Anomaly
This is absolutely true. L/P was set up to be a huge element of the show from about 30 seconds into the pilot. I also have always enjoyed watching the Leonard/Sheldon relationship. It's a very close friendship but you have to look past the fact that they seem to annoy one another all the time. Just because there was the possibility of one single relationship does not mean the show was about relationships. There has never been one show that didn't include some type of relationship aspect as any interaction constitutes a relationship, even if it was how one single character interacted with him/herself. TBBT has become too narrowly focused on the actual relationship aspects of characters that were built around not wanting or being able to have (romantic) relationships. Penny very easily could have remained the object of Leonard's desire without ever having become his girlfriend. IMHO, that would have made for a far better show in the long run. Guest DroneInTheSun
No one wants to see a guy pining and whining over a girl for eight years. And the show has always been about relationships. Wasn't Howard's lifelong obsession getting into girls' pants? Isn't Raj defined by his inability to talk to girls? Isn't Sheldon definied by his actual disdain of relationships? Anomaly
As I said, there are relationships in all shows. Unfortunately, relationships now define TBBT. Yes, Howard's obsession was getting into girls' pants. How he went about trying to accomplish that was what made him funny & interesting. Now that he is in a relationship, his character is boring, and extremely typical. And yes, Sheldon was (partly) defined by his view of relationships. Now that he is in one (as dysfunctional as it may be), his character is also becoming more typical. TBBT used to be about four geeks and their "hot" ungeeky next door neighbor. As you've said, it was about relationships... Many different relationships. Relationships at work, between the guys and their toys, the characters and their idiosyncrasies, the characters and the different people they were trying to have relationships with, etc, etc, etc. The overall story is now stagnant and the characters are being transformed into plain, run of the mill people. Everything that takes place on the show anymore is tied into the aspect of the relationships the guys are in. TBBT is now about one thing and one thing only. It has become boring, predictable and has been seen many, many, many times before. Edited April 26, 2013 by Anomaly

tmp
Bernadette is awesome! I hope she has more to say in the last few episodes of the season. I love Bernie/Melissa. The times I've seen Melissa in interviews, she's hilarious.
Berliner
Bernadette needs to take a back seat. She's responsible for domesticating Howard, who btw was never more boring this season. I liked her when she was Howard's on - off girlfriend, but now as a wife ... boring and plain (the story).
LoveShamy
I like Bernadette. I love it when her voice changes like when she said "YOU DON'T KNOW HIS LIFE!" when the girls where reading Thor. Most funny when she is angry

Thefeynman
Bernadette is an ok character. She seems realistic and believable and although her voice is annoying she is quite attractive. She is a demur character in the beginning and expands (not literally) with each few episodes. Although she can be quiet, she interjects her will at times and that little kid smile can mask a determined loud (Howard's Ma) person. One of my problems with this show centers around Berny. I find Bernadette's attraction to Howard to be one of those things that are so hard to believe it takes me out of the show. Why would a very intelligent, successful and beautiful woman like BR be attracted to Howard? It reminds me of Seinfeld where where Jerry was always dating gorgeous women. I know all about books and their covers, but Howard isn't a compelling read.
queuetee
I had less of a problem with Jerry dating all the women he did as he was attractive and successful in his show bus. career. I agree the H/B relationship is so hard to follow. He was obnoxious and self centered always, but that same behavior continues well into their marriage

I would never claim to understand what attracts women to men, but Jerry seemed to be average looking, sometimes funny and fairly successful but seemed to always get the top notch babes. George, to a lesser extent, also did better than you would expect. I agree with you though, the Howard and Bernadette relationship is more extreme and much more difficult to buy. djvang
I like her in small doses. As with Amy, the more she's on the screen the less I like her. They should be very secondary characters to the Original Five. Edited December 18, 2013 by djvang
funbus
i cant stand Bernadette, i hate her voice and the way she has changed Howard so much, he was much funnier in the early series, she's the only one of the cast i'd be happy to see go, but they'd have to kill her off so that they couldn't bring her back again! Yes, Bernadette should be killed off in the most disgusting way possible, and Howard should go back to the way he was and never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever change. Berliner
^ I wouldn't say Howard should have stayed the same 100%. But it all happened so fast, first the on-off relationship with Bernadette and then a short time later already the marriage. I really don't know what the writers were thinking. Howard had so much potential yet they decided to make him a backround character. Now he is trapped in this "prison" (I'm not calling a marriage a prison but we are talking about a sitcome here...) where his actions are very limited, thanks to his wife. It's actually very sad to see him like that.
queuetee
What makes Howard worse for me, is that he is trapped in the marriage, but his attraction for Raj comes out. Just a show or two ago, they mentioned Raj rubbing Howard's belly....yuk!! Why are the writers doing that??
ArmyGirl
Bernadette isn't a bad character it's the writers that used her to fill in for Howard's mother and since they want to keep the creepy mother/son jokes going Bernie gets caught up in the mix. Also Bernie is still dealing with a man that is stuck in his teenaged years. All of this in done in the name of a joke.
Lissie
First of all, I really don´t like Bernadette, well, I just said this so many times but I am here again because I have a question: could someone tell me why a young married couple without Children (or with) needs "tricks" from the husband for having sex and she reject him in so hard way? she is soooooo boring from the top to the feet

I think whether you like B as a character or not, she and Howie don't seem like a fit. In RL you would find Howard to be the sleaze and Bernadette to have a lot on the ball, but regardless how they can be a couple just isn't believable. Cecilia
I actually like Bernadette very much!! First of all Melissa does a very good job with her!! And Bernie is sweet and clever but she has guts. She is indeed funny when she is mad!!! And I love how she influenced Howard!! Pre-Bernie Howard was funny. He was sleazy but it was part of his character. But after some time it became a bit much and when ge stopped being sleazy and creepy his exceptional humor was even more evident!! Sometimes his need for a girl would smother his wit. I love them both!!!!!
Chiany
I liked the "old" Bernadette more then how she is now. That's why I was so happy to see her fake laugh is the last episode, a bit of the old Bernadette came back out. For instance, when she got her doctorate, at one time she used it to make fun of Howard. She used to have a mean streak in her, but now she has mellowed out since she's married. SRAM
Okay here is the thing, I have seen a big change in the Bernadette character, especially in seasons 6-8, and it makes me wonder. Bernadette was at first the mousy little cute Blonde that went on a blind date with Howard and fell in love with him, even though she was shocked by his past escapades. Now, especially the last two episodes, she seems to be a petite little hottie, that is seriously challenging Penny for being the hottest on the show. I mean come on, they wanted to do a sexy little spread of her in a magazine, Penny never got asked to do that. So my question is, does anyome else see them changing Bernadette and is it a plan to change the Howard and Bernadette relationship?
LittleMoth15
I love Bernadette but I'm not liking how harsh they're making her. To Howard, to Amy, in general....I'm wondering where the writers are going with her character.
