I hate her squeaky voice and the way that she has changed Howard from his true character. Yes, when she is with the other girls it is ok, but I don´t feel she is essential for those scenes. She is the principal character I like less. Yes, the verdict on Howard's character is that this is how he really is. The old Howard was in the words that Dr. Beverly told him to his face: "Classic over compensation". Bernie just brought this out in the open. The writers showed that Howard had absolutely none of the chops to be a real sleazy ladies man. The way his character was originally presented was a far, far better character than the "fixed" Howard. If Bernadette were killed off, not only would I not miss her, I'd throw a damned party! All he has left now is wardrobe. The way these writers seem to fix things is by making them less unique. Not only is the format & premise of the show becoming more watered down & typical, so are the characters. Maybe the show will end the way Newhart did, except with Penny waking up from a dream, realizing she lives in NY & her name is Rachael. To me, Bernie is funny when she flips from sweet to pissed off, and does a Mrs W. impersonation, but those moments are far and few between. Most of time, Bernie comes across as so cute, nice, and sweet that she’s annoying pleasant and boring. Watching her is like listening to elevator music. H&B are both, way better with the other cast members than they are together. Thus far, H&B together is more or less the “old married couple” story lines – rehashed. Plus, (pre-Bernie) Howard was funnier than neutered, (post-Bernie) Howard. Anyway, I think the writers need to come up with new ways to set off Bernie – other than having Howard as child.
