gaqo Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 I think this might be my definition, of a great character. Someone who one originally finds annoying, and clingy, but with a few tweaks, grows to be engaging and hilarious. It helps that behind the character, Mayim Bialik, is an intelligent and socially aware actress.
koops Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Interesting tidbit but I think it's all coincidental, since they didn't make Amy a neuroscientist until S4 (so after they named her). There were two brothers in the late 1800's who were leaders in the field of phrenology (what essentially was a misguided ancestor of neuroscience) who invented the famous china phrenology head (that Amy also has in her apartment... I always wanted one!) named Lorenzo Niles Fowler and Orson Squire Fowler. I just find it interesting that they are 3-name people with Fowler as a last name and were essentially old-school neuroscientists. I know Amy was made a neuroscientist because of Mayim but the coincidence is quite funny.

I supose that you could call them "scientists" but I find it difficult to think of anyone who believes they can dertermine someones future by feeling the bumps on their head as a "scientist". They were scam artisits.

They were scam artisits. Oh absolutely. (btw they didn't invent phrenology though, that was Gall). But back then they didn't know much better. The idea that different parts of the "head" serves different purposes though is still relatively valid, so while phrenology was way way off, the concept was the first concept of "neuroscience" we had. BespectacledBrunette Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 This is an incredibly random question, but does anyone happen to know / can identify what kind of car Amy drives? (I have a fanfic-related reason for asking.) Here's a clip where the exterior is shown.
Stephen Hawking Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 (edited) Looks like a VOLVO. Maybe an S40. Edited November 22, 2014 by Stephen Hawking

Stephen Hawking Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 You're welcome, but don't quote me on it. I could be wrong. Then again, don’t you think if I were wrong, I’d know it?
phantagrae Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Sounds good to me. Thank you! I'm absolutely terrible at car identification. In the end, I don't think the specifics matter as long as you're not too far afield, like having her drive a minibus or a Smart Car or something else other than a sedan. Stephen Hawking Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 Can anyone help me with where Amy works? I can't recall it. UCLA. And, for a brief period, Caltech.
Martin Pollard Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 And, for a brief period, Caltech. She could still be there. Remember the episode where Howard and Raj drop in on Amy and find out that Burt was hitting on her? Or the one where Raj goes to her lab regarding Emily? Both of those were during S7, as I recall. Has there been an episode since then that states she's working at UCLA (I might have missed it)? Kathy2611 Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 I think she's still at cal tech. When she was at UCLA, everyone came in from the right. Since she's been at cal tech, everyone comes in from the left and they still do. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

BigBangWeary Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Amy is fine as she is! Although the actress is attractive, Amy Farafowler the character is frump woman. She looks like the weird girl at the back of the classroom in junior high who'd pick her nose or pop her zits; the girl the rest of the girls tried to avoid. If she wants to spark Sheldon's comatose sex drive, girlfriend's gonna need to put on makeup, cut/perm her hair and go clothes shopping with her pals. :-)
rachelshamyfan Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 (edited) Sheldon is attracted to Amy's mind not how she looks and neither of them are ready for coitus yet and your comment possibly shows how shallow people can be that you can only be classed as attractive if you dress in skimpy clothes Give me strength Edited March 8, 2015 by rachelshamyfan
rachelshamyfan Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Nothing wrong with talking about when they will have coitus Amy is comfortable in her style and there is nothing wrong with that

"If you'll tell this to a girl, you can be sure to never, ever have a sex again...or see a daylight." But on the serious line I would honestly never, wanted to see this. I like Amy the way she is, not every woman has to be "prom queen" type of girl. She has a troubles with social situation, have sometimes wicked sense of humor, and a lot of quirks, but it's what make her character her. And there is a lot of people who like her for who she is. And for her physical appearance, even here on the forum are some male folks who find Amy attractive, as was said countless of times, there is lock for every key and beauty is always in the eyes of beholder. Amy's appearance is again part of her character and for me, she has her own innocent, subte kind of beauty. Franky if Sheldon - the most unique character was suddenly all over Amy for wearing short skirt, put tons of makeup on or whatever, it would be only disappointing for me. Amy is comfortable with her appearance, and Sheldon either never even hinted she should change, so why should she?
