I think that one of the things that maybe made Lipton appreciate Jim so much is that he really is attuned to acting as a craft--the way he has talked in other interviews about how you just have to go in and do the role however you see it--like the story he's told about his HIMYM audition--how even if they give you some kind of character description that you feel you might not fit, that you should just do what you think you can do in that role and let them decide if they like it or whatever.

Oh, I didn't know that. Which character ?

Theaters production companies are going to protect their primary talent.  Jim is the reason people show up to this play to be honest...so of course they are going to make sure he is well protected.   They provide the body guards, just like they did when he was in Harvey.   They need to make sure that their talent are healthy and in good shape because they loose a lot of money if something happens to their talent.

From what I remember, there was one guy shadowing Jim. The others were mainly crowd and traffic control. They made sure everyone was off the street and behind the correct barrier, and that Jim's car could get through. So one guy for Jim's safety, the other two for ours. ;)

I'm phantagrae on IG--find me and I'll follow you! :)

Oh, I didn't know that. Which character ?

He auditioned for the role of Barney, who was described as "a big lug of a guy"... :p

They called him back twice, I think he said, as he was trying to get out of the building.  One time they wanted him to do it more like Alec Baldwin... :icon_eek:

And then they hired NPH, who is not "a big lug of a guy", which shows, as Jim said, that they don't really know what they want until you show them what you can do with the role. :)

Yes there was an actor that is the standby...but he is basically unheard of.  No one outside of New York has probably ever heard of the man, and he may not even be that well known in New York.   And to be honest, if he had to take over for Jim for more than a day or two, I am sure word would spread quick that Jim was not available and they would lose money.   It is not unheard of for studios and for theater companies to hire protection for A-list actors.   They are valuable to their productions.

While the standby is good for a moment's notice kind of stand in night, if someone were to truly harm Jim in any way that would require he be absent for more than a day, possibly two, the theatre would loose a lot of ticket sales because fans of Jim's come to see him, not the stand in.

I do agree that there is crowd control going on as well...but the primary purpose is to protect Jim.

Think about it...what if one of those Westboro Baptist folks came to NY...think they would think twice about harming Jim given how nutty they can be, not only about being gay, but also about being irreverent to who they claim to believe in?   They are just one group of nut cases out there.  Sadly the world is full of people that are willing to do horrible things.   So yes, Jim is being protected.  They know the stakes are high.

Someone posted a pic of Jim onstage (presumbly taken during the performance) and said, "I spent 90 minutes watching Jim parson (from the Big Bang Theory) take a crap on the bible as he played God in the Broadway show: Act of God"

Someone asked him whether or not he liked it, but the guy didn't reply.

Did he think he was going to church? :p

It is funny that all the people on the right are looking at their phones/photos and not still looking at the sight of Jim so close.

The bodyguard keeps trying to hurry Jim along. Nice view of the back ..rear..

just seeing how happy he is when signing speaks volumes about how much he enjoys doing the whole theatre gig...its really what he loves at heart :) i mean tv acting is great but it can be quite isolating when your working week in week out cooped up in the soundstage but with the theatre you get the whole energy and buzz and audience interaction every single day at work...must be so refreshing for him :)
