Well, I think they actually did a decent job showing sheldon's admiration for her in season 4.  I'm not sure why it has changed so much since then.  He seemed in love with her to me then, even though he wasn't admitting to himself or anyone else.  It just showed through his excitement when he was with her and when he talked about her.  They need to get that back somehow.

 

I feel they've shown him making his snarky comments in the episodes lately, so it would be realistic for her to be uncomfortable/upset and leave the room in ep 23.  But still, it's just too much back and forth from sheldon and gets confusing.  I mean, I get it in a way, but at the same time, I feel if sheldon was having so much internal turmoil about her, they need to make it obvious to us so we know what's going on.

Yes, that's what I meant, I was talking more about late S6, because even in S5 there were plenty of moments where it was pretty obvious he had it bad. And even this season, to me the moment where he is at the bar in 6x07, talking to Penny, the look on his face as he talks about Amy says it all: that kind of staring off in the distance sort of look. These latest episodes seem more like a prequel than a sequel, it's like the order is all wrong. How does one go from being that smitten to the recent episodes? It's just so confusing.

I agree with both of you, Koops and BazingaFan.   They really need to bite the bullet and commit.  That is the big issue.  They have done a poor job at committing this Season and it should have been a season where the commitment came.   They can't push it too much longer or fans will lose complete interest.

I have not seen one come across yet of that scene, but I loved that as well.  He was so cute doing that.  Pammie is going to make it for me and I will post it when she finishes.  Should have up shortly.

Nice insights from everyone on the writing problem we've been experiencing this second part of the season. I feel like deep down, Sheldon really is behaving that way because he's terrified of his feelings - which he is probably aware of, btw, since "When I have a feeling, I know it" and which is probably why he's reacting so strongly - but the problem is that at this point, it's only head-canon, not canon, since nothing has been done to show us that Sheldon loves Amy.

One episode they have him working on it, the next he talks trash about her insistence at hand-holding in front of her girl friends. One episode they have him saying he's quite fond of Amy, the next he's telling her he finds spending time with her tedious. One episode he panics at the thought of her leaving him, the next he wishes she were dead. And on and on and on.

It just doesn't make sense. Had these episodes been at the beginning of the season, I would have understood them better - after he grabbed her hand in S5 finale, he panics and treats her badly, then they talk about it and he apologizes and here would come the "working on it" - but right now nothing makes sense whatsoever. I know that the writers have a history of sacrificing continuity when the reward is a good joke, but this one step forward, three thousands steps backwards dynamic is getting ridiculous - and the jokes aren't even good.

O so many great insights and interesting posts. I agree with star, koops and BazingaFan.
For me episode was middling, and it was strange without Amy, and I missed her in that ep. First thing that it was strange that such big deal as a visit of Sheldon's child idol and he did not wanted to share that wonderful thing with Amy? If she is the most important person in his life, why did he not wanted to share that moment with her. I know that it was straight Professor Proton and Sheldon epiode, and Mayim wasn't there because of religious reasons, but maybe like stardust said if they gave her some scenes in that ep. she would agreed to be there, or maybe it was her request that because of religious reasons she can't be in this ep. I don't know, it's just my speculations, and thoughts. It is weard for me that Amy is the center of his life and that special moment for him and he didn't even mentioned about her. I know that you are talked about it but for me this is so inconsistency for the writers side.
For me that hug with professor and that he said about him father... was so sweet, because it shows that he can show feelings, and professor was for him little like his grandfather, because he said in that santa ep. that pop pop always encouraged him to science, was the only one from his family who did it, and after that his pop pop died, he had professor as his friend, and thanks to professor he became phisicist, he loved science thanks to professor, but his pop pop was first who encouraged him to science.

I agree with that in season 4 more of his feelings for Amy were more visible, admiration and love, but this season I think it is like that, because they want to show the maturation to the physical part of their relationship, is most difficult for him. Still do not understand why sometimes it had to be at the  Amy's cost, even if it was difficult for him, and he had to deal with so many problems , however, that these feelings which he felt to her are in him and even if this is Sheldon, that this his childish behavior, and words like I wish you were dead, even that he spoke it, makes it very unpleasant and hurtful.

This hug considering the next ep., is something important because it shows that he has the large deposits of feelings, but it will have a greater meaning and importance if season 7 will see how his feelings growing, and that he has become more mature goes forward. This must be reflected in a relationship with Amy. They're probably afraid of how it would be received by the fans, if it will be so obvious that he loves Amy, but stopping it in such a state as it is now makes this relationship strange and pointless, because if they had planned for him that he will be in relationship, that it must come to the moment when he will say that he loves her when we will know what he feels about her.

Like Bazinga Fan said, why they don't make them work together somehow, sharing love to science in lab, sharing admiration to one another to brilliance of their mind i could bring them closer to each other, and that brain is the most erogenous organ so all is in the brain, one flows from another.
It would be great idea to show his feelings and admiration for her, because in s7 they can't do that back and forth thing. He needs to show what he feels to her but in more affectionate way and more sweet way, because imo there's no turning back for him if all this would make any sense.

I noticed that at the end when Professor Proton asked Sheldon if he can replace him at the show for the Korean family...he doesn't care that earlier Professor said that other professors doesn't take him seriously after that show, he agreed, and he was so happy, that he can call himself Professor Proton junior. I mean he always thought about himself so seriously, about his science carieer, he always was so perfectionist. For him always one person was important (and Amy of course) - he himself. And now he doesn't care that this is only show for kids, that he is serious scientist not someones science toy, he doesn't care that some other scientists not take Proton seriously.  He wants to do it for this man, for his idol, and he is happy. IMO That shows he really cares about other people who are important for him, and that is some good sign for relationship with Amy. If a person like professor is important for him that much, and Amy is the one he loves, and she is his light, person which he admires and he obviously has strong feelings for her so I hope that this is a good sign for s7. That we maybe will see him caring more about Amy, showing his feelings in a way we are talking about... I hope..

Because you don't hear people yelling murder like if Sheldon chose Amy over scientific accomplishments.    It's fine if it's Professor Proton, but if the same thing had happened with Amy all hell would have broken loose. Even if he is just doing it as an occasional thing, if not a one-off. It's not like he's quitting science to become Professor Proton Jr.

I thought of this as well. It is interesting Sheldon was willing to risk his potential reputation change to do the show.   He saw how much of a detriment it was to Professor Proton and how it basically killed his career, yet his idol-love for the man was so strong, he didn't give it a thought about how it could also damage his reputation.  Very interesting.  The sad thing is, I am not sure they will translate that same blind-love action to Amy.  So far they seem to be approaching them with trepidation.  

Yes I'm afraid of that to... but I hope that if they showed him so not selfish, risking his career for a professor who was once his idol, that if Amy is so important to him, he loves and admires her, and what he feels is something more than love and admiration for her brilliant mind, but we also know he wants her in the same way as a man wants a woman. So showing him so emotional and risking his career and reputation for a professor, and that he is doing something for someone else, not for himself, and if we are not going to have this reflected in their relationship in s7, and if they do not show that she is more important to him than the professor, and  they will not show  same blind-love action to Amy,  it would have been a unreasonable step backwards and so sad   especially considering the ep. 23 that completely did not to grasp for my mind.

He started with love to science with profesor and now he has Amy with who he can share this love, she changes him but I think that if he wasn't like it, he didn't let her do that. She  completes his life, and she gives more depth into his life, she opens him to feelings and emotions, but it does not limit him as a scientist, on the contrary.

And if they will stopped in its tracks, and they will do their roller coaster with his back and  forward with their relationship, then I will not be able to comprehend it.

So I have hope and pray...
