Stage vs. Screen: A Comparison of Acting Techniques

What do Julie Andrews, James Earl Jones, and Jim Parsons have in common? Besides names that start with J, these stars are among the many actors and actresses that enjoy successful careers both on stage and on screen. Although film acting differs from stage acting, practice can equip an actor to excel at both! Keep reading to explore the three main ways that film and stage acting differ, then learn a few ways to hone your skills in both areas!

I wanted to share this link, is not about Jim per se though, but is nice to see acting teachers have him as an example of a good performer. Is good too, for those who enjoy reading about acting as a form of art. :shy:

I love this article because when you read it, you see what an accomplished actor jim is. He is a very complete, talented actor. I will never get tired of noting that. And when i occasionally stumble into the "he is just playing himself!" Comment i feel so angry... Poor haters, they know nothing.

Don't they all get slimed? :)

The slime drops are random.

Jim presenting an award at the 2014 Kid's Choice Awards....we were convinced that he was nervously keeping his eye on his surroundings...

He was pretty squeamish about the slime when he was presenting someone with one of those little orange blimps, or whatever they are.  He had to touch some of the slime to get it or to read the winner or something like that.  He was touching things with his fingertips and all that.  Very cute.

Was the posting of script covers by lots of the cast organised do you think or are they excited by the 200th episode like us? Two instagrams by Jim in one day : )

Maybe both of them...The cast could have thought: "Wouldn't it be cool if all of us share photos of the script cover to celebrate the 200th episode?" ,  LOL!!! More seriously, for me is something organized at some level for advertising the event, but I'm sure all of them are genuinely excited for this big achievement of the show.

An interview with the director of "Visions"

http://www.blumhouse.com/2016/02/04/blumhouse-com-chats-with-visions-director-kevin-greutert/

BH: One of the most surprising casting choices was Jim Parsons who most folks know from BIG BANG THEORY. How did he become involved with the project, and why did you select him for this particular role?

KG: Jim plays a family doctor in VISIONS, and hopefully it’s not too much of a distraction to fans of BIG BANG to see him here – he has also done great work outside his TV show, and should be given more opportunities. I think he has a perfect “Fred Rogers” vibe on screen with Isla, so I was very happy to find he was interested in the film.

I actually loved the casting in Visions, you've got Jim Parsons and Eva Longoria who are both well known actors so the whole movie you're thinking it has to be one of them that is the bad guy otherwise why have a 'name' in that role. Very cleverly done I think :)

So good to see thus far all jim did, he did it with rave reviews, nominations and awards. 'cept for Visions that a lot of ppl say is horrible haha, but jim was sexy in it, so who cares lol By the way, here in the spanish-speaking portion of the world the movie is called Yo he visto al diablo, "i have seen the devil" which is lol ridiculous. Why can't they stick to Visiones (visions)?! This thing of chaging the name of a movie depending on the country is so weird... Never mind...

Is there any news if jim will be at the premiere night of AAOG tonight in L.A.?

I don't think so.is very  common to change the titles of the movie from English  to Spanish. Is like the distributors won't make a literal translation.. But i think the meaning gets lost... Is the way it is over here...

These weird translations happen in every language, I think. It's usually because the literal translation is not that "attractive" and the distributor changes it to something they think will sell the movie better; more people will be interested. I'm pissed almost every time I see the Czech title of a movie I've been looking forward to, they mess it up so much sometimes.

I'm italian and I loved the movie "Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind", which is a very beautiful and meaningful verse of poetry. You know how this movie arrived in Italy??? "If you leave me, I'll remove/delete you" which is a ridicolous title... oh, Italy... how much you shine for your poor sense of translation... Or when in tv spots they have to say the names of celebrities... No comment.

Has anyone figured out who the "bad" actor is that Jim Parsons is referring to that he has to work with because the TBBT show will not fire that person (between 1:19:00 and 1:24:00)?  He mentions the person was brought on, so I would hope it is not someone he pretends to like in interviews, and might even like as person, but might not like as an actor.  It is odd he asks the question, "Am I going to hell?" and mentions that the scenes could be better.  I have just never figured out who he is referring to.

Yeah, i thought about it too, but can't figure it out... Guess it was some of those guest scientist, maybe... I thought it could be the actor who plays Dale, but nah, the guy is actually quite funny and he appeared a couple of times, too... So, nope, i guess we'll never know hehe. As for the going to hell phrase, well, is a little rude to diss on a colleague like that and he knows it, that s why he said ut and whyhe wont say who was that person . :)

Ps: i LOOOOOVE this interview. My all-time favorite.

Another little thing: when he says the part about "if they are not goint to fire this person, then you work with them" and about the scenes, he is not talking about this "bad actor" he had to work with, he is answering to the question asked by one of the students.

I got the impression he was talking about a guest actor, not one of the regulars on the show.  I don't think the producers would have been that ignorant in casting the original characters.  Jim has always praised his colleagues on the show.

I think there have been weak guest actors and the regulars just have to make it work, as Jim says.

There's a thread about how to attend a TBBT taping and how to book a ticket, sure there somebody can answer your question.

No, you will get a confirmation and a full out printed ticket if you got it.  Make sure you say you want "1" ticket otherwise it won't take.  You have to specifically say "1" ticket.   You can refresh and put in your information again and make sure to put the 1 in there.   Eventually you will either get a ticket or keep getting an error.  By the way you do have to fill in all the information even if you just put a "0" in the address and phone line, but otherwise you have to have all the information filled in (except the Second address line).   YOu definitely have to have name filled out as on a government issued photo ID and your email address filled out and then you can put "0" in on the rest if you don't want to fill that out.   Just keep refreshing.  Set your browser to allow to auto populate and it will fill in the information immediately for you that you put in there before.   It makes things go faster.
