Jim Parsons

well, other articles say the film is based on the movie starred by Will Ferrell (and the Broadway play)... i hope they make some changes to adapt it to jim, oh well i personally don't like Will Ferrell's humor.... but i'm happy jim's doing stuff!

I think the story might work better as a stop motion musical along the lines of Rudolph than it did as a live action movie, I am not a fan of Will Ferrell either, but I am really looking forward to this and to hearing Jim Parsons sing again :)

Even if one is not a big Will Ferrel fan--and I like him in some stuff and hate him in other stuff--Elf is a great film, and really mostly unlike most of WF's other films.  And Bob Newhart and Ed Asner and James Caan were in it.  And Mary Steenburgen, I think...

Anyway, if it's going to be some kind of stop-motion animation thing, I think that could be really cute.  And I think Jim would have the perfect voice for such a thing.  He has denigrated his singing before, saying that he didn't think he could do anything that was supposed to be really romantic/beautiful or whatever, like he could do cute and funny, instead.  Well, then this might be perfect.

There's a little romance in the film, where WF and whoever the girl was (someone famous whose name escapes me now) sing a little duet of "Baby, It's Cold Outside", and I think Jim could easily do something like that--sweet and pretty without having to be some kind of opera singer.

I really like a lot of musicals, though I don't really know a lot of newer Broadway shows.  I grew up playing in the pit for the Albuquerque Civic Light Opera and we did 4 or 5 shows a year, but they were pretty much older musicals--Fiddler on the Roof, My Fair Lady, Oklahoma, Oliver, etc., and as an adult, I've played countless concert performances, with or without singers, of music from Cats, Phantom, Les Miserables, Wicked, and so forth.

I could totally dig Jim playing Buddy the Elf!!

yeah, jim singing... there's always the help of the equalizers-lol, i also think it sounds better as an animated movie ^^

I am trying to figure out when he had time to do this?  If it's airs in seven weeks it has to be in the post-production stage right?

maybe he did it, in those weeks he didn't post regularly... just a guess...

Well comedy is subjective, but I thought Will Ferrell's performance in Elf, like Jim Carrey's in The Grinch, was way over the top - I am imagining that Jim's performance will be a little more subtle, which will make this version more enjoyable for me - I hope it becomes a Christmas classic that airs every year. :)

I'd guess he did the voice acting during the Summer hiatus, but it takes so long to make animated shows and movies that it could have been a while ago.

Do you ever wonder if he's sitting on the toilet first thing in the morning, looking at IG and liking pics, before he goes to take the dogs out or do his morning jog or whatever?

Or is that just me...?

Phanta, I always imagine him waking up early and grabbing his iPad, Macbook Air or iPhone and perusing Instagram while he's still in bed .  If I happen to be on IG at the same time I look at it as my little way of being in bed with him (I'm sure he has a King sized bed, and I'm small, so I wouldn't be bothering Todd.).  :icon_redface::heat:

I think he has said that he keeps his phone and/or tablet beside the bed...

I don't think his singing voice is Amazing....., but it's not horrific.... Lol...... His singing in the previous episode was great compared to his nasally renditions of Soft Kitty in the earlier seasons..... Lol

I'd love to hear him actually sing as himself.  When he sings on TBBT, he is singing as Sheldon, with the character's tonality and mannerisms  and I would assume that for the ELF special, he will sing as he has decided that Buddy would sing.

I think the closest we've come to hearing him sing "as himself" was his SNL appearance, singing, "I'm Not That Guy".

I do wonder what Jim's personal taste in music includes.  I mean, he did do that one thing on the radio where he listed songs that were important to him kind of back in the day or at various points of his life or something, but I wonder where his tastes run nowadays and what he sounds like when he sings in the shower (if he does...) or when he's singing along in the car or whatever.

This is what I love about him that some casual viewers, or even moreso the "great unwashed", don't always understand.

He's not just Sheldon and he's not just playing himself.  While there's bound to be some overlap after so many years, the truth is that Jim is not Sheldon (and oh how I wish people on IG would stop calling him Sheldon...sigh...)

He's a well-trained thoughtful actor who doesn't take his craft lightly and doesn't just fudge or mug his way through a role--even, or maybe especially, Sheldon.  He seems to think deeply about his roles, who the character is, and all that, a lot of stuff that the audience may not realize.

But it's there in the way he discusses the play or movie or role, the way he seems to truly understand the role he's playing, not matter what it is.  Whether he's playing a guy who sees a 6-ft rabbit, a nerdy physicist, a gay rights activist, or a little purple alien (or who knows how many roles in theater back in the day), he takes it seriously and makes every role different.

Only one of the reasons I love this guy.

actually, if we take into consideration all the jobs he's been doing this past years, i think he is showing, slowly but steadily his versatility, i don't think he has done a character similar to Sheldon in any of his side projects thus far, and that says something.

I want to see him in a romantic movie too! even though i'm not a romantic type of person, but i kinda want to see him sharing a passionate, heated kiss on screen lol  oh TPTB please make it happen with Sheldon and Amy soon!

Jim loves to stand with his hands in his pockets--and that one pic of him from behind is somehow wonderful...

It is considered a bad habit in super-fancy circles, as I understand it.  Or it was at one time.  But he's so cute...

Todd seems to do that across the body thing a bit, holding his arm.  I wonder if he does that a lot in everyday life, or if he doesn't know where to put his hands at these kinds of functions.

Thanks for sharing, stardust!

I noticed that about him, too, the hands in the pockets thing; I like it!  It gives the impression that he's a very relaxed, easy going guy.   :)

That would be awesome to see him in a romantic movie, too!  I hadn't even thought of that until you mentioned it, but yes, of course, that would be sublime; in a romantic comedy, where he could be funny and romantic at the same time, or maybe a dramatic one.  Either way, I'm sure he'd be fantastic in it!

I think the Musical will be cute..... I'd watch anything Jim does anyway.... lol....... But I'm still not giving up my hope that he will one day do a romantic comedy....... Idc.... I wanna see it..... I wanna see it.... I wanna see it!

That would be cute, but you're right--anything he does, he's bound to be fantastic in it!  He's just a fabulous actor all around!   :)

He did a pretty good rendition of the song from Fiddler on the Roof in Season 1, The Grasshopper Experiment episode, and it wasn't too Sheldonian.  Of course, the character was suppose to be drunk at the time!  LOL!

I'm sure his doing roles quite different to Sheldon is intentional; he doesn't want to be typecast (more than he already is). He's seems well respected in these other roles which does indeed say something, as you point out.

I remember him saying, in response to a "typecasting" question, that all he can do is keep "getting into rooms and talking to people" and showing them the other things he's capable of.

I think he's said before that he's is kind of drawn to comedic roles, and I guess maybe he sees himself as more of a character actor than a leading man (they still tend to think that way in casting), but I think he's also done darker comedies and likes that edge as well.

I love that he's squeezing all these roles and projects in while he's still doing TBBT and showing not only his versatility, but his willingness to work.

I like that it also means that we get to see him in all kinds of things. Those with the ability to go to NYC can catch him in a play, others can go see him in person in LA, we can watch him in TV, or go see him in films or at least on DVD. It's always a Jimmypalooza!
