The production budget was $135 Mil....but then there are distribution costs and marketing costs that need to be accounted for in addition to the production.  Typically they suggest filmmakers expect to recoup 2.5-3 times their production budget in order to call it "profitable".   They will be profitable and not have to do any write-down on the project, but where it will likely make the most money is in home viewing sales (DVDs, downloads, etc.).  Also those happy meal giveaways and other toys will bring in revenues as well because they get some kickback from all of those sales...that likely could more than recover their distribution costs and some of their marketing costs.  So I would definitely say that DreamWorks Animation is feeling real good about the film right now.

It is still the number four movie in the US Box Office...which is pretty amazing given it has been up against Furious 7, Age of Adeline and Mall Cop 2 (big teen favorite).  Next week Avengers: Age of Ultron comes out in the US (it is already released in many foreign markets) and that will take a lot of viewers away from Home, sadly.   It will likely slip down to below 5 but may still remain in the top 10.

Jim on the cover of "Time Out New York"

image.jpg

Time Out New York’s cover star this week may be our biggest get yet: God. Well, a guy playing him on Broadway, at least. Emmy-winner Jim Parsons heads to the Great White Way starting May 7 in An Act of God, a new play from David Javerbaum based on the popular Twitter account: @TheTweetOfGod. (Yes, you read that right. It’s a Broadway play based on a Twitter feed. In 2015, all the internet's a stage, too!)

The "Time Out NY" article:

Jim Parsons talks Twitter, God and acting on Broadway

Congratulations, Twitter, you’ve birthed your first Broadway show! The idea for An Act of God, a new play by former Daily Show head writer and current The Late Late Show with James Corden producer David Javerbaum, dates back to 2010, when the comedian launched his hilarious, foul-mouthed, eventually 1.9-million-follower-strong handle @TheTweetOfGod, which is exactly what it sounds like. Now, Javerbaum is bringing the Almighty One to the Great White Way, with The Big Bang Theory’s Jim Parsons, last seen on Broadway in Harvey, stepping into those made-of-clouds-and-dreams shoes and answering burning, age-old questions. Just before the comedy started rehearsals, the two (who have actually only met a few times) met up for a candid chat.

Adam Roberts, The Amateur Gourmet, cooked for Jim and Todd again...no pictures of them this time, but the food looked good!

Quick Queso with Chorizo (and Other Tex-Mex Delights)

Sometimes it’s nice to cook for friends who favor a particular cuisine because it steers you in a new direction. Normally, I default to European/Mediterranean things like pastas and chicken with couscous and preserved lemon and stuff like that. My friends Jim and Todd (you know them!) are Tex-Mex fans and so, when I cooked for them last week, I decided to pull The Homesick Texan Cookbook off the shelf to delight them with food that they love. Turns out, I love it too and now I have some new dishes up my sleeve to pull out at dinner parties. The one I’m most excited about? Queso with Chorizo (it’s in the title of the post, duh.)

I love chorizo...

And to go OT for a moment, why is it that my office has smelled all day like some icky combination of onion soup and BO?  I smelled it first when I got in the elevator this morning, and whatever it is, it seems to be on my floor somewhere.  I hope it dissipates overnight.  Phew!
