You know at this point in season 8, I really think that Mayim was taken advantage of in the contract negotiations. She seems to have almost as much scene time as Kaley, yet she is paid over ten times less. I think I could safely say Amy is just as an important character as Penny this season too. It makes Jim, Johnny and Kaley look overpaid or Mayim look extremely underpaid or cheated to me.

I think it has a lot more to do with seniority, lead/supporting, and all that than it does scene time.  Mayim and the others are likely never going to catch up to the "Big 3" in terms of salary, not matter how many scenes they might do in a particular season.  Amy, Bernie, are always going to be in that supporting character category (and I think Howard and Raj are as well), and are never going to have the prominence--or the pay--that the others do, even though Amy is attached to Sheldon.

Though they are contracted now to be in every episode, just like the 3, an episode can still be done with only one or two scenes with the supporting characters.  Though Mayim's character has had a lot of important influence on Jim's character, they can still do episodes where Amy is barely there but they'll never do episodes where Sheldon--or Leonard and Penny--aren't really there (unless there's some kind of special circumstance.)

Mayim's salary--and that of the Big 3--depends a great deal on what kind of prominence the actors seem to have on the show, but also on their agents' negotiating skills and how their roles are seen on the show, not just on how many scenes they're in.

Is the bashing and name calling really necessary? I mean none of us really know the nitty gritty of the negotiations, nor are we ever likely to find out. I hope that if there is an 11th season, the cast negotiates together ala Friends. Mayim, Melissa, Simon and Kunal work just as hard as the "big 3" and deserve to be equally compensated.

wait wait wait!  so based on this, if the show has season 11, what about Mayim and Melissa? umm i'm lost...

I think that if the show goes to S11, Mayim and Melissa would have to renegotiate because I don't think their contracts have that same clause.  I don't remember about Simon and Kunal.

I just don't get one thing. Mayim and Melissa signed their contracts back in September 2013, right? So how can they have a three year contract if the show was renewed for another 3 seasons after their negotiations, in March 2014? I'm probably just missing something, so if anyone could explain this to me, I would really appreciate it.

Different actors can have their contracts renewed for different lengths of time.  So, if M&M's contracts were for, say, 2 years, then they will have to renegotiate for that last season, or whatever.

This happened on The X-Files.  David Duchovny was contracted through S7, Gillian Anderson was contracted through S8 because of some negotiations she had gone through earlier.  I don't remember if it was higher pay or some other issue, but in order for FOX to agree to whatever it was she wanted, she had to agree to doing an 8th season.

So, when DD and Chris Carter (whose contract also ended with S7) were ready to call it quits, FOX wasn't ready with another show to take the place of TXF and decided they'd keep doing the show, with or without DD and CC.  They had GA under contract for that 8th season.

So, likewise, since M&M came on later and their contracts were negotiated separately, the three-season (plus potential S11) deal wasn't yet in place.  I think that it's all a matter of bargaining chips, lead/supporting, and all other kinds of things.

Anyway, their contracts are different.

That's what I thought. But could Mayim and Melissa sign a contract for 2 years in Sept 2013 (so for seasons 7 and 8 ) when, at that time, the show wasn't even confirmed for season 8? I know it was highly unlikely they would cancel the show after season 7, but still... I'm probably just overthinking this (which is simply my thing, I'm sorry for that, lol).

Anyway, thanks for the answer!
