Is this a series or a movie?

Says movie....but I am intrigued by the fact he is going to be working with a bunch of little girls in this.  He generally is so against working with kids.   Should be interesting.   Sounds like it is family friendly though and that is  a wise move...it is likely to draw more audiences.  The producer he is working with is also on Fast 8m and worked on Furious 7, Fast & Furious 6, etc....quite a different kind of film, but someone with a lot of experience in the industry (huge film list of already produced films and very large list of projects in development). It will be good for Jim.  He will learn a lot from Neal.

Curious why he would want to learn Weibo.   It isn't something I can see him spending a lot of time keeping up with given his normal aversion to social media.

I'm thinking to connect with foreign fans on their network.  Coincides with the movie announcement. If he is going to be producing, he might feel that he needs to access consumers on all levels.  His Chinese fans on IG are losing their minds over it.

As for the movie, no director, no other casting...this is so in the development stage.  If it happens, I would bet that it doesn't film until summer 2017

Agree that this summer is going to be tough to pull together that quickly but not entirely undoable.   But he would have to have a lot of possible leads and interest by others already in place to pull that off.   Definitely more likely for 2017.

Yes I figured Weibo was likely to generate interest more for TWP by connecting with fans in China...but it also opens up a lot more money opportunities, especially because China is keen on supporting family-friendly films.  This one definitely fits the bill.

Glad to hear that Jim is getting into live action film! There is no chance that it'll film this summer though... No director and pre-production on a film takes time. I would imagine that they would be looking at Spring/summer 2017 to shoot. I guess a lot also depends on season 11... Nothing's been confirmed. Does Jim have the option to turn down season 11?

Yes. He has that option. But i dont see him doing it... He could, and i think nobody could blame him, but IF season 11 exists, is likely jim will do it.

From Deadline Hollywood:  http://deadline.com/2016/04/jim-parsons-hidden-figures-movie-big-bang-theory-1201729806/

Jim Parsons Joins Ted Melfi’s ‘Hidden Figures’ For Fox 2000

EXCLUSIVE: Jim Parsons has joined director Ted Melfi’s Hidden Figures, as the head engineer at the Space Task Group at NASA. Parsons is best known for his role as the geeky physicist Sheldon Cooper on The Big Bang Theory. The character he created, which is beloved by fans, has earned him four Lead Actor Emmys over the years.

Hidden Figures, however, is a serious turn for Parsons as the Fox 2000 film is about a team of unsung heroes in American history: African-American female math wizards who helped NASA win the space race. Octavia Spencer, Taraji P. Henson and Janelle Monae star as the trio of mathematicians who help out the space program. Parsons joins Kevin Costner and Kirsten Durst in the film, which also co-stars Glen Powell as astronaut John Glenn and House Of Cards’ Mahershala Ali as Henson’s love interest.

The project, which is underway, is expected in theaters next January. The film is an adaptation the Margot Lee Shetterly book and was optioned and developed by producer Donna Gigliotti, who is producing with Chernin Entertainment. The script is by Allison Schroeder.

Here's his project for this summer, I guess, and eventually the Man-Witch will be next summer project...I'm so happy he's going to be in two movies, it's a big leap forward in his career!

I don't think Jim knows how to take time off. Looks like a great story and he is playing an engineer:icon_wink:. Also want to read the book.

Peg, I just checked Amazon.  The book won't be out until Sept. 6, but it looks fascinating.  I wonder where the movie will be filmed?  I know Jim likes to spend time in New York, if he can.

no NY this year......booo!!  LOL

but interested to see what role he has in this movie.  Very intrigued about this topic.

A little more detail from The Hollywood Reporter: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/jim-parsons-joins-taraji-p-879905

Ted Melfi is directing Figures, which tells the untold story Katherine Johnson (Henson), Dorothy Vaughn (Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Monáe), brilliant African-American women working at NASA, who served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit.

"Parsons will play Paul Stafford, the head engineer of the NASA Space Task Group, reporting to Al Harrison (Costner). Stafford is used to being one of the smartest guys in the room but when Johnson joins the group, he must learn to put aside their racial and gender differences in service of a greater goal: to get Glenn into space and back."

Principal photography on the film began in early March 2016 in Atlanta, Georgia. Filming also took place at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics at Dobbins Air Reserve Base. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hidden_Figures

Lol what is happening. Jim is unusually active on Weibo (a microblogging website in China, sorta like Twitter or Tumblr). He posted four pics on it for the last two days, three of which he didn't even post on instagram...When was the last time Jim posted a BTS pic?

So he liked a post about the movie "Man-Witch". Maybe he created a weibo account to promote that movie? Well I have to say from what I read about it, it seems the movie is unlikely to be released or to be popular in China IMO.
