The Entire Premise Is Changing, Not Sure How To Feel.

Oh dear , I never said Amy is not the one... Amy is the only one but its Penny who knows Sheldon better....

Penny is the one for Leonard :)

Well , I think there are many many examples in the show that support my statement that Penny understands Sheldon the most...(again I'm not refering to the science talk)

Now whether you agree or not is a different question....

I totally agree with you. I'm not sure why people think Penny doesn't understands him best. It has been proven in the past and I'm sure it will be proven in the future.

Beautiful was not my choice of word, as you may have guessed. When I look at Sheldon, I see and relate to his discomfort. He does not want to touch and Amy does. That's an uncomfortable view. So far, his actions have mostly been reactions to her disappointment, in some form of another. This relationship has echoes of unrequited love and obsession underpinning it's innocence to me. I've have seen people waste their lives in this way over someone, and Amy long suffering patience feels a bit similar. I'm waiting for a sign from Sheldon, that is not prompted by Amy.

I think his choice to ask Amy to be his girlfriend is an important sign from Sheldon.  While he was finally prompted into action by seeing Amy going out with another guy, it wasn't as if she asked him to ask her to be his girlfriend.

And Penny didn't really tell him to ask her to be his girlfriend, either.  She told him to tell her how he felt about her, but asking her to be his girlfriend was his decision.  Of course, he did it in his own way, and tried to hem her in with the RelAg, but in the end it comes down to the fact that over the beginning of S5 he seemed to be beoming more aware of his own bond with her and a sort of primitive need to claim her as his own.

When Leonard first asked Sheldon if it would be okay for Stuart to ask Amy out, Sheldon didn't really object, since they were just friends and he had no claim to her when it came to dating others.

But when the reality of it hit him, he found that he didn't like the idea of her dating someone else.  Of course, he made it out as if Stuart was a bad character for her to be with, but in the end it was just his way of working into the process of staking his claim on her.

If he were truly thinking of her only as a close friend, he would not have cared that she was dating someone else, he wouldn't have karate-chopped Leonard and told him "She's not for you!"

Sheldon may have a sort of mental block about it, but his animal brain knows what it wants and he has given in to it enough to go out of his way and step out of his comfort zone enough to purposefully and intentionally ask her to be his girlfriend.

He may not quite know all the ways to express that, but he wants it enough to have acted on it.

She's content. Evidence? She's still with him and being extremely patient. Whether you feel they are at "close friend" status or not. They are both happy with what they have and that's all that matters right now.

Exactly the Relationship Agreement is not The Friendship Agreement.

Basically a relationship (for those in the thread having difficulty with Amy And Sheldon dating) is where two people date. :icon_wink:

I know couples that have been together for years in which one or both of them have been discontent at times and in some cases throughout.

I think we can end this with the show intends for them to be together so at some point it will grow unless they change their minds.  It doesn't make any sense for her to patient and happy but the show will conveniently make her that way so they can move Sheldon at a slow pace.  In the real world Sheldon would have to go for counseling to navigate these waters because desire does not always equal ability.  In the real world Amy would be in tears a lot and Penny and Bernadette would be telling her to break up with him.

But, this is fiction.
