Lovely GrokNation post from Mayim about Kunal's book...I adore how supportive this cast is of each other's non-TBBT projects

YES, MY ACCENT IS REAL

Why you should read my friend/co-worker Kunal Nayyar's book

My friend and co-worker Kunal Nayyar has written a book. It comes out Tuesday. It’s called, Yes, My Accent is Real: And Some Other Things I Haven’t Told You. Here’s why I think you should purchase it.

  1. 1.It’s funny. Kunal has a terrific sense of humor, which he conveys really well in writing. Some people are funny in person. Some people are funny in writing. Kunal is funny in both. It’s a wonderful read.
  2. 2.It’s educational. You learn a lot about South Asian culture from this book: about cultural differences and expectations, about being an immigrant and about fitting in. It’s got some really neat learning opportunities for the reader.
  3. 3.It’s got great stories. Kunal is a great storyteller and tells stories about our work, about his life, about his schooling – about everything. You will really enjoy this experience and the stories he tells.
  4. 4.It’s smart. Kunal is known on our set as wise and gentle and kind. He is all of those things times a thousand, and this book really conveys that. He has musings throughout the book which are touching and insightful and which really hit the mark of a lot of what many of us are feeling about life. We want to be good. We want to do good and connect with others and be loving. Kunal gets all of that. He’s a wonderful voice.

There are so many books out there and I know it can be overwhelming to know which ones to read. I give my enthusiastic vote to Yes, My Accent is RealOrder it today. You’ll be glad you did!

Just got back from the Kunal signing here at Book Revue on LI.  Kunal was as charming & funny as ever.  He did a majority of Q & As and I figured some might be interested (some we already knew, just recapping everything on what I remember from the Q&A.  It was mainly just Q&As which was awesome!).  He was perfect, got my question answered about hosting the Late, Late Show, me & Mamalama got interviewed by our local news here on LI, it was epic!!

1. His most memorable on-screen moments are the Leonard Nemoy Napkin scene with Sheldon & Penny because it showed the robot has a heart.  And the Shamy ILY because he feels they are so delicate and special and its so much for the Sheldon character.

2 Most memorable off-screen is Ping-Pong which they can no longer due as WB removed it.

3. They do not take any suggestions from the cast.  In the beginning they did but when he tried his joke it flopped on the live audience.

4. Favorite Raj moment is episode 8 when he drinks his first grasshopper & speaks to Penny for the first time.  Hates the taste of the grasshopper as its food coloring, water, and cream.

5. Enjoyed hosting Late, Late Show but wants to pursue more acting post-BBT

6. Joked that Emily scares the hell out of Raj (what will she do to him)

7. Has very supportive parents which isn't the norm for his traditional family

8. Spoke very sweet & candid about Carol Ann.  Made fun of her chatter, and she loved when he would drive her reve'd his engine for her.

9. His publicist looks just like Mayim.  He they segwayed into the FanFic ComiCon Story

10. Appreciates the fans a lot.  Started out as his opening

11. A young very excited teen boy presented him with a script idea for a BBT episode and Kunal was nice & took it

12. They rarely do off-set stuff, if so on the WB lot.

13. Didn't know that TV's Blossom would end up on the show.

If I think of anything else, I'll add it.  He was so sweet and addressed everyone by their first name when signing!  So adorable!!  pics on my social media outlets & video.

No...his PR firm is a different firm than Jim's so no, he has a different publicist.  Her name is also different from the two that Jim has on board.

Hey, I heard about the signing and he was suppose to attend one in LA tomorrow but I checked the barnes and noble website and for some reason it's no longer listed.  It makes me wonder if it got cancelled.  Anybody know?

He is still scheduled to be there (it is in their event voice recording).   You have to purchase a book after 9 AM on Sunday, Sept 20 (tomorrow) to get a wrist band which is required for the book signing.  Guess you are not allowed to bring a previously purchased book unless you purchased from them, they may honor the receipt.

The event is at 4 PM: Barnes & Noble Booksellers
189 The Grove Drive Suite K 30
Los Angeles, CA 90036
323-525-0270

Kunal was also on HuffPost Live last evening.  See more

Went to his book signing in New York last week ("Yes, The Accent Is Real"). Great guy, very down to earth. Both of us went to Temple University, both came to the US in 1999, and both draw attention to our (ever diminishing) accents.
