Really... is it wrong to expect the writers make a big deal about Sheldon asking Amy to be his girlfriend.... Really?????

And I think the show does "big deals" pretty well...... Penny's ILY clearly felt like a big deal.....Leonard asking Penny the second was a pretty big deal......and it was a rather special episode..the entire format or presentation was different which this show rarely does....Sheldon grabbing Amy's hand was a pretty big deal...Sheldon hugging Penny was a pretty big deal.....

But TFSA episode was monochrome which clearly should have been special or different....

After watching that episode .....everyone's favorite part should have been Sheldon asking Amy to be his girlfriend...not any other moment in the episode , at least for the hardcore fans....

You're twitchy, you know. Mostly, it's either you just like trying to rise responses out of people, a contrarian or you're just expecting so much from this tv show. I mean, whenever everyone likes something you try to say "I don't really like this" or "I don't really like that" but when everyone's been complaining about the santa simulation being a bit dark, you go and say, "oh I like it because that's how it is, that's the surprise in the episode".

Yeah, yeah. We know you don't like TFSA. You also don't like TAD because people were cheering for Sheldon when he was "ruining" Leonard's relationship.

Just sayin'.

ETA: Who the fuck are the hardcore fans? So, shippers like us, who spend time browsing the forums, searching the internet for spoilers, news and updates from writers themselves are NOT hardcore fans? Those who are MORE updated with the show are not HARDCORE fans?

Just because I've been rewatching episodes like crazy lately, I was watching TFSA last night and I had never noticed how fidgety Sheldon is when he is in the cinema about to ask her to be his girlfriend. Jim did a great job there as usual, because you don't really notice it unless you pay attention to the hands and his legs. He's wringing his hands and tapping and squirming from the waist down. Such subtle acting.

The other thing about that scene was that he seemed to be avoiding eye contact with her, another sign of being nervous.  Yes, they were sitting facing the same way and not each other, but he was almost trying not to look at her.  The only time he really looked at her was when he said she was being impossible.  I also loved the way he almost seemed to be holding his breath while he waited for her answer.  That whole episode is one of my favorites--watching Sheldon go from confident that Amy wouldn't be interested in Stuart to scared at the thought of losing her to finally acknowledging his feelings to relieved that his feelings were reciprocated.  We saw him go through all those emotions while trying to hide them and hide from them as much as he could.  To me that episode was a VERY big deal, written and acted beautifully.

Trust me, for us it was a big deal, and that was the favorite part. Thanks for worrying about us hardcore fans, but we're fine. :)

I might not be in a position to say much because at the time I wasn't following the show in order, so I wasn't one of those people sitting on the edge of their seats waiting for S/A to be official. If I had been, my perception might have been different. In any case, I do think it was a big deal, but I don't know what you would have expected for it to be a "big deal" to you. For Sheldon to get down on one knee or cry or shout at the top of his lungs? He's extremely proud and extremely reluctant to let his walls down, he wouldn't even admit he was jealous and instead unfriended all his friends on FB. I thought the way he asked her was perfectly in character. My favorite part is that last scene because he is more possessive and jealous in that scene than we've ever seen him before, and that to me really means a lot. I think Shamy are a lot about nuances and subtlety and this episode showcases all of that beautifully. Like tmp says, you see Sheldon progress through a mini-journey in that episode, but the point of it is that it's not in-your-face and over the top.

In any case, to me it was a big deal, that whole episode. Maybe it wasn't everybody's idea of a big deal, but I was very happy with it.

I LOVE that Sheldon with all his hang-ups displays sexual jealousy over Amy.

It KILLED him that Amy was into Zach, he hit Leonard when he thought he had used his groin inappropriately with Amy and he was scared that Amy might have 'lattes and intercourse' with Stuart.

Oh and when Amy said someone found second base he looked back with a concerned quickness.

I love that even though he isn't able to meet her needs as yet, he damn sure doesn't want anyone else doing that.

True story: I expected the writers to make a bigger deal of Penny's long overdue ILY. It didn't clearly feel like a big deal to me the way that it was presented.

"Really?????" Yes, really.

Different people see things differently. Shocking, I know.

Nothing wrong with having different perspectives. I just think it is a bit presumptuous to tell someone that this scene or that scene should have been their favorite.

"The thought of you sitting in a darkened theater with a character like Stuart is repellant."

He definitely knows what goes on in darkened theaters, as naive as he wants to appear to others...

Are you kidding me? That's the part I pay the most attention to, even rewinding it to watch his fussly hands and wiggly legs again and again. :D

I also noticed that when she tells him to try it again and he says she's being ridiculous, that when she leans back over toward Stuart, his mouth kind of falls open in surprise. You can barely see it, though, because he's just on the edge of the camera shot.

I love that scene! (As if you couldn't tell...) :D

Yep, one of my favorite scenes in one of my favorite episodes. The wriggling hands and lack of eye contact get me every time. I like Amy in this scene as well, she seems so casual like she was expecting him to show up and try to get her back. The way she forces him to restate his request is brilliant. The romantic music playing in the movie just makes the whole thing perfect. In 6.02, when the group is at the movies, there is an adventure theme playing that suddenly changes to a softer theme as soon as Sheldon takes Amy's offered hand. Love it.

I thought the music in that scene where he's asking her to be his girlfriend was a nice touch. Plus, he looked extremely hansome and those eyes....wow. Amy also looked beautiful. I liked her make-up.

Agreed, making a big deal out of it was the complete opposite of what Sheldon wanted. If he could have just controlled her telepathically to be all his then he would have. This is Sheldon Cooper we're talking about, the man who founds his thoughts in logic and reason, hellbent on the idea that romantic relationships were for those further down the evolutionary scale - ridiculous and a massive waste of time. It's completely in-character that he'd feel emotionally hijacked when Amy came into the equation, and being the logical man he is, he'd look for the quickest and easiest option to solve the issue. He certainly wouldn't celebrate these feelings that were intruding his life with flowers and confetti. He wanted to get out of there asap, which made the fact that Amy was "being impossible" hilarious.

For us, it was a huge deal though. Amy forced him to speak directly to her and ask her to be his girlfriend even though he was desperate not to, it just showed how strong his feelings for her were to be able to overcome his pride like that. Definitely one of my favourite scenes :)

I love how she takes a couple of seconds to answer him when he finally asks her.  Her facial expressions are great, too.  When he asks her, she gets this look of restrained joy/relief.  As much as we know she wants to be his girlfriend, she doesn't let him get away with not saying it directly.

It's such a neat trick, to have the music they want playing in the theater.. it gives the scene a really deep lyrical quality, especially as a tantalizing backdrop to Sheldon's reticence and Amy's casualness.

The way they both fix their eyes on the screen, while clearly mentally focused on each other; and there's so much fear and anticipation in Sheldon's eyes, in spite of himself.. the whole scene was just magic.

Now we know how crazy she has become about him and all of her social 'training' from Penny has taken more of an effect, it makes me wonder what reaction she would have given if he asked her out now instead of back then...

Also and this maybe just my take on it but at the end when Sheldon showed Amy his splinter finger when Any went up to him it was a very intimate (for them anyway) moment, just the way the scene played out

I agree with you.  He needed something and he ran to her.  The fact that it was something physical made it especially meaningful.  I remember as a teenager seeing a woman who asked her husband to get an eyelash out of her eye, and thinking that I had just seen the definition of trust.  Letting someone get a splinter out of your finger is practically the same thing.

I loved how Sheldon was during...

Sheldon: I got the results back. Have you developed any of the following symptoms? A growing nose, or perhaps a warm sensation in the trouser region? Also known as full-blown liar, liar, pants on fire.

Amy: All right, all right. But I really was sick at the beginning. It’s just been so nice having you take care of me.

Sheldon: It hurts that you would lie to me, Amy. I thought our relationship was based on trust and a mutual admiration that skews in my favour.

Amy: I feel terrible I did this.

Sheldon: It pains me to say it, but I think some form of penalty is in order, so as to discourage this type of behaviour in the future.

Amy: I suppose that’s fair. What do you suggest?

Sheldon: In a perfect world, I’d lock you in a stockade in the public square. That probably requires a permit.

Amy: I could not be allowed to go to the opening of the next Star Trek movie.

Sheldon: Oh, that seems overly harsh. I mean, you gave in to a human weakness, you didn’t kill a man. You know, it’s a tad old-school, but my father was not one to spare the rod when my brother would sneak into his truck and drink his driving whiskey.

Amy: Are you saying you want to spank me?

Sheldon: I don’t want to. But it looks like you left me no choice.
