Yes, I really remember. It was when I first saw him talk in his own voice (strangely it was the unaired pilot), not the stupid synchronized voice they gave him. Hit me hard! Then I googled Jim..... Hit me hard again!

All it took was a couple of interviews, to do me in. :icon_redface: What really fascinated me was Jim's similarities and contrasts with Sheldon - it's such an interesting case study!

Jim has a great smile which lights up his face and sometimes with Sheldon he breaks character either knowingly or not and brings that to life.

Oh, Jim is too consummate an actor to do anything unknowingly. Every twitch of his face or finger is thought-out (or directed). I believe he strategically uses his own sunshine smile at rare moments, when Sheldon is supposed to be at his warmest or happiest.

Spook - his shoes have always bothered me too! But I figured that this may be a usual thing in the US? In our country it's actually quite common to leave your shoes at the door when entering someone's home, so wearing them into bed would be unthinkable.

On the other forum someone had posted a pretty elaborate explanation of the colored shirts and what they supposedly signify, as well as how Amy's clothes correspond in some scenes, but I don't know if it's just speculation based on observation or anything really true.

But I guess it's interesting.

About Sheldon and his shoes on the bed, I think he's only had them on the bed once, that I can recall--in Electric Canopener. And while it is unusual, it's not as if he had them under the covers or up on his pillow.

No, he's had them more than once: Zazzy, the ep where they get back from the Arctic expedition, any time he's been sulking in bed etc. lol. It really drives me nuts for a germophobe. lol.

I was having a think and there are two particular occasions where this happens

the 1st was when he was showing penny how to play the online game and when Leonard walked in, Jim/Sheldon did this beautiful all over face smile followed by a nod of the head

and the other was with Ramona in the canteen when she kept complimenting him and saying he was witty, he was all big smiles there :), that could also be Jim using his natural charm to make her feel comfortable within the scene as well and we know he does this a lot with Mayim also especially when Amy is talking

I forgot about Zazzy, but the other time I remember him sulking in bed--after Kripke played that prank on him, he did not have his shoes on because you can see his stripey socks.

At any rate, again, he's not putting his shoes anywhere where his face or body are going to come in contact with them.

While I do think that most people would kick off their shoes if they were going to sit or lie on their bed, more for comfort's sake, I don't know that it's something that most people would really notice in the States.  I don't think that culturally as a whole people in the States make it a habit of putting their shoes on the bed (most parents will tell kids to keep their feet off the furniture, for example, but there's no strict rule about it.

And though Sheldon is a germaphobe, it seems to mostly be about skin-to-skin touching and the exchange of bodily fluids.  In that one ep where Siebert puts his hand on Sheldon's shoulder, Sheldon says something about not objecting if Siebert were wearing gloves.

I don't think Sheldon is that freaked out about things like shoe germs.

I think these are both acting choices.  I don't recall the one with the online game as clearly, but the one with Ramona was Sheldon being all flattered by her attention and happy that someone was all excited about his work, etc.

Do you know I had a similar idea to dedicate a short poem or something like that... myself too.

Why don't you post it [if it's not really very long] I'd love to read it. here.

Okay, so this was written following a discussion on the other forum about all of Jim's "bits and pieces" that everyone was "appreciating", so...

Ode to a Pea

Oh, Jimmy Joe

I'd like to know,

May I caress your roundy head?

I think I'd probably drop dead

If you would give me leave

I love your teeth

Your ears, your fingers

Upon your eyes I must needs linger

You roll your tongue

My head has sprung

A leak...

The back of your neck...

Oh, what the heck!

I want to touch your body!

Would you think of me as naughty

If I were to violate your personal space and get up close and...

Sorry...

Your thighs are strong

Your legs are long

I love your knobby, gangly knees.

You cannot know how I'd be pleased

If I could just get closer

Oh, Slimmy Jimmy

Oh, Mr. Pea

Your whole package pleases me...

So to speak...

Phanta - loved reading your Jim poem again. :)

rachygd - yes, I think his 'normal Jim smile' is most prominent at times with Amy, like when he expressed happiness in her lab in Vacation Solution or smiled at her across the table in Isolation Permutation. Those are the points when innocently-flirty-Jim meets unconsciously-flirty-Sheldon!

I had actually noticed Sheldon's shoes in the Vegas episode when he puts them up on Penny's couch while doing 'tall man from Cornwall'. I remember thinking he's spoiling her couch. :p

We should start a discussion about something to do with Sheldon. I'll start us all off with a question: What are some personality traits or flaws Sheldon could develop that would be funny? (Example: His knocking three times. That was added later and not there from the beginning.) How could these flaws or traits be added to the show?

I think we're too far into the show now to start adding new quirks to Sheldon. And he has enough as it is! I think if you add too many quirks he risks turning too cartoonish. I could see him apply his current quirks to new situations though.

(And my mind went straight into the gutter there and I didn't even mean it. I will reserve my naughty application of quirks for the Shamy thread.)

WOW that's really lovely, thanks for sharing and I think it'd be appreciated by Sheldon :)
