The Continuity Errors Thread

Anomaly

Recommended Posts

I'll just start off with two that I've noticed (though I know of more)...

1: In one episode (I'm not looking up the titles) Howard, claiming if he can perform an alignment on a probe from light years away, can diagnose the broken elevator in Sheldon & Leonard's apartment building. He gives up, simply saying (something like) Yup, that puppy's broken. Yet, in another episode, Howard actually witnesses the destruction of the elevator during the rocket fuel incident. Why would he need to diagnose it, knowing full well what happened to it?

2: In one episode, Sheldon tells Dr. Stephanie that he was born in the same Texas hospital where she did her internship, while in another episode Sheldon's Mother tells the gang that Sheldon fell out of her at the Wal-Mart. Simple continuity error, or was one of them lying... Or misinformed?

Anyway, these two should get the conversations flowing. What errors have you spotted?

I have spotted two both which conflict with the guys' Arctic Expedition and the guys being in Pasadena in the summer of 2009.

1. Leonard mentioning to Alice in Season 5's "The Good Guy Fluctuation" that he went to Comic Con in the summer of 2009 where he cosplayed as Lion-O from "ThunderCats" and got a drawing of him from Jim Lee.

(This next one could be debatable and will get the conversations flowing even more) 2. Leonard telling Sheldon in Season 4's "The Cruciferous Vegetable Amplification" that there is was no malaria in Pasadena in previous summer, unless Leonard meant the summer of 2010.

A lot of shows have continuity errors.

It's funny, I was watching Rugrats the other day, they had a "Continuity Checker" for every single episode of Rugrats and All Grown Up. They even have the name in the credits.

Most shows should either get one. Now some may and just not put it in the credits. But the only time i have seen a "Continuity Checker" in the credits is for Rugrats. Which is interesting cause the babies are the same age throughout the 9 seasons of Rugrats.

I can see why they would have one in "All Grown Up". To make sure they didnt mess up anything from Rugrats but to have one for Rugrats itself is quite interesting.

But with all that said, Big Bang Theory does a really good job for the most part.

What?? Means She delivered him in a supermarket?? I didn´t understand that....I was thinking she said that Sheldon fell down from her, means her arms maybe...!!

Of the top of my head a big one is how in the pilot Sheldon and Leonard go to a sperm bank and Leonard says to Sheldon he is "practically an expert" at producing a deposit when we know from the series Sheldon ifs so asexual that when he is guided by Amy an how to massage his own sore shoulder the pleasure of touch from his own hands causes him to say he has never been touched like this before. Clearly in the pilot they had not yet decided to make Sheldon completely asexual. Instead they leaned on the lonely geek stereotype that he is experienced in masturbation.

While that has always bothered me, I too chalk it up to it being the pilot. Also, if you notice, Sheldon seems to be almost competing with Leonard for Penny in that episode.

Alex did not need to buy Sheldon a hard hat as he had one for his emergency drills I thought.

Anyone who has specific Pajamas for each night of the week, or a specific breakfast food for each day of the week, would not take the hard hat out of the storage location for emergency gear to play Giant Jenga.    That obviously requires separate safety gear.

You'd think this topic would bug me but honestly being a continuity specialist I can honestly say this show is pretty good about making sure the scenes and atmosphere for frames and shots are pretty damn good!  (if unclear what I mean, if a bottle or cup is turned a certain way, the next take or frame seems to follow correctly) I found a few lil errors but that just justifies no one is perfect.  Now as far as timelines and even character traits that is a different issue but believe me I've seen way worse on other shows.  Their staff and crew is pretty damn good!  I envy them so much right now. :)

While I'm not 100% positive, I think that's a beer Sheldon is drinking in the pilot. But again, I'll chalk that up to it being the pilot.

Wait, when?  Havent watched pilot in a long time!

Yeah, and I think that in the pilot and/or early episodes, Sheldon seems to drink coffee, too.

Yes, buggin' on that one! :p

i thought it was orange stuff?

In the pilot?  It's hard to tell.  It could be a sort of light-colored beer.  Whatever it is, he pops the cap off, looks at it, then throws it in the trash.  But the bottle looks like a beer bottle.

They don't really say one way or the other, though, so it could be anything.

Tht was an orange drink I think in the tv pilot.

In the second ep. Sheldon makes himself coffee. Or looks like he was about to make coffee.

Later in penny blossom ep. He says he doesn't drink coffee.

I'm surprised he doesn't drink coffe.

He's fine w sodas, tea and he drank Mountain Dew. That drink has tons of caffeine.

Sheldon would be wired up for days. More than the coffee. IMO

I'm not surprised he doesn't drink coffee.  It's not just about the caffeine, but also about the flavor.

THe Work Song Nanocluster was 2nd season and I don't think they'd codified the issue up until then, though I think there were early episodes where he seemed to be going to the coffee pot in the morning.

At any rate, one thing I've noticed about Sheldon is that he seems to have a sweet tooth--he loves things like Kool-aid, cereal, Red Vines, Icees, ice cream, chocolate, chocolate pudding, etc.  Though he does seem to drink Diet Coke...

Anyway, the Mountain Dew mention was in the 3rd season, so maybe between the cokes and the drink of coffee and the "accidental sip of Red Bull", Sheldon's developed a tolerance for caffeine and can drink the occasional Mountain Dew. :p

I drink Diet Pepsi or Diet Coke pretty regularly, but it wasn't until my last couple of years of college or maybe grad school that I started drinking sodas with caffeine, and that was mostly because McDonalds stopped serving Diet 7-Up.  But even now I don't really drink coffee.  THe closest I come is something like a Cafe Mocha or Mocha Latte, which is basically coffee-flavored chocolate (as opposed to chocolate-flavored coffee.)

I love the way coffee smells, and I love coffee ice cream, for example, but I just don't like the way coffee tastes, even with a ton of milk and sugar in it.

I'm the same as you when it comes to coffee. Mostly I go for a white chocolate mocha because basically it is sweet white chocolate with a little coffee flavoring in it. Maybe Sheldon's Mountain Dew in Series 3 was only a once a month type of thing?

Wasn't that "orange" drink basically this: OrangeCreamSoda_zps776e7fa2.jpg

Don't you know how BAD diet soda is for you? It's not even good for weight control.
