Moonbase
Have you guys noticed that twice lately they've referred to Amy as a neuroscientist rather than a neurobiologist? I understand that one is a specialization of the other, but I wonder if they're doing it because Mayim is a neuroscientist. I hadn't noticed, do you recall when? Razberrypie
I hadn't noticed, do you recall when? Once in the latest episode when Amy and Bernie introduce themselves to the class on the phone and she says, "I'm Dr Fowler and I'm a Neuroscientist." but tmp will have to tell you the other time because I don't recall that one either. tmp
I hadn't noticed, do you recall when? The other was in the V-day ep. When Alex was presenting her gift options to Sheldon, she said she chose the third one because Amy is a neuroscientist.

Pomita
Yes, I noticed that in the last episode, because Amy said it herself. It struck me as a little odd, but then I thought maybe she's planning to branch out beyond monkeys and brain dissection. It's unlikely that they did that unintentionally, because Mayim herself would catch it.

tmp
A Neurobiologist is also a Neuroscientist, Neurobiology is a subdiscipline of Neuroscience. I know, I'm not saying it's an inconsistency. I'm just wondering if it's a calculated decision to open up some possibilities for plotlines for the character by making her more of a generalist. Yeah, I know you weren't saying it's an inconsistency, I was replying to people who thought it was I don't know that it's a conscious decision, they showed her doing/mentioning stuff that a neurobiologist wouldn't necessarily do before, so I think it's more to do with using the terms interchangeably and also because I get the feeling they mixed up neurobiologist and neuroscientist when they decided to give her the same field as Mayim. Berliner
Amy was lovely at the beginning (Season 4) but now she's just another girl which adds to the whole romcom transition. She's way too normal and needy for Sheldon. Edited March 30, 2013 by Berliner
Devashri
I absolutey loved Amy when she came out, just like the female version of sheldon. Their robotic relationship and ways to be bring thier "progeny" to the world through petri dishes was really amusing. Ever since the episode of "girls night out" all we can see is a sex starved horny Amy who wants nothing more than to engage sheldon in "coitus". Its a complete 180 degree turn in her personality and the writers have ruined her character. If at all sheldon and amy have sex, it would ruin sheldon's character. Initially what he stood for almost 5 seasons and made this show so special and unique was his asexual and robot like nature and him dedicated to science. If they make him normal the show would be another "FRIENDS".
koops
I might be pedantic about semantics but it really irks me when people talk about "ruining" a character. It's all subjective. I love both the robotic Amy and the newest Amy, the writers are simply telling a story with her of a nerdy girl coming out of her shell. You might not like the story they have chosen to tell and prefer the original version, it doesn't mean that the character has been "ruined". Same for Sheldon. Also, sex or no sex, if anyone thinks that all Amy wants out of Sheldon is sex, they haven't really been paying attention to the character or the relationship. If all Amy wanted was sex she would have dumped him a long time ago and satisfied her sexual needs with Stuart or what have you.

Sheldon liked her in the first place because she was just like him. Though I agree that her character in the beginning of the season 4 was a bit stiff but they should not have changed her completely. Since Season 4 sepisode 22 she completely changed getting obsessed with penny, making her uncomfortable made me cringe. She also constantly talked about how her "loins" were on fire thinking about sheldon .In season 5 episode 2 when penny brings a chair she finds on the road and sheldon asks amy to convince penny how unhygenic it is. In exchange she asks sheldon for kissing him where he had never been kissed before. This is a complete different Amy from earlier episodes of season 4 .Sheldon and amy used to discuss about the human mind when they spread the rumor about having "sex" and how she wanted to get her mother off her back by asking sheldon to speak with her on her laptop convincing her that he was having sex with her and had a boyfriend. Developing the character is alright, but suddenly changing her complete personality 180 degrees within two episodes is definitely "ruining the character" for me. Guest DroneInTheSun
Can we please stop portraying Amy as a sex-maniac who'll use every occasion to pounce on Sheldon, even without his consent? I think it's been made pretty clear that Amy doesn't want just sex, she wants intimacy. And when she does bring up the topic of sex (which she did only three times, by the way, once in The Infestation Hypothesis, once in The Date Night Variable and once in The Parking Spot Escalation) and he shows how uninterested he is, she drops the topic altogether. Yes, she talks about it to her girlfriends, but she also talks about getting married and living with him. She's not just the nympho you all seem to think she is. And Sheldon is not imune to sexual desires either. After all, it's "a cross we all must bear". Please stop implying that Amy's a kind of slut-bunny who changes people who don't want to be changed. If Sheldon does have sex with Amy someday, it'll be on his own free will. And he won't be "ruined". Sex doesn't ruin people (unless it's not consensual, but this is not where the Shamy is headed). You have to stop thinking just because Sheldon never had sex he's above everyone. He's really not, and if you take this idea far enough, you fell into pure slut shaming and I really have no time for this shit. /rant over Edited April 23, 2013 by LostInTheSun
rubyanjel
You keep on calling out people for defending a fictional character against all the bashing and ranting and saying they're getting so worked up over something not real, but then why get so offensive and upset that this character's getting "ruined"? How very ironic of you.
Guest DroneInTheSun
No, it will be because the writers decided he will. He's not real, you know. No, but it would ruin the TV character known as Sheldon Because everyone obviously knows that the best characters are those monolithic rocks that never ever evolve and that's why great storytellers never put their characters through great trials and changes because a reflection on life as we know it is not what literature and cinema is about at all. How could I forget that, dear Lord? I should know better, I mean guys like Shakespeare didn't make it into History at all. Seriously, give me a break. Guest DroneInTheSun
I'm making a point using a hyperbola. I bloody well know TBBT is no Shakespeare (there are not enough deaths to begin with), thank you very much. And if you're okay with having no character development and things being in an infinite, repetitive loop, then good for you. Stop moaning and go watch Seinfeld or the Simpsons, and don't rain on the parade of people who actually know good storytelling and believable characters when they see it, and who are actually happy to see Sheldon evolve. Let us ~ruin~ things in peace. xoxo
Guest DroneInTheSun
I'm not upset at all. The show could end tomorrow and it would have zero affect on my life. Can the hysterical over-emotional Shamy's say the same? Yes sure, let's resort to misogyny since our arguments are too hot for you to handle. Ty. Pi. Cal. She has changed because the producers/ writers may have thought that her early personality was downright unlikable. She was a female Shelton but with no charm at all. The robotic voice, the total lack of social skills and her strange interaction with the other two girls are almost cringe worthy now. Guest DroneInTheSun
This is the Amy thread and people were complaining that she's "ruining" Sheldon, and my point is that Sheldon is a character and bound to change. Because apparently people can't even discuss Amy for the character that she is by herself, she only ever has to be the slutbunny who turns Sheldon into an abomination or something. Tensor
have no idea what the % of men to women on this forum are. Does you have the stats? . It's really hilarious that you would ask someone for stats. I've asked you several times, in different threads, for you to provide some support for your contentions. Something you never provided. Now you demand someone else provide support? Can you say hypocritical? I knew you could.
