This is some awesomeness! A little controversy is actually good. It gets people talking about you!

So far Jim never has answered questions to his religion or beliefs. I´m sure in the next future he has to answer some questions about that when he´s doing an interview. :icon_wink:

In that Pint of Milk interview he mentioned going to church and someone once said that his sister was married in a Lutheran church, so that might be his background, but I think that's about all that has ever been mentioned, AFAIK.

He used to think about Olivia Newton John on the way to church...

I wish I could go to see that play, that article just made me want to see it more. This coming from a lady who just got told at a grocery store parking lot that my liberal hippie bulls**t did not belong in my town (he was upset over some of my cars decals). Warms the cockles of my heart that he is rilling up some conservatives.

I believe his family is Lutheran.

I will admit, im not crazy with mocking God part. Im Christian but im also very liberal as well. Idk raised in a Christian home, we didn't test or mock God. Big no no.

Is there a way to read the play? Is there a movie?

I imagine the play will be available in written form after it's run on Broadway.  There is no movie, it is being adapted from a 2011 book:, The Last Testament: A Memoir By God which was written by David Javerbaum.  David is also God on Twitter (@TheTweetofGod) He is hilarious.

I just watched Jim's old clip on DP show from september last year, and when talking about Jim getting in some kind of trouble or being on the edge of something Jim says he'd " hear by the grace of God" (ok, I honestly don't know what that expression means, someone explain?) but its kind of ironic to the situation now xD

I think it really means that it's just by God's grace that you're in the good place you are, and not in some unfortunate situation.

People generally use the term when looking at someone else's unfortunate situation (homeless, addicted, whatever) and acknowledging that they themselves could easily be in that place if it weren't for God's grace and mercy: "There, but for the grace of God, go I"

This article made me so happy! First off, I love that Jim is in a little bit of controversy. He's by no means boring but it makes him a lot more intriguing to be associated with something that might offend others. Second of all, it"s really funny to me that these people take the play so seriously. I'm always amused when people get offended by something that is clearly supposed to be meant as a joke. It's true, Christians might not be the only group of people to view this as offensive, but something about a lot of Christians that I found very amusing is how they believe they have to suck up to G-d. Jews are taught that we are allowed to get angry at G-d from time to time. We are allowed to throw up our fists and stomp our feet and G-d can take it because he is after all better than us. He's a big boy who understands the faults of mankind. He can take what ever we hurl his way, even if it's a few jokes at his expense. Anyway, I don't mean to start a theological discussion, I just thought that was an interesting point. I'm very excited for this play and I say this as someone who unflinchingly believes in G-d.

I'm imagining that Act of God is a lot like the Book of Mormon play in terms of comedic satire. Full disclosure: (I was raised in the LDS/Mormon church (I renounced my membership at 19) I was not at all offended by it. I still occasionally listen to the soundtrack on Spotify. That being said, I think Jim's play is going to be edgy, tongue in cheek, and could certainly offend the more conservative types. Book of Mormon certainly pushed the envelope on "Thou shalt not take thy Lord's name in vain." That type of humor is vastly different than anything Jim has done before and it's not for everyone. On the other hand, it's great exposure for Jim and he'll almost certainly be in the running for aTony.

I live on the wrong coast and can't afford a cross country trip, otherwise I'd be there in a heartbeat. I hope that anyone from here that goes would be willing to give us a report.

Has anyone gone to a taping where it was a casts birthday?  And if so, have they ever went out and celebrated?  Cause now I'm wondering about this, and thinking it would be fun to yell out happy birthday Jim if you're planning on going to that taping.  That would be a fun dare.  :icon_mrgreen:

No idea what they meant with "strictly limited engagement", but we Europeans can only pray to God for it to mean he'll be done by the end of June, so he can come here. But thinking of the publicity this thing is currently getting I think we can assume it will go on for atleast a month.. but idk.

Guess we'll find out soon. Tickets will be on sale in mid February.

Speaking of adorable Jim, one thing I absolutely loved in Anxiety Optimization was when he asked the guys to harass him then got fed up and stomped off to his room, then came back to thank them--THAT LEG SWING!

Yes, I noticed that too. So cute  :icon_redface:
