vonmar Posted May 12, 2018 Posted May 12, 2018 From Broadway World THE BOYS IN THE BAND Cancels Saturday Evening Performance; Will Resume on Monday The Boys in the Band has canceled its performance this evening. The show's Telecharge page states, "Due to a minor injury of a cast member, the Sat evening performance has been canceled. Performances will resume Monday night." <full article in the link>
kbp Posted May 12, 2018 Posted May 12, 2018 minor injury lets hope so thanks for that vonmar
Andy_90's_generation Posted May 13, 2018 Posted May 13, 2018 Ow, poor Jim. Probably the canceled performance hurts im more than the injury. I wonder, don't ensambles have some kind of sustitute for this kind of things or... maybe not so, when it's so sudden, i guess. The speculation online is that at this early in previews they might not be fully prepared to step in yet as they were focusing at fine tuning the main character roles. Andy_90's_generation Posted May 13, 2018 Posted May 13, 2018 it's weird, maybe those stairs need better ilumination, or something. But, accidents do happen. So this became news online? ouch, poor Jim. But, well, sh*t happens. Hope he's now comfy at his home with some nice pain meds
Jonny Posted May 13, 2018 Posted May 13, 2018 Some quite angry responses on Social media about it. Mainly about the lack of notice for people travelling and some comments that they should have used an understudy instead for the performance. I'm sure it will blow over and Jim will make a recovery soon if it's minor.
SpoonMouse Posted May 13, 2018 Posted May 13, 2018 Poor Jim, it's been a tough week for him what with his dog passing away and now this injury. Hope he makes a speedy recovery.
cassidyeden Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 (edited) Aww.:( Jim has had it rough.:( His dog has passed away and now he’s injured.:( Hope things get better for him soon. My name is Cassidy and my dream is to meet Jim one day. It’s impossible because I’m from Mississippi. He’s mostly in LA or New York.:( So far.:( I’m a Southern gal.;) Haha. I know Jim is from Houston, Texas so he is from the South like me. Lol. Jim is so sweet and so caring. I think I would be so star struck if I ever met him. He only has Instagram but he never replies to anyone on there especially on private message.:( I wish I could contact him on there but there’s millions of fans who try to contact him on there so that’s not happening. I have a rare genetic disorder called Turner Syndrome and a mild form of autism called Asperger’s Syndrome. I know there has been discussion before about Sheldon having Asperger’s and I think it’s cool that the writers decided not to label Sheldon with Asperger’s because Sheldon doesn’t have to be defined by anything. Though, Sheldon does remind me a lot of myself and my quirks. Lol. Jim is so amazing and I love his portrayal of Sheldon. The Big Bang Theory is my favorite show obviously!❤️❤️❤️ Edited May 14, 2018 by cassidyeden

vonmar Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 A little more clarification from Broadway World on why TBITB was cancelled on Saturday rather than having an understudy go on for Jim. In the preview period they are fine tuning the play, script, blocking lighting etc. Once they are happy with it, they "freeze" the play...they nail down the final product that they will perform on opening night and through the rest of the shows run. Once the show is " frozen" they will rehearse the understudies to step into the polished show, if necessary Even though understudies were cast, they were unprepared to appear on stage at this point in time. vonmar Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 Broadway grosses for week two of TBITB were under a million due to the fact that they only had 7 shows instead of their scheduled 8. "The Boys in the Band, which opens May 31, saw its grosses dip to $877,471 from $1 million the previous week after a minor injury to star Jim Parsons during the curtain call forcing the cancellation of one preview performance. A rep from the show confirmed that the show’s run of previews would resume Monday, as announced." Source Deadline Hollywood

Andy_90's_generation Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 I didn't know such a thing as a Broadway message board existed, so, i was curious and looked at out... Some are saying an understudy will perform tonight, others say nothing is being confirmed yet... Honestly, seems to be quite a mess. I feel a bit bad that, incidentally, Jim is involved in all this. What a shitty week it was for him

I grew up in NYC and thanks to my arts loving mom got to see a ton of Broadway and Off-Broadway plays. Even though I don't live there anymore I am still a huge fan of NYC plays/musicals. I started following the BW message board several years ago. It's very lightly moderated and massive fights can break out (which can be amusing) and you can get a lot of misinformation from "armchair experts" but there is also some really good info and insights into the industry, so I take everything I read there with a grain of salt. That's the feeling i got while reading. Not to say, the level of snobbism and being a fan of this name or that name takes (in some ppl) to be really rude to an actor. While it's all about tastes and a person can have favourites, i really dislike some inconsiderate words i read there. Anyway, i killed my curiousity and that's that haha. It sounds like an active role with lots of moving around the stage and stair climbing.
Soopysue Posted May 15, 2018 Posted May 15, 2018 Did you guys get to watch the today show ? I'm in Scotland so obviously can't watch ! Just wondered if Jim was there or if they mentioned his injury ? I read on IG he apparently has a small fracture - but can't find anything about that online myself so I'm not sure whether or not that's correct - poor Jim ! Andy_90's_generation Posted May 15, 2018 Posted May 15, 2018 Maybe he resented that fracture he had in his toe some time ago. Don't remember when it was but he was wearing a cast. Get well soon, Jim!!!

I think it was towards the end of TBBT S 10, he had a very fast recovery back then, he didn't ever wore the cast during any taping, hopefully this wiII be the case too!
