's not irreconcilable with married Howard at all.

@koops. Lol. Love your Apple analogy!

@Lost. I miss thief Howard as well! "The trick is to walk out like you own it". One of my favorite Howard lines.

It's interesting about Amy and you make a good point. Not wanting to go back, but definitely want to see more s4 quirky Amy interaction with Sheldon.

Very true about the 2 Amies actually, it's more that than changing too quickly, you're right. :)

eta: To continue my Apple metaphor, Amy is like the iPad. When it was first announced you heard cries (mine included) like :WTF is this? Who needs another iPhone that's just bigger and doesn't make phone calls? A year later: BUY ALL THE TABLETS!!!

And tbh the best thing about the D&D sex isn't that it's sex, it's that it's D&D. Because even though Amy isn't into fantasy/sci-fi like Sheldon, the fact that their first sexual encounter is something virtually no one would consider to be a sexual encounter just reminds us why they're made for each other: they're both very different for the whole world and they will never find solace in anyone else but each other. They're a couple of weirdos, of course their first sexy time is going to be make believe.

I wonder how the writers will start season 7, how far they are willing to progress things between Shamy. I find it better from now on to keep my expectations as low as possible, so not to get disappointed if they still want to "keep Sheldon old-Sheldon" in season 7 and not to move him forward concerning Shamy relationship and physicality. I think we all Shamy fans waited, waited and waited the kiss or something other sweet to happen between them for all the season, even before it. For me, the original ending of Valentine's Day episode would probably have been that something, but I can't know for sure since they changed the ending. One-sided hugs (only Amy hugging and showing Sheldon not returning the hug) are not that sweet for me since it's one-sided shown affection and Sheldon so reluctant to even touch her. It made me feel sad for Amy.
I have liked Sheldon's progression in ep. 1-16 and I really appreciate all of it. I think and hope it has not happened in vain, but on purpose and some goal in mind. I remember many said that they have been building this season for something big to happen in episodes 22-24. If that something big is D&D role play I'm fine with it, since that is big thing for them. Let just see how it will play out, I hope it will be really touching Shamy moment.
But I also think keeping Shamy so strictly apart from each other and almost not any short of physical contact have been ridiculous at this point, and I can't see one good reason why they couldn't have had some sweet together moments during the season. In my opinion the writers have been too strict to hinder them from any short of physical/romantic contact. This being said, I so love  the one and only hand holding in the cinema. Sheldon is willing to hold her hand though protesting a bit.
And, I have to admit... Every discussion we had, every post I read, the eager expectation we all had, the discussion they are leading Shamy to something sweet physical encounter...  I think I was expecting still too much. I feel now a bit disappointed. I hope 6x23 will save all this, since it really sounds a touching Shamy moment. Season 7 is so far away and I'm not sure how writers want to approach their relationship next season. I hope so much that they could continue from that role game somehow next season and take notice of it, and they wouldn't sweep it under the carpet.
