Ar, maybe you should get in contact with tptb, because you tend to think you know everything and on how to make a SITCOM.  Why dont you tweet Bill Prady right now at how he and his crew did such a bad job on every scene.

Better yet, next time I talk to BP, I will be sure to relay your message. :)

How is saying that Penny is poor compared to every other character on the show a crack? It is the truth.

Combined Bernie and Howard would not be making less the 325 K annually together. That is in the very rich category. They can afford to blow 2500 for a printer. Now Bernie may not want to waste money but saying that they cannot afford it is ridiculous.

In the real world they would be making 300 to 400K together with Howard making more than half that total. But this is "Big Bang Land" and the salaries for the guys, especially Howard and Leonard, are ridiculously low-balled. I cringed when Bernie said that Howard makes "peanuts". Here is not just any Aerospace engineer, a very high paying profession by the way, but one who was a major contributor on the Jupiter deep planetary probe, the Mars Rover, the International Space station and  a former mission specialist for NASA. He would be one of the top performers in the profession and bringing down some serious six figure dollars. He would be able to buy a couple of 3-D Printers just for fun.

But it would ruin the underdog persona that the creators want for the guys if they showed how much these men would make if they were real.

What I do not like about the Howard/Bernadette story is "the immature husband and the mature wife" paradigm that are a part of sitcoms for the last 30 years.. It is to much a canned story. It does fit the nerd Howard charcter, but that is a tired story.

I didn't much care for this one.  Just felt forced, generic, and not very funny.  Kripke grilling Sheldon about his sex life was ridiculous and juvenile.  How does Howard not make great money as a friggin' NASA engineer?  That whole piece of the TBBT universe bugs me - all these guys are making piles of money in the real world.  Don't like the 'no common sense man being put in his place by his practical wife' bit.  It's been done to death.

There were some funny moments though.  Am I the only one who thought Howard's original doll actually did look quite a bit like him?  :D  And I laughed pretty hard at Penny's questioning of Sheldon and the way she kept smacking Leonard - great, that.  I like that Sheldon is maturing; that scene was very well done.

Sorry to be the skunk at the slumber party but there were only two LOL moments for me - when Howard and Raj first got their action figures and when Sheldon goofed up another fist bump. I can understand all the Shamygasms over the episode but what most others out here  consider to be the "growth" and "humanizing" of Sheldon, I see as the continuing dismantling of a once brilliantly unique character and his transformation into Ross from "Friends". It may be "touching" but he's just not as funny as original Sheldon. I guess it depends on what we expect from the show. LOL moments have taken a back seat to "awwwwww" moments. And the skunk leaves the room. Fire away.

I agree with your thoughts.

Maybe theres a history here I have no clue about, but arent we all allowed to have our own opinions even when they differ?

May be cliche, but it does happen in real life, it takes alot of us guys getting a wake up call to grow up sometimes.  When I was married only a year I traded in my truck and brought home a BMW convertible on a whim, needless to say that was a "life experience".  But hey, its was very quiet for a week!  As far as the scene goes, Bernadette had a right to be upset, but she did belittle him and took it just a bit to far.

Bernie as a Phd holder in a top Pharma company would make more than Howard but Howard himself would be making a lot more than 6 figures. In fact all the characters except Penny would be making 6 figures easily.

The only reason they downplay how rich the characters are is to keep them on the same social level as Penny the waitress.

When I was first married I was immature and was still into comic books. But I was smart enough to talk expenses over with my wife and if after we were married she took my name off of the checking account our marriage would have been in extreme jeopardy if not over. I was in college and she made all the money, but we understood we were in it together. I just get tired of idiot husbands on TV. :icon_wink:

I really don't feel Howard is an "idiot" husband. This episode was supposed to highlight his immaturity and thoughtlessness; it did that. Where we all have issues is the fact his wife is treating him exactly like his mum does: like a child! That does not please me nor does it ultimately help Howard, much

Of course Kripke was juvenile and ridiculous--that's who he is! He's always been more interested in sex--or hearing about it anyway--than anything else.

Like Zack and the hot tub! Yeah he has always been a bit of a curious perv.

Howard has grown up some.  He just needs to get off his high-horse and get back to reality.

This may be a dumb question but am I the only one to think that Sheldon's cry sounded faked or forced? Was it maybe intended to be like that just to be comical?

Otherwise I think and Kripke matched up pretty well together in this episode.

Bernie may have come off a little rough on Howard buying the 3D printer but then as a married couple it should be Howard's duty to at least confront discuss a major purchase like thatwith his wife first. Her saying that Howard makes peanuts out of line. I believe she may have considered to agree on him buying the printer it if reasonable financial arrangements were made.

Nope you're not, I agree on Sheldon's crying being fake. I thought Amy did a much better job of that scene.

Also I understand the principle of Howard and Bernadette's financial story but their wage imbalance is not believable. And why he spent a further 2500 after being unhappy spending 500, was also not believable. Their marriage doesn't add much to laugh at IMHO. Bernadette has replaced his mother, but his mother was funnier. She would shout at him too but he would shout right back.

Someone pointed out that Howard works for the university, not for NASA or in the private sector, so he might not make all that much money, especially compared to Bernie. Dunno--just thought I'd put that out there.

That's Jim's choice for Sheldon crying. It's the same kind of comical crying that he used in the Electric Can Opener episode and in the Thespian Catalyst(?) .

I'm sure Jim could cry for real if he wanted or needed to, but this is a comedy and he chooses to do it this way (to be funny.)

Kaley did the 'fake' cry in 3rd season when she was being taught physics by Sheldon

I liked Penny's, it was great she can really whine out a cry. And Sheldons' cry over the north pole was good too. Can't remember the other one.

It was when he was taking acting lessons from Penny and started crying about Spock taking him to the future.

I didn't like it.  I might have chuckled a couple of times and laughed maybe once.

I was just saying that the individual relationships and friendships were really being starved for attention so we get a show that barrels through all of them.  I hate this feast or famine approach to writing the show.

Kripke's research was leaps ahead of Sheldon's?  That is not Sheldon making a mistake that is Sheldon being Leonardized.

Even though he made a joke the hugging scene with Amy showed he was comforted by her.  I just wish they had made the conversation about him having sex with Amy a little bit warmer.  Also, maybe in the mean time he could work on complimenting her on something other than intelligence and actually discussing their relationship with Amy.  These are things that would make their "romance" be more believable.

The Howard/Bernadette fight scene was too predictable and I think it fell flat.  They sacrificed the joke for believability.  Instead of saying he was going to use it for printing more action figures and whistles which was incredibly stupid all he had to say was it would help him with his work.  I guess we are supposed to believe he makes far less in his field than a real life counterpart would make.  It would have also made more sense if they had painted Bernie as more of a penny pincher than saying they couldn't afford it.

I guess 2 really smart guys would buy something online with no satisfaction guarantee?  I know I am supposed to suspend belief but I came out the show when they seemed to have no option to get better results or at least their money back.

Penny being passive aggressive about how Leonard spends his money made total sense too. :icon_rolleyes:   I would not have taken that from her.

Gosh I totally agree with you Ar Diem, I'm so disappointed at the Leonardization of Sheldon, what a betrayal of the character. What happened to Homo Novus? I just can't buy that Sheldon would give up his hopes and dreams for a cheap lie...it's so tacky and also something a Southern gentleman would not do. I cannot see him mother telling Sheldon it's okay to talk about his girlfriend in such a cheap way. This episode is very out of character. But I assume this is new Sheldon. And it's not that he's with Amy, that's fine, in fact I'm happy this spring season the writers are omitting the sex-crazed dialogue on her part; wish they'd make more of her character. Their relationship just seems tepid.

Howard/Bernadette well we're back to old tv land where the husband is the irresponsible child and the wife is his mother. Too too depressing. Leonard and Penny, a bit funny if they were the only couple doing the 'he's whipped' and she rolls her eyes but we have Howard and B, and a little bit Sheldon/Amy (think Wil Wheaton).

The best part of the show was Howard and Raj and the 3D printer. I want one.

When did Sheldon give up his hopes and dreams??? Have I been watching another show once again? He explained very clearly why he went with the lie to Penny and Leonard, when was him giving up ever mentioned?? Last I remember the final scene of the episode was him working with Kripke.

And SHELDON would rather admit to Kripke his work was inferior because of intellectual limitations than go along with a lie? That is in character to you? When did he ever talk about Amy in a cheap way? He never mentioned anything about her, besides saying she "enjoys his genitals", all he did was imply they have a great sex life, he was actually annoyed when Kripke kept bugging him in the end.

Has anybody thought that maybe his research being sub-par might be part of a new story arc? Or are we just jumping to conclusions like with Fish Gut only to later be explained what it meant? Child prodigies burn out all the time, it would be a perfectly viable avenue to explore. And even if not, a) Sheldon has made plenty of mistakes in the past, and b ) like Leonard said, even Einstein got stuck in his work. I hardly think the aim of the writers is to cut off 50 points off his IQ.
