Yes, I really remember. It was when I first saw him talk in his own voice (strangely it was the unaired pilot), not the stupid synchronized voice they gave him. Hit me hard! Then I googled Jim..... Hit me hard again!

I just noticed the above bolded line--what do you mean by "synchronized voice"?

Yes, although I only noticed his voice going higher from Season 5 onwards. Quite weird.

He did generally not go so high up in his inflections in the earliest episodes, but he's often used that upper end of his voice.  And it's more natural for Jim, I think.  When he's on talk shows he often will use that high inflection in certain situations.  Probably not as often as he does for Sheldon, though, I guess.

But I'm pretty sure he started going higher long before the 5th season.  I'm watching a 4th season ep right now and he pops up there in certain moments. :)

He was pretty dominant in this episode. The swagger Sheldon has shown lately leads me to think he has started to develop quite a bit as of late.

"Swagger Sheldon" is a good way to describe it.  He's shown up this season, especially with alex.  Even though it's different, I like it, and I think it's part of what having a girlfriend is doing for him.

Can any of you articulate and reasonable people please for me clarify how Sheldon can treat women as he does and get the pass that he does? I don't wish to start anything nasty, but his treatment of Alex was straight out of the Madmen days IMO and we have had a few changes in the status of women since the 60s. Many here are professional working women who no doubt have relatable experience. How do you not go ballistic? :)

I'm not saying it's OK, but I think the reason he gets a pass is that he's pretty much that way with everybody.  His demeanor towards her in TTAP had nothing to do with her gender, but rather that in his opinion she's a lowly grad student nowhere near in his league as a scientist.  His behavior in TESE was more directly sexist but it seems he doesn't know any better because he's so socially clueless and he's just repeating stuff he heard his father say.  Again, not defending him, just explaining how I think the writers intend for him to get a pass.

And he does seem to have respect for women who he sees as being intellectually superior--like Dr. Plimpton and Amy.  He may still think that their biological urges may get in the way, but he also thinks that's true for men as well--like his comments about Einstein's sex life getting in the way of his work.

He's dismissive of "girly" things, but most men are--shopping, fashion, etc--but I don't think that he's dismissive of women in general just for being women.

I see sheldon copper as alost puppy in the crowd. I love him so much (no homo) he is my favorite chararcter on the show and you know i think he is just trying to fit in the present society he tries hard very hard to be kind to those around him....and that is all that matters.....

But "slaves to your hormones" doesn't imply any deference to intellect or respect for difference. And Einstein was one instance of a man. Sheldon has dissed 51% or so of the population on the basis of an intrinsic characteristic. Women may choose to shop, but people can't easily self regulate their hormone levels.

I think it's not a good look for the show on principle. You can argue distinctions, but for me it's disappointing because its so pervasive and Sheldon could amplify existing attitudes. I just hope they are going through a phase.

Just sayin'.

PS and it never came up on BSG, and Im guessin' Trek either.
