Jim Parsons

I had been meaning to ask: Did Jim major in drama and theater all the way through? And is that what his degree is in? I know he has talked about being in college theater and doing a performance for a thesis project so I am assuming so.

So actually Jim initially started off majoring in Television/Radio because I guess it was a safer route and then realized he wanted to pursue theater. Meteorology was a class he took in order to satisfy a science requirement his school had, which he failed because it didn't interest him enough.

I'm insane.

I think it's really sad that his father died before Jim really made it.

He's talked about wondering, I guess, if his parents would approve of such a major, and that his dad basically said to let him go ahead, and I guess it was also a big step for him to do the grad school program because his parents had to take out a loan, but then his dad died when Jim was in his last year, before he graduated.

It's just so sad that Jim was so young, but also that his dad didn't get to see all of Jim's success.

That's another reason why I love Jim's WDYTYA episode.  He equated his French ancestor's father with his own father--being essentially a working man whose son went on to make it big, if you will.

All that is a part of Jim's personal story that I love.

I also wish Jim could be on that Biography show.

His graduate degree is a Masters in Fine Arts (MFA - Classical Theatre).  His thesis was for this program.

It's an extremely selective program:

A joint venture of The Old Globe and the University of San Diego, the Master of Fine Arts in Theatre program nationally recruits seven students each year to participate in an intensive two-year, year-round course of graduate study in classical theatre.

Somehow that really pleases me. :)

Has he ever mentioned anyone he was in the program with who went on to make it in theater or TV/Film?

I wonder who else was recruited the year he was.  Of course, if they're in theater only, it's not likely I would have heard of them, I guess.

I believe he mentioned that if he wasn't an actor he would like to teach, this was during a Hollywood Reporter Emmy Roundtable a couple of years ago.  It was the one with Eric Stonestreet, Matthew Perry etc...

When I was looking for a description of his graduate program I came across this tidbit.  It's from an interview with Richard Seer, who was the director of the masters program when Jim was a student.  It is Seer's recollection of the night that Jim won his first Emmy, I thought it was very sweet...

What was your reaction when alumnus Jim Parsons won the Emmy for Lead Actor in a Comedy Series?

I was thrilled for him and sent him a congratulatory text message immediately. To my surprise, he replied with his thanks that evening, between the ceremony and the parties. Upon reflection, I probably shouldn't have been surprised because that's the guy I remember teaching - thoughtful, grounded and generous.

So! we have the SAG awards this sunday, right? i want him to take more pics but i should be accustomed now to his sporadic posts :( i don't think the mugshorts are going to make a reappearance anytime soon :(

actually i'm more excited to know if the cast will attend this year to the Sardi's event, and see what crazy thing they do. I don't know how Jim can top being sweet travestite ;)

Thanks, Vonmar. I always thought if I ever got a chance to ask Jim a question, this would be the one I'd ask. This info is the next best thing [emoji2].

I like, except for the cigarette. He looks so much better since he gave it up.

He posted awhile ago, but of Genie. Nice pic, but I want a selfie! How about one of him in sloppy clothes watching sports?

With stubble?

I agree with all the above! I think his eyes look amazing in this one though.

Genie is due on court at 8am UK time so I think Jim will be watching when it starts at midnight, he might do a happy face selfie if she wins
