koops Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 No. In S5 she says she's been training in neurobiology for 12 years. Assuming that's from freshman year of college, she is probably 30-31ish in S6, unless she's skipped years.
rachelshamyfan Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 Has she mentioned leaving school early and going to college at an earlier age like Sheldon? I can't remember!
koops Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 No, she never mentioned anything. We do know that she's gone through all the educational steps though, in 5x08 she tells Penny and Bernadette it was like "middle school, high school, undergrad, grad school and that semester in Norway". Whether she skipped years during high school or college, it's never been stated.
Nerozette Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 I think that Amy's character has undergone a very implausible transformation. Appearing on the scene in episode twenty-three of season six, she stated that any physical contact from touching to and including intercourse are off the table; yet it seems she would without any objection succumb to her primal needs for a physical contact. I do enjoy her character, yet I find this baffling.
Midru Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Nerozette- Yes, it's one of those things. From her intro at the finale of S3 until late S4 (I think), she was just as cold, distant, and uninterested in sex/love as Sheldon. She was also not really nice to Penny. Then there was a big flip. She had some night out with Penny and Bernadette, and said "I have a feeling one of you will become my new best friend tonight." Very soon after that she glommed onto Penny and started with the creepy lesbian fantasies. I think it was a few eps later that she met Zack and discovered lust. Soon after that she began hounding Sheldon for sex. My read was that they couldn't keep her the way she was when we met her; they wanted more things for her character to do than be a XX replica of Sheldon. Regarding neurobiology, I could easily believe the 12 years started in grad school, making her about 34, which would match up with Sheldon (don't know why but I think the guys were all supposed to be about 27 in S1). Guest DroneInTheSun Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Amy is still very much against physical contact though. She broke the nose of a TSA agent because she was a little too handsy. Just because she's attracted to her boyfriend doesn't mean she suddenly wants to sleep with everyone. Not even Penny, as she clearly told her "please don't touch my breasts." Besides she warmed up to Penny in early S4, not late S4, and the Zach episode is 04x10.
queuetee Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 There has been a long stretch of time between telling Penny not to touch her breasts and her altercation with the TSA agent----Both had no interest in touching Amy so HER inappropriate response to both people tells us that she does still have some odd reactions to being touched. Since someone used the word "implausible" in describing the change in Amy, I also found P and B's friendship with Amy very strange. The shopping for bridal gown episode was on last night and why they wanted anything to do with her made no sense. ...never mind make her the maid of honor. rachelshamyfan Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Look at the love spell episode where she and Sheldon were doing the d&d roleplay, she was very nervous about what to say and I would say she is just as scared about actual coitus as Sheldon is, she might talk about it frequently but that doesn't mean she's ready

I would say that a lot of that is that she never had friends before she kinda invested herself into p & b's friendship and she pretty much had no filter to stop making comments to Penny and she became part of their little group so of course she was gutted they didn't take her shopping Edited June 8, 2013 by rachygd

Well that was a long while after they started hanging out with her. I think their friendship especially at the beginning was mostly P/B trying to be nice to her. I think in the sleepover episode they realized how lonely she had been in the past and they probably felt sorry for her and it just kind of evolved from there. Same way some people wonder why Leonard bothers with Sheldon. Neither of them really 'fit' with their respective friends if you look at it from a compatibility POV. But friendship can be more than that, thankfully. Edited June 8, 2013 by koops

That counts for a lot in friendships.

That counts for a lot in friendships. And I agree. But a lot of people say they don't get why Leonard wants anything to do with Sheldon. Especially since he has Howard and Raj to do all those things and he knew them before. The thing about friendship is that it's more than just what you have in common or what you don't have in common, that's what's nice about it. No, Sheldon and Leonard even started a sword collection together. They have things that bind them and us nerds, keep our nerd friends no matter how different they are. Its hard to find people into that stuff. I think the previous poster had a point. I have a hard time understanding why Bernadette made Amy her maid of honour. Those episodes were cringeworthy. The girls seem to be friends now but for a long time they felt completely forced.
Guest DroneInTheSun Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 "Us nerds". Nice assumption that you're the only one to know how it works here. Besides koops isn't disagreeing with you, I don't get what you're trying to do here?
koops Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 It's actually very easy to find people who are into that stuff nowadays. It's called the internet. LOL. I have made some great long-lasting friends to nerd out with this way

Leonard and Sheldon are both nerd culture freaks. They have something in common. I'm here asking what does Amy, have in common with Bernadette? Guest DroneInTheSun Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 They're both into science (Bernadette even states it as her #1 passion in The Closure Alternative), they're both brilliant, accomplished women, they both like literature, they are both really passionnate... Also there is not just one type of friendship. I have nothing in common with one of my best friends and the reason why we click so well is because we complete each other (that would be Penny and Amy's friendship)

They have something in common. I'm here asking what does Amy, have in common with Bernadette? I have met those people and I have gone to events and meetings with them. A couple of them became very good friends of mine in RL. At other times I much prefer talking to them online than meeting up people in RL. All I'm saying is that it's not the 80's anymore where meeting other nerds was that hard. But I also have friends I don't have common interests with but who engage me on an intellectual level. Amy and Bernadette, being both scientists, probably share that. I think it's pretty clear in episodes where it is shown that the main difference between them and Penny is "the smarts". They gave Amy a chance and something must have worked for them to hang out together. I don't think Amy and Bernadette make less sense than Bernadette and Penny. Amy is socially absurd but Penny isn't a smart cookie. Bernadette is the middle-man.
queuetee Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Science?? I don't think so. I have never heard them discuss their love of science. Actually, I don't think they discuss much except "girly" things. I remember the three girls sitting in Penny's bedroom and P was getting ready for a date with L. There was some concern about them getting back together and Amy mentioned the B and H could go out with her and S. B's face was so funny at the thought and she screamed for P. to put the attractive dress on. B and A have never had anything in common except Penny

In RL it's Amy that tells Penny they can double date and Bernadette asks "What about me and Howard?" and Amy goes "So insecure". In any case, we never hear the girls discuss much other than 'girly' things in general. But when the writers want to make the distinction they usually show A/B buddy up over their "smarts" or education (comic book episode, the paper they wrote for Penny, when they should respond to Penny's bitching during the Priya era and so on) and P/B buddy up over their social skills/girl-ness. Guest DroneInTheSun Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Except that Bernadette's reaction as you describe here was in Leonard's fantasy and that her actual reaction was that she was disappointed that Sheldon and Amy had never gone on a double date with Howard and her. youtried.jpg

rubyanjel Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 (edited) Apparently, we are thinking about different episodes No, you ARE all talking about the same episode. You really just got it wrong, honey. Bernadette just mentioned in 621 about how she fell in love with Microbiology while Penny was talking about Buffy. Penny even gets disappointed that Amy and Bernadette are both passionate about science while she doesn't even have anything to be passionate about.
