Animated offering Home is where the hearth is at the Friday box office.

The music-infused family film will earn an estimated $13.5 million for the day, putting in on course for a strong $50 million-plus debut in a needed win for Jeffrey Katzenberg's DreamWorks Animation. Home will have no trouble trumping Get Hard, the new R-rated comedy starring Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart.  THR

I just got back as well and I really enjoyed it!

Since it was the last showing of the night, there wasn't a very big crowd there, maybe around 30 people, but the two screens for the 7 o'clock hour were sold out. Now, mind you, these theaters have fewer seats available because they went to these armchair seats that take up more room (but they're sooo comfy!), but still, sold out is sold out.

The only thing I missed was all that footage they used in the very early trailer, "Almost Home". It's weird, because it seems like they made that maybe before Jim got involved because it's basically all Steve Martin, and the little credits, if you watch it online, have Steve only, essentially. But then there's a different version of the trailer where Oh is talking about his mistakes and they do a quick montage of some of the failed planet choices, and it is implied that he's the one who made those suggestions.

Anyway, maybe it will be on the DVD.

I really did like all the nuances in Jim's voice work--and Rihanna's, too. And of course Steve Martin. And the audience tonight was almost all adults, with only about 6 or 8 kids in the crowd. :)

And I really wanted to cry toward the end.

I remember Jim talking how they would copy his gestures and his way of speaking and I noticed Oh at one point did that little hmph sound and made a crooked little smile/frown that Jim's does a lot!!

All in all, a very nice, fun movie with a sweet tone.

Do not eat the blue mints!

I covered from theQ&A with Tim Johnson at the screening I went to about that opening in my review.   Yes those scenes were eliminated...they changed the open at least 6 times or more and as a result a lot of changes were made from the concept video (which we saw in the Almost Home video) to what actually was released.   I hope that helps explain that for you.

Well I was sure that they had changed a lot of the film from what they initially recorded, and the trailers were composits of various bits, but I'm just saying I would have liked it if they could have worked some of that footage into the film, like when Oh was explaining how he'd made so many mistakes. But I understand how things get changed.

I loved the scene where oh confesses that he knows that his fellow Boov didn't really give him his name because they were his friends, or whatever the dialog is. Reminded me a bit of how Sheldon has said that he knows that he's difficult to live with. Poor babies! :p

The Talk interview was lovely. So many gems. Kelly Osbourne is without a doubt one of us. Jim always has such lovely words to say about Rihanna. I enjoy how generous he is with his compliments towards her. He also gave such a smart response when he was asked about the Get Hard controversy. And I couldn't agree more with what he said. I have always been of the opinion that one of the best ways to bring light to an important subject is to use humor. It makes discourse easier and it can be an excellent way to make a point. Jim is so eloquent and careful with his words. I like that. His mention of Todd had me over the moon.

I'm going to see Home today! So excited! I heard it was a really cute movie! Some people they even teared up a little. Lol. Wondering what all that's about, but don't spoil it for me! I'm going to see what they are talking about when I see the movie. :) Yayy! Also, as you can tell, I found out Home is playing at my theater! I guess it just took it awhile to show up. Lol.

Man! I want to see just Jim's part of the interview without watching the rest of it, too much cheering is off putting

"...and her little Martian friend..." ?!?!?! :icon_rolleyes:

Glad to see the lowball estimates were so wrong.

One of the comments on the article was from a mother who was surprised that her daughter and the daughters friends were all eager to see Home and hadn't mentioned Cinderella, even though the mother had bought her a Cinderella dress and "glass slippers". LOL!

Phantagrae, did you ever get your call rescheduled with the radio guy about the poem?

Nope. I have been waiting to get an email from them, but I wouldn't be surprised if they just dropped it as it's kind of old news now.

I heard the full interview the other day, and I kind of think they went on either this forum or the other because I think the guy mentioned looking on forums. He mentioned a post by silverangel, talking about a dream she'd had about Jim, and then he mentioned the poem.

We saw it today, I took my 7 and 8 year old and they loved it ! It was really really cute, very entertaining, the visuals were stunning, but the best part was Jim, I just love his voice. We lliked how Oh changed color when he had an emotion, we all found him to be sheldonesque but that is a compliment.
