Howard was much funnier before he got with Bernadette

Maybe he was funnier but less visible. I reckon the episode on "out of space" brought him to the fore on the scene and HAD A LOT OF FUN TO SEE HIS FRUITS LOOPS TATTOO ON HIS UNWARE FUNNY FACE :D

Yes, he was less visible, as was Raj. Then again, they aren't the main characters... Leonard, Sheldon & Penny are. Everybody doesn't need to be a main character. TBBT has too many of those at this point.

Sheldon, Penny, Amy, are my favourite characters, Leonard a bit less and Howard in spite of his jerkiness he's a natural funny man so goes for Raj, I've got used to his relentless wispering to Howards' ears... I like :D that.  So somehow,  I can relate to all the characters in some way, and I look forward every week to what they will be involved in next.

Well, for me he never was less visible. I enjoy looking his face and body expressions even when others are talking and not him. After Jim/Sheldon he is the best.

I think you're misinterpreting what I mean by less visible... I mean he was not in the forefront as a main character.

No what is getting old is Sheldon's remarks about Howard not having a PHD. Howard is now a famous astronaut so why can't some university offer him one of those honorary PHDs.

I wouldn't call him a famous astronaut. He rode along as a worker bee to install some piece of equipment that he'd designed. He even got picked on by the real astronauts. The less geeky & creepy they make Howard, the more stale & unfunny he becomes. He's just an average rom-com Husband at this point (and not even a funny one).

Me too! I think Howard is one of the most expressive characters of the show.

After watching 6.22 where the baby talk came up once again (meaning H/B are going to have a baby in Seasons 7/8), I'm conviced that there's no coming back for Howard anymore. He's just too deep now in this whole husband / father thing.

Howard Seasons 1, 2, 3, 4 (first half): funny, nerdy, creepy (in a good way), ladies' man, somehow adaroble due to his size. And let's not to forget his interactions with his mother (priceless).

Howard Season 4 (second half), 5, 6: plain, boring, too normal, domesticated, submissive.

So yeah, the writers did destroy Howard's character once and for all.

The even bigger problem is that they're doing it (albeit more slowly) to Sheldon as well. Hell, the entire show is becoming plain, boring, too normal, domesticated & submissive.

Not in all the episodes of this season (sometimes it is like they are trying to return back to the real Sheldon) but in some episode I must agree with you.

I will admit that there is the occasional episode that gives me some hope, but they are the exception rather than the rule. In all honesty, I can only think of two or three episodes in the last two seasons that I actually liked and/or thought lived up in any way to the first three seasons. The last one, with Bob Newhart was one, although I found the whole Raj's dog subplot just as bad as any other recent episode.

Well, even they made Howard to be a "domesticated" husband, still he is brilliant :) Simon is an amazing actor. I too feel sad to see how he changed but (even I hate Bernadette) still I like him a lot. But I like to see him without Bernadette :)

I agree... Simon is great. It's just too bad he's now playing a very typical rom-com Husband. He's making the most out of it, but even though he's made lemon-aid out of lemons, we've all had this same lemon-aid over & over before.
