How many ways can a person say "okay" and put a different meaning to each? He's great. At dinner in Penny's apartment, I liked Leonard's nonchalant shrug when Penny implyed that he's still uncool, as if to say, "Yeah, I'm king of the nerds, baby, deal with it!" I also liked Penny's reaction when Leonard said he would *never* propose to her again - "Are you breaking up with me?!" Would serve her right if he did, but we all know that won't happen. Raj's speech at the party was sweet, and I didn't like his "losers" comment. Sheldon was a selfish jerk for keeping that drawing. Leonard + Penny Posted February 15, 2013 Share Posted February 15, 2013 The end of it is the good part You win. 95% of the episode was TERRIBLE. The only thing I liked prior to the last 5 minutes was Howard and Bernadette bitching over the XBOX. Penny was so self absorbed. I can get being distraught but at the same time...the dope cheated on you. Maybe it's just me but I wuldn't care at that point. He cheated on me, screw him so to speak. She basically ignored Leonard and made him feel like a silver medal. I'm glad Leonard spoke his mind, in seasons past he would have gone into HIS apartment and gone to bed leaving the situation alone and then they would have met up the next day doing laundry or something and then pull a sappy bit and go assbackwards. She really has major issues if she thinks the geeky guy wearing glasses would cheat on his hot blonde girlfriend. Leonard probably couldn't do better in the looks department. I haven't caught all of the episodes this season, but most of the ones I've seen were okay. I cannot say the same for this one. A) Sheldon will never become normal. Period. B ) The people who the writers are appealing to are not "very lonely women" and to deem them as such is a wild generalization and more offensive than what you seem to think the writers are being right now. Most of my friends are enjoying the direction of the show and many of them are very happily married or in a relationship. So please, let's keep any criticism about the show exactly to that, and not about the people who watch it. So much so, that at the end of the episode when she asked Leonard if he was breaking up with her, I was hoping that he would say "yes", then walk out the door. She had to be aware that he made allot of effort for the evening and she went out of her way to make him feel that he was at best her 2nd choice. I was glad to see him jump on her about it, and I do think that it was a step forward in their relationship when she admitted to him her insecurities in their relationship, although I failed see how they were related to her actions. Last week she is mad because they can't move in together and this week she is doing cartwheels over being made his emergency contact. Last week he understood what moving in together would mean in their relationship but this week he doesn't get when your GF offers you everything you want you should push back and make sure VD is about what she wants too. He even kept the gift she probably would have wanted. It is nice that Leonard stood up to Penny but in the end she still has all of the power in the relationship. It is not fair that Leonard has to continue to pay for her previous bad decisions. If she truly loves Leonard it is no longer acceptable for her to have commitment issues. It certainly would not be okay if she were a guy. I can't decide which is more screwed up. Howard continuing to look for his Xbox when the laundry still hadn't been done or Bernadette for treating Howard like her kid instead of her husband. On the low side, i didn't care for the three comic book store scenes. The H&R "okay" bit is old and antiquated. Raj's speech at the end was a bit winded. In the same vien as A&P, the R&S bromance stuff doesn't work and elevating it just makes it worse. Enough already. On the positive side, is Raj finally getting a girlfriend? Alex was great and gells very well with Sheldon. I really like her deer in the headlight facial expressions and wouldn't mind seeing her as a recurring character. It was nice to see Bernie mad & pissed off. Alway thought "badass" Bernie was funnier and much more entertaining than the normal, annoyingly pleasant version. It would be nice for the writers to come up with other ways...beside Howard to set Bernie off. Penny being a bitch was a bit forced and over the top. I think it would have played out better for Penny to be upset that Grechin stole her boyfriend as opposed to her boyfriend cheating on her. On a side note, Kaley are her sis looks very different. Anyway, it was an obvious set up for another Lenny win. Leonard rocked throughout the episode. I liked the ninja thing, his proposal requirements, and standing up to Penny was big. Penny saying things are really good, she's happy, and admitting she has commitment issues is another big growth step. Plus, being scared that Leonard that was breaking up with her and foresees them getting married is major. Amy rocked, Shamy was filled with a lot of ahhh moments. I though Amy's passive approach ( like Mario brothers dinner episode), Sheldon's "stop ruining my valentines day and order my pizza line was cute. Leonard barely gets out of his chair before she tells him to get up. Which is totally fine, I thought it would have been horrible if Leonard had actually attempted to propose. I think this may have had to do with the sides. In the sides for the restaurant scene, he actually does get down on his knee before she tells him to get up. And there seemed to be something different about the H/B argument and there was a different tag--with apparently L/P leaving the restaurant and H/B staying and eating dinner and dessert on Leonard's dime. I thought it was a very apt, very sweet Valentine's episode, definitely better than TLHC. The mirror parallel between Leonard/Penny and Howard/Bernie, in the beginning and end of their double date, was rather interesting. It reflected well how married couples tend to bicker, but can end up realizing that their issues are everyday and not as serious as those who are still in the process of committing. I totally admired Leonard's behavior throughout their storyline. He sincerely tried to give her a great V-day, and then stood up firmly for himself when it became clear that Penny was messing up because of her own issues. We've seldom seen Leonard as direct with her as this - 'glaringly obvious' - way to go! The arrangement of Penny being the one to propose was a very nice resolution; and I liked Penny's scared reaction when she thought he was breaking up with her. The 'singles party' was a nice touch. Raj's speech got a few claps from me; and I'm extremely curious to see how Raj/Lucy plays out. (Saying any more would be spoilerish). I wish he hadn''t topped it with saying 'losers', though I get it was the funny tag of the scene. Also, the way he stumbled a little over his words when asking her out was remarkably well done. Good for Kunal! I thought Sheldon and Alex had some great comedic chemistry going on. Someone (Spook?) pointed out that Sheldon seemed OOC when talking to her; while I didn't find it exactly OOC, I did think he was being more 'consciously' cocky than he usually is. I thought it was a combination of his getting a bit too condescending because he has a 'sidekick' for the first time, and his feeling triumphant and upbeat about his relationship with Amy in general (eyebrow raise when he says 'girlfriend'). As for the Sheldon/Amy scene.. I'm feeling too much emotion about it right now to be able to comment. I'm just tangled up in an overwhelming sense of perfection. Will be able to say anything coherent only after sleeping on it, I think (and will restrict myself to the Shamy thread). I don't even mind that he didn't hug her back properly because there was just so much heart to the whole event.. to what she did for him, and what he did for her, and what it meant for each of them. Right now I'm busy cracking up with the tag. That was such a brilliant ending. Every line sends me in splits - 'how exactly does a bump feel Asian?' to 'brain tumor would explain a lot'. I think they made penny off to be a little too nonchalant about the whole valentines day thing in the opening scene but the rest of it was phenomenal. Lots of humor, good romance, and some new insight Really liked the way the Lenny story went, can't wait to see penny propose, I'm still hoping she uses a green lantern ring or a one ring replica haha Also I think Alex's line "I don't know how to respond to that" after Sheldon commented on her map idea was one of the funniest moments in bbt history Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It looks like Penny and Leonard relationship status has moved to more commited state with this episode...this whole season arc of Penny's feeling on Leonard .. thinking about break-up , realizing depth of her feelings when Alex hits on him , taking interest in his work , his interests and now she admits she can see them getting married shows that.....yeah last episode shows that it is still long way , but they seem to be happy , the ending scene with these two where Leonard realizes that Penny is very happy with where they are was pretty sweet and funny..... Leonard's growing confidence was pretty amusing.... Sheldon and Amy also moved their relationship forward...just the fact that he was willing to buy a gift for her should say something .....and the emergency contact was pretty good as was her tearful reaction to it..... I liked the way Howard and Bernadette's simple and silly plot was resolved when they saw Penny and Leonard bickering seriously. Raj stuff was ok...Alex was good with her gifts and her reactions... I did'nt understand what the writers were trying to say when Sheldon handed about 2000$ to Alex for buying gift to Amy..... we have seen Sheldon to be careful or possessive at-least with his money before in this series .... was this a lame joke that Sheldon does not understand the value of money.... or telling us that he was willing pay any amount of money necessary to keep Amy quiet.....and it was lame that Sheldon does'nt know exactly how much money he has kept in his pocket and drawers given his eidetic memory.... In the tag scene it looked like Amy was Sheldon's mother... A little bit more about why Penny has commitment issues would have been better... Who knows how much he spent on that tiara--it seems like he doesn't care about the amount as long as he's buying what he thinks is right. And since he didn't have a specific item in mind, handing over a wad of cash enabled Alex to buy whatever she thought would be good--or in this case, a few options to choose from (and probably a frozen yogurt for herself!) About the amount, he may have just been generalizing, like "it's about $2000" as in it's really $2003 or $1999 or whatever. In the end I don't think that was an important detail. Martian Girl Posted February 16, 2013 Share Posted February 16, 2013 I liked the episode, with all the misunderstandings between the characters - especially Howard and Bernadette: if she knew he spent 12 hours working on his Valentine gift to her, she wouldn't be mad at him for the laundry. I don't know why everyone is angry at Penny's behaviour. Imagine you go to the restaurant with your boyfriend (who is being a little annoying with his ongoing romance ninja joke) and a pair of married friends (and you're not too enthusiastic about romantic evenings to begin with), then your friends begin to quarrel about an Xbox and THEN you see your former boyfriend proposing to your former friend. That's just too much to take. And if the idea of marriage scares her now, what was she supposed to tell Leonard? Surely "The idea of marriage scares me now" seems better than "Sure, let's marry tomorrow". Sheldon behaved jerkishly, but it's not his fault, he just can't help being Sheldon. However, I just pity Alex - she could work in Fermilab, but she thought being Sheldon's assistant will serve her scientific development better. Well... I liked the introduction of Lucy, and I'm curious about the development of her relation with Raj. It would be nice if she turned out to be much into fantasy/SF and less into science, as that would make her an exception among the girls in the show. I have seen a couple female posters (least I think they are due to their callsigns) who claim people are too tough on Penny, due to anyone would be upset seeing one of their exs in restaurant, proposing. Well if they had just had her go “Crap, there is so and so with that tramp” and left it there, but they had the character go way beyond that. By the end of the restaurant scene Penny was sending out the strong signals she still had feelings for the dude and Lenard was a consolation prize. Nobody, guy or girl wants to be viewed as a consolation prize. I am willing to bet money if they had reversed the roles and Lenard had treated Penny in such a bad way, the people defending Penny would be calling for her to rip Lenard a new one or even dump him. Sorry Penny did act like a bitch in this episode, and if they had reversed the sexes I wouldn’t have any issue saying Lenard was a jerk. They did end it on a high note though, I liked that Lenard stood up for himself and that Penny admitted she was wrong. Plus I have to admit I liked Lenard’s romance ninja routine. Howard and Bernadette’s argument was amusing, although I felt a bit bad for Howard; he actually put some effort into trying to get he a really nice gift. But those are the type of arguments any couple will have from time to time. The Amy and Sheldon thing was funny, and you had to feel sorry for Alex. As for the comic book store party, it really didn’t have much going for it in my opinion. I know some were happy Raj got a date, but his “Losers” comment ruined it in my opinion. It kind of highlighted that Raj behind his sweet mask is kind of scum bag. But the episode had funny parts and was good. phantagrae Posted February 16, 2013 Share Posted February 16, 2013 I don't think Penny still wanted her ex, but I do think that Leonard was right to call her on her responses and tell her that it was hard not to take it personally. Her reaction reminded me of the movie "When Harry Met Sally"--when Sally (Meg Ryan) finds out that her ex is getting married. She gets upset, not because she wants her ex back, but because while they were together he hadn't wanted to get married and she had thought she didn't either, and that it was all about being free, etc. But when she finds out that her ex is getting married she says that it wasn't that he didn't want to get married, but that he didn't want to marry her. So that made her feel like crap. While it's not a direct parallel, in this case I think it's still kind of understandable based on Penny's line--"They're bad people, it's not supposed to end happily for them. It's supposed to end happily for me." Though she misses the implication of her statement, I think this is the main thing that bothers her--that these two people who betrayed her and getting their happy ending. She doesn't want him back, she just doesn't want to see him happy. If she had seen them on any other day, or under different circumstances, she probably wouldn't have fixated on it so much, but given the day and the circumstances, and the fact that they were right there in her line of sight, just made it that much harder for her to let it go. mjc45 Posted February 16, 2013 Share Posted February 16, 2013 very good+ penny and the commitment issues just like living together last week. glad leonard call her out four it. it was the second time she asked if they breaking up.glad to see that they are talking about it, could tear apart they relations. i could see alex staying around to push more buttons with the in insecurites of penny. raj-great speech-- then go off with a girl (kate). howard/bernie-could see bernie mad working 17 hours. howard did not do the house work,but playing x-box shammy--very sweet amy wanted to stay in to be with sheldon. Leonard and Penny were unpleasant to watch, while Bernie and Howard were depressing; she's the mother and he's her child..... The writers are knee-deep in romcon territory. Remember when Valentine's day was about going to the Hadron Collider and Sheldon's powerpoint; good times. The comic book store was a bit of a leavener, it was nice to see Dale, though he didn't do much. Raj's speech was blah but then meeting the new girl and dumping everyone was a total plus. Amy & Sheldon having a pizza reminded me of the old scenes of the guys eating takeout, Sheldon being uber germophobic,*sigh*; those days are gone.
