Sheldon's Thoughts On Each Member Of His Group's Intelligence

Recommended Posts

What does Sheldon Cooper think about Rajesh Koothrappali and Bernadette Rostenkowski in terms of intelligence?

I remember Sheldon noticing that Bernadette understood what he did (his work), but does that mean he thinks she's smart?

With Raj talking more freely, giving our Shelly more to judge him about, I need to know, was this addressed in an episode?

(Does anybody know/Has anybody watched an episode where S's opinion of Raj's intelligence was addressed?)

Sheldon respects Raj the most, seemingly. Raj started working with/for Sheldon in 3.04 "The Pirate Solution".When Raj walked out because Sheldon was being obnoxious, insisting he was right about a calculation, they had this exchange at Raj's apartment:

Sheldon: All right, you’ve made your point.

Raj: What do you want, Sheldon?

Sheldon: I looked over the board and it turns out you were right.

Raj: So you were wrong.

Sheldon: I didn’t say that.

Raj: That’s the only logical inference.

Sheldon: Nevertheless, I didn’t say it. Anyway, I would like you to come back and work for me.

Bernadette would be put into the same category as Amy, by Sheldon. He would respect her personal intelligence but not her field, Biology.

Sheldon was certainly proud of Bernadette when Bernadette got her PhD in Season 4. The PhD equivalency also goes for Raj, Leonard and Amy. Therefore, he must deem Raj as fairly intelligent. He also described Raj as a 'superior' individual to Leonard in the Season 4 finale, but I don't think that had anything much to do with intelligence. A friend of mine did suggest that the four main male characters respective intellectual abilities goes in the same order as their height: Sheldon, then Raj, then Leonard, then Howard.

Sheldon thinks highly of Bernadette and Amy.  Hasn't really shown either way for Raj.  Has little respect for Leonard's work and cant ever pay Howard a compliment.  Do I even have to touch what Sheldon thinks of Penny?

The respects Raj now. He didn't at first. He had to force himself to smile when he got that peoples award but after they worked together and Raj solved the equation he seems to have changed his mind. Recently when Sheldon asked Leonard where he stood on the anthropic principle, he wouldn't believe he knew what it meant. But he accepted an answer from Raj right away.

I think Sheldon believes Raj is the second smartest to him.And looking at the show inspite Raj's weird creepy behavior I have come to the same conclusion.

I think Sheldon ranks the group as Sheldon,Raj,Leonard,Howard and way way down the list Penny.

Wouldn't Sheldon consider Amy to be more or less his intellectual equal (if we ignore the discipline)? That was the idea behind the "benign overlords" thing, that she's meant to be intellectually superior, Counterfactuals etc. Yes, that was S4 but I doubt she's lost IQ points in the meanwhile, lol. I think he definitely thinks himself smarter (hence the "mutual admiration that skews in his favor"), but I'd put her over Raj.

Then, yes, I think he ranks Raj above Leonard and definitely both above Howard. Bernadette definitely over Howard but I'm not sure how she ranks compared to Leonard and Raj. And Penny way way down the list, lol.

I agree with Spook that Amy would be next in line after Sheldon and Raj over Leonard.  Bernadette might be between Raj and Leonard, perhaps, since Sheldon constantly denigrates Leonard's work but doesn't seem to consider Bernie's work pointless or anything.  And he did tell Howard that he think's Howard is good at what he does, he just doesn't consider what he does to be all that important.

So I think maybe Sheldon considers Howard smart enough for an engineer, but not as smart as the rest of the gang--or not as educated, anyway--and not in a "worthy" field. :p

Isn't it so odd that because Sheldon is so sure of himself, that we, the audience almost believe him.

For example, Howard can run rings around him and is always making jibes about it "yeah he's going to win the nobel prize" but Sheldon bases his assessment on literals only. Howard never bothered to get a doctorate and chose to be an engineer, so therefore he can't be smart...

It has more than just Sheldon being Sheldon.Isn't his IQ in the 180's and Leonard's in the 170's?

I think Sheldon is indeed "smarter" than Leonard in IQ points, but Sheldon has little common sense, or his quirkiness sometimes overwhelms is basic intelligence.  And he doesn't have a very high "emotional IQ".

I've said before that Sheldon is both a genius and an idiot.  But I love that about him. :p

While he really doesn't like her, I believe Sheldon (in the back of his mind) fears that Leslie Winkle is his intellectual equal... Maybe even his superior?

" After years of insults, Howard wants Sheldon to give him a compliment about his job and Sheldon replies that he never said that Howard is not good at his job but that his job is inconsequential and could not see the purpose of Howard's job."

(In The Hawking Excitation)

I think that Sheldon is definetely over the top as usual...in considering his friends fairly and right! Just the thought that someone building scientific material  for space use or other use in our society. is useless! Myself how much I would like having a robot to hoover at the flick of my finger. Moreover what about the industrial revolution? What about machinery for factories created to mass produce cars to make life easier for workers... otherwise slaved by very high reproduction and repetitive activity. Thanks Howard :) you are a genius!
