Ar Diem Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 I quoted what was needed to show that this thread had apparently welcomed factual comments from us. I don't remember being 'unrestrained', whatever that means. You asked why Penny is friends with Amy and Bernadette now, and some of us tried to reply. That's your choice. My suggestion is that you should have a thread exclusively for the HTDOTS Club (I mean this sincerely). But you can't respond to that factually you can only offer your opinions about it. The only thing factually you could say about it is that it would be harder to write the show with so many characters unless they were friends. I would accept that as true because I can imagine it would be. Most factual things would come from real life not things you interpret from the show. For instance if I asked if the cast and crew was happy about the Penny/Raj bed scene someone informed could say they were not but Lorre insisted. Again you are confused. This show is not an hour drama about the life of a group of Pasadena geeks. It's a sitcom.By definition anyone other than the main charaters is worhty of showing. Situation comedy: A humorous radio or television series featuring the reactions of a regular cast of characters to unusual situations, such as misunderstandings or embarrassing coincidences; a sitcom. If Penny or the group have other friends, relatives or hobbies that aren't linked to the group dinamic is irrelevant to the show format. BangerMain Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 When they are young and hot.Eventually they end up in a trailer as they grow old and the hotness disappears .The nerds will still have their education and career. That is the exact point made by Penny's father. If Penny had continued on with her old friends there would be no show about how the relationship between Leonard and Penny changed both their futures, Penny's far for the better. BangerMain Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 The Dead Hooker Juxtaposition was a Penny episode . So count = 1 That was definitely a Penny storyline I would count. Maybe the only one. But that still revolved around Penny's prime character motivation, jealousy of any woman who she feels is better than her and is around Leonard. Pomita Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 (edited) But you can't respond to that factually you can only offer your opinions about it. Then why was the question directed to us? I know, I'm nitpicking and this is getting boring. I just don't see the point of inviting the 'show-lovers' into this thread and then saying that we're not restrained enough or we're making comments we shouldn't be making here or whatever. That's why I'm saying, please reserve a thread only for the dissatisfied group, clearly indicating that we're meant to stay out. That was to indicate the separation between the part intended for you and those of us who were going to have the discussion. Why would I ask for your opinions when I specifically requested that we not debate opinions? How does that even come close to making sense? In context it should have been clear enough but if I ever try this again I will spell it out.

Probably it should have been clear that we're safer not venturing any responses here at all. Writing 'dear Shippers and love TBBT the way it is nowers' in the first line did make it a little misleading. I would say pointing out that Penny was never depicted as having any close or long-term friends even in earlier seasons qualifies as a fact, but since that and similar observations may also be disputed as being opinions, it's best not to get into this whole semantics issue. Henceforth will be staying out. Have fun.

Europa Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 (edited) True but anything you derive from that is supposition. Any growth perceived from it would be opinion. Not sure what you mean by this. Are you saying growth perceived by Penny abandoning her previous circle of friends for the guys and their girlfriends? I never thought of it as growth so much as just change... you get older, people move, get new jobs, get married; a lot of friendships don't survive those changes. I never thought of it as growth so much as just change... you get older, people move, get new jobs, get married; a lot of friendships don't survive those changes. But that is an opinion. My opinion is that it happened because with the 2 added girls the show is easier to write if they are all friends. You speak of change and you are right but all of this has happened in around 3 years. I still have high school and college friends, not all of them of course, but a few. Europa Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 Fair enough. What is it you want to see, then? Do you want them to explore Penny's other relationships, let us meet her other friends? Or just stop pairing her with the girls? Or maybe just get her and the other girls out of the way altogether?

I'd like to see Howard and Bernadette spun off the show to get back to a manageable level of cast members.

Everyday Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 The growth of Penny was shown in the last episode of S3: she can not date stupid guys anymore.
