Tripper
Last night's episode of The Big Bang Theory set a new series high in total viewers and matched its high in the adults 18-49 demographic. With only CBS airing originals last night, the network performed better than the other four networks combined. http://the-big-bang-theory.com/story/1770/The-Big-Bang-Theory-hits-new-highs/

phantagrae
I had a lot of fun watching this with my sister last night. I do think that the couch moment with L/P looked physically awkward, but I don't think it was otherwise intended to be anything but sweet. I think I have to rewatch the episode before I can comment further about their interactions in that moment. I think the Kirk stuff is something I want to hear again. It may be that the last Kirk joke is why they had them sitting in that odd position. Anyway, I think it is important that Penny admitted to Leonard that she feels insecure and why she does. I think that is the "truth" of this episode, and it's important that they both understand this. Leonard has admitted his insecurities and now she has, and that openness and honesty is fantastic for their relationship and puts them on a more even footing than they have ever been on before. I think this can really strengthen their relationship. As for Sheldon getting involved, he wasn't doing it for Leonard and Penny's sake, but for himself. At the cafeteria he objected to her coming on to Leonard because he felt she should be paying attention to himself (in terms of working as his assistant) and not wasting her time and attention on flirting with or coming on to Leonard (as he said in her first episode--"notice people on your own time--we're working here!") So, his point that she's a slave to her female urges is in line with that attitude. She needs to fight her urges to come on to Leonard in order to concentrate on her work with Sheldon. I don't think his comments about sexuality are contradictory to his personal naïveté. He's not talking about personal relationships as much as about biology. He's always talked about biological urges interfering with work--he's mentioned such things to Leonard before. Of course someone new to their group could easily take offense. And of course he wouldn't think anything of making the same kind of comments to the HR lady.

vasu
Hello everybody. I'd like to know what Leonard says at 1'12, just after Alex speaks about the lecture. Thnaks for all ! Hi Derdo I think this is what Leonard says -- "That's his take on John Wheeler's quantum foam. That should be great"

Martian Girl
I find my thoughts after watching the episode very different from what I read above : 1. Maybe it's because I'm not from the States and different countries have different customs, but... Wasn't Alex's complaint, Sheldon's remarks about his friends and the way they were dealt with by Human Resources Department much exaggerated? I mean, Sheldon did not harassed Alex sexually (he was just sexist, which is a different matter), nor did Howard by building a sex robot (though he used the university's resources to do it, so technically he's guilty of defraudation). The only crime of Leonard and Raj was to speak about their own sexual life and desires in more or less public place. Can you really be sent to a compulsory sexual harrassment course by university's authorities for such things in USA? (On the other hand, I'm surprised that they let Sheldon use Alex for such things as Sheldon After Dark project - it seems to me he can tell her to do anything and everything and she's obligated to obey.) It seems to me that even talking about menstruation or STDs (if done by men) is considered sexual harrassment according to the laws at the university where Sheldon and Leonard work. Sheldon's sexist remarks to Alex and the HRD lady (about their "slavery to their urgers" and "currently menstruating") were simply rude, but they were not sexual harrassment and did not deserve to be treated so seriously. (In this light, I consider Sheldon's making Alex to do the course in his stead a clever and appropriate answer.) Would you agree? 2. All that being said - the only trait of Sheldon which I really dislike is his attitude towards women intellectuals (luckily for Amy, he apparently considers her to be an exception). And that's why I miss Leslie Winkle, who liked to show him he's WRONG .
koops
Does Sheldon have an attitude towards women intellectuals? He is sexist when it comes to being slaves to these urges, because it's an easy way to explain why women react badly to him rather than admitting he's been a jerk, but he has always shown great respect for Amy, Bernadette and Beverly (the ones I can think of, off the top of my head) even though he might look down on their disciplines. Even with Alex, he's never been dismissive about her intellect. I can't remember other instances besides Leslie where he belittled a woman's intellect. Are there any? Shamynatress
It was a good ep but I think it read better on paper than it did on the screen. I agree with those who say that, yes, Sheldon is oblivious and clueless but at times when he was in the HR office it was a bit too much. I personally was rather uncomfortable with the "slave" joke. But overall he was hilarious, especially the Council of Ladies part and why did he have a 4th tshirt?? LOL was he planning to wear one himself? I really loved this Episode. Gave me some great laughs with the harrassment dialogs and Sheldon. Also really liked Leonard in this one! About the 4th T-Shirt: Just imagening Sheldon wearing it...... HOT! SRAM
The only thing about this episode is that Sheldon's character has seemed to regress a little. During episode 6.08 he seemed to understand relationships and sex more, but in this episode he is so clueless on what he is doing. Also he sold out his friends again like he did before with the female FBI agent. He gets upset and tries to transfer blame to others, like a child. Sometimes, especially after the Amy character was developed, I think Amy is too good for him. I like all the characters, but Sheldon's reactions in an episode vary from episode to episode lately. phantagrae
Due to no competition programming. Even so, they could have been watching repeats of other shows if they preferred those shows to BBT, but they didn't. If I don't like a show, I won't watch it just because it has a new ep and everything else is in reruns. And If I love a particular show, I'd just as soon watch a rerun than watch a new ep of some show I don't care about.
Doug
I liked most of this episode although there were some uncompleted plots and some other issues. But still Alex's story had no proper closure.. I get that this is not a story about Alex but still she asked a guy in a who is a relationship out and she never had to answer for the inappropriateness of that. And Alex and Leonard did not even get a scene together after that which would have clarified where they stand now , I mean I would assume Alex would want to know where she stands given the fact that he told all this friends that she had asked him out Agree enjoyable episode. Some plots unfinished but that may be on purpose. The Alex storyline may not be over. Alex is still working for Sheldon. Sheldon because of what happened is unlikely to take any action in the future. Then let’s look at what Alex came away with from the flirting session with Leonard: Note these are from Alex’s point of view not necessarily the truth. Leonard finds interesting the same things as her. Leonard was willing to spend time with her. Leonard made spending time with his girlfriend sound more like a chore. Leonard’s girlfriend does not share his interests and sounds dull. Leonard’s response to being asked out was largely positive. Leonard at no point and time discouraged her. It is also likely she will find out Leonard was very happy about her flirting with him. Not exactly the recipe for Alex to stop. For me writers having characters say someone would not do something over several episodes always makes me suspicious.
Slicknickshady
Alex is not a threat to Leonard and Penny. Get over it. And Ratings were adjusted up to 19.25 million. Holy... Edited January 4, 2013 by Slicknickshady
C-Trayne
Agree enjoyable episode. Some plots unfinished but that may be on purpose. The Alex storyline may not be over. It is also likely she will find out Leonard was very happy about her flirting with him. Not exactly the recipe for Alex to stop. For me writers having characters say someone would not do something over several episodes always makes me suspicious. So I'll go for a little less hostile response here and say that even though I do particularly enjoy the Lenny ship I think you are right... they really didn't close the Alex story. It would have been nice to at least see Leonard deny the invitation or something along those lines, because in her eyes she is basically seeing what you've stated. Some might be exaggerated a little but on the whole its a valid point. Now thus far I think we've seen the Alex character play at least part of her role. In terms of the story she was set to both 1) make Penny jealous (episode 3) and now get her to admit her insecurities to Leonard which has happened. At this point the question does become what happens next for her? since her story wasn't exactly concluded. Sure it would be easy for them to pull a Priya situation and give us one line of dialogue next episode that says Sheldon fired her or something but I don't see that happening. My only hope is that this love triangle crap is over, they've given L/P enough drama already, move on to another couple!!! haha
Tensor
Due to no competition programming. The problem with with this claim is that on Wednesday night NBC aired new programming, with repeats on all the other networks, and at 8 and 8:30 NBC didn't even win their time slots. At 9 NBC won, but with only 31% (7.75 out of 25 million) of network viewers. At 10 PM, NBC won with 45% of network viewers. But, total viewers at 10PM were less(at 18.59 million) than there were viewers of TBBT (at 19.25 million). So why didn't any of the new shows on NBC have numbers as big as TBBT, since there weren't any competitive programs against those shows?
Tensor
And Ratings were adjusted up to 19.25 million. Holy... The 18-49 demo was also adjusted up to 6.1. This is also a series high, from the 6,0 of the overnights.
BangerMain
Kaley looking directly into the camera again was just SO SHOCKING. I dig the episode regardless :D She does this so often it's becoming her trademark I wonder what people in the business think about this, though.
