Guest I'm not dead Cheryl Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 (edited) If Penny wasn't offended by Sheldon's remarks, I'm not sure why anyone here feels they ought to be offended on her behalf. I'm so glad I'm not the only person who didn't think Amy's scenes were side-splittingly hilarious. The monkey bit's old, and I don't like over-the-top Amy. She's much funnier when she's subtle, though I wholeheartedly prefer the early version of Amy to the love-starved version we have now. she was visibly unconfortable with Sheldon's remarks. what was love-starved about Amy last night???? vasu Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 (edited) but it was rude nonetheless. .....Penny should have told him to stop at least. This I agree ..... It was rude 2 weeks ago when Leonard called Sheldon a crazy bastard. From his point of view, he was just stating facts. But it is Sheldon, it is fun with flags... he had Amy dress up like pretzel to serve his creative vision... With regard to his podcast, he is lawless. Still rude though. I'm sorry...I am not sure I got the gist of what you were trying to say...... ..and I never said it was rude of Leonard called Sheldon a crazy bastard..and if I remember correctly there are many occasions where he was called that.... I was just using that as an example, people can be rude even when being truthful. It is always rude to call some a crazy bastard(even if you are provoked and it is pretty darn accurate). As soon as you go there, you lose the argument.

I.H.S.F.C. Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 No offense, but if after 3 seasons you are still carping about 'the right amount of Amy and Bernie' then I truly feel sorry for you. Ironic coming from somebody who whines anytime there is a storyline centered around one particular character, who happens to be one of the three main characters in the show. BlackWhiteRose Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 (edited) It was a good episode. My highlights: - Shamy chat - Amy and the wild monkeys - Sheldons knock on Pennys door (the first one of course *hehe*) - Raj almost naked running after Howard to get the sheet of paper with Lucys number - Howard defended Raj and called him his best friend (so sweet and a big prove for their great friendship) - before Amy, Leonard and Sheldon left to go to Pennys play Leonard asked Sheldon to give him (Leonard ) his (Sheldons) gameboy, nintendo and PS3 so he (Sheldon can`t play with it instead of watching Pennys play) - Pennys play (that proved that she´s a really good actress) Edited February 22, 2013 by BlackWhiteRose

As opposed to the numbers of people, Mayim Bialik included (you defend the honor of the fictional character she portrays so dutifully, after all!), who await your input with bated breath? silverangel Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 I love that for Raj this next date with Lucy may be something special :D . He deserves to be happy. I wonder where writers will go with it. I love how Amy is learning Sheldon how to deal with his problems. He trusts her and because of that he surrenders to her. He went to Penny to thank her and accept the invitation, he did not want to, but he did it. Thanks to Amy with small steps, he will become more open to other people. I love this Howard's jacket... great color, and that quote in Raj's appartment: You didn't kill her and chop her up, that's not what we're smelling, right? Really funy. I love how Sheldon admires Penn in her play, how she acts, this is the proof that he began to see other people, and more appreciates Penny. I love that Sheldon's knoking thing, when he came to Penny to thank her. He was taken out for a while from the security framework so he could see how it would be if something was not planned. Good start. :D

Kaizen Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 I enjoyed this episode alot. It provided the romance theme timeout that I was hoping for, and although it didn't have the thunderous high notes of the past couple of episodes, I thought it was great from start to finish. Raj getting some screen time and a girl was nice. Lucy came across as nervous sweet, cute and adorkable, but nothing too great or bad. Raj was pretty good throughout. High points were the lobster, tidy whities, and running down the street scenes. Raj must of found Penny's old UGGs. I didn't want to see Raj without pants on, again, but it played well with Howard. Howard sticking up for and worrying about his bromance with Raj was nicely done. The one on one scene in Raj's apartment, reminded me how great H&R are together, and how they were before Bernie. Bernie was mostly window dressing, but I chuckled at the kinda ripe joke. I love Shenny scenes, so providing not one, but three of them in one episode was awesome and as usual they were great. Penny's facial while watching Sheldon open up and spreading his legs open / telling Penny to do the same was hysterical. And Penny opening the door before Sheldon did his knocking thing was special. Quite touching how Penny knew right of the bat how Sheldon wasn't quite right and offered to go back inside. Amy rocked, I can watch her monkey routines all day long. Penny's play was nicely done; her lines were quite symbolic. A,S, and L complimenting Penny acting skills and Leonard looking so proud and happy was a nice touch. The writer's made a great decision to use an acting class play to rejuvenate Penny's acting career. Something bigger (at this point) wouldn't be believable. Pomita Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 (edited) I'm down with a bad cold and work stress so really needed cheering up, and this episode provided a thorough dose of that. I found it hilarious, and much better than how it came across on paper. I really have only two cribs - the ending felt a bit incomplete, probably because I'm used to a strong joke in the tag, and here the actual tag got missed out. (For obvious reasons, I'm disappointed about the bit with the wifebeater not making the cut, but maybe it would have looked out of place). And secondly, the scenes with Raj completely sinking into despair made me uncomfortable at places. I guess that was the point of it - to have him hit rock-bottom - so that they can have things definitively looking up for him, after this. I was rolling with laughter at Sheldon's expressions during FwF. I just have to go back and watch that scene on repeat, just because it's so funny! Jim showed some inspired body language there - the way he awkwardly draped himself across the couch made me choke. This, and the scenes at Penny's door (absolutely priceless knock+compliment), reminded me that their terrific comedic chemistry is very much alive and kicking. Sheldon/Amy/skype was a sweet delight, and such wish-fulfillment to see their online communication back again, complete with smoking monkeys. I didn't find it repetitive at all - they've only done it once before this, in season 4, and it felt like a nice bit of continuity and a lot of fun. Mayim's comic timing and delivery was spot on. 'That's right, they're no good without the lighter'. Besides this, I really liked seeing Howard stand up for Raj as a friend and act out of concern for him; I loved the scene where Leonard gets the games out of Sheldon's clothes (he knows him so well); and Bernadette had some good lines too. 'We're trying to get him out, not you in!' Last, but not the least, we didn't get to see much of Lucy (and I'm spoiled so I won't comment about further developments), but I'm just so glad to see a character like her (or Amy) on my favorite show - people I can identify so much with, in different ways. Ok, I may not jump out of a bathroom window but forcing myself to attend a gathering, or feeling hopelessly awkward on a date, are so familiar. She's mousy and scared and shy and so not perfect; neither is Raj.. and I'm always eager to see a romance which starts with 'you don't want to do this, I'm broken' - 'don't worry, I'm broken too'. Bring it on, I say. Edited February 22, 2013 by Pomita

phantagrae Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 From what i read on tumblr. Call Me Maybe was played during it or something like that. It wasn't mentioned in the taping reports here, just someone on tumblr who said they were their as well. So if that was made clear in the original reports, then i don't think anybody would have expected the tag to be included. Because they would have to clear the song to use it and the big bang theory really doesn't do that much. I know Leonard sings that Boston song in Season 1. Howard sings that Bernadette song in what...Season 3? But it's not the actual song being played. Then again...maybe they just played Call Me Maybe between takes. But they mentioned how Jim was doing some of the dancing he did to that. But they rewrote that tag so many times they probably decided to scrap it. That's why the Tag tonight didn't seem like a tag. It was a scene that they had to put as the tag cause it must have ran long. Here is what the person on tumblr said... So when reading that, if something like that was included in the taping reports, i would have not expected it to be kept. It says "DURING TAKES". So not surprised it was cut reading that. Seems hilariious, but where would it fit in an episode that ran long like tonights? What could they have cut from tonights to keep that as the tag? I can't think of a scene right now. I think this person simply misspoke. Did you read Monique's report on this site? They have a DJ on set who plays music BETWEEN takes or between scenes, so that's when the song was being played and the actors were dancing. I think the wife-beater tag wasn't used because they couldn't quite get it right.
Ar Diem Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 I thought it was a good episode. It didn't make a whole lot of sense for Raj to take the rejection so hard after suffering so many before it but I can let that go. My least favorite scene was Raj eating the lobster. It was just too pathetic. Amy and the monkeys were a little much but all in all I am glad she is done with that study. It was really nice to see Penny acting since I don't think there has been a mention of it all season. I was starting to think she had closed that chapter of her life. I guess we don't know if that was a paying gig or something done by her acting class. The fact that Leonard was amazed suggests that this is the first time he has seen her doing anything in a long time. Anyway, this is probably the best episode of 2013 so far. eirwinrommel Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 I see that the actor playing Stuart (Kevin Sussman) has been demoted to 'Guest Star' status, from his earlier full cast member listing. I suspect it has to do with how many times an actor appears in the same speaking role in a season. I understand, that if they appear more than a certain number of times (I think it's nine) they have to list (and pay) them as a regular. I could be wrong, I remember reading it in the context of Amber Benson (Tara) on Buffy. Also they might have been planning to use him more and wanted to keep him available. On Buffy the reason Drusilla dumped Spike was because Juliet Landau had a scheduling conflict and couldn't appear.
Engrprince Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 I liked it but I have to agree with a lot here that it was OK. It is good some times just to have a plane comedy with out the character or relationship growth. it was probably the most forgettable episode this season. Not the worst just the least dynamic,
Moonbase Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 (edited) I liked this episode. The Raj scenes weren't that great but I like Lucy. I thought she was convincing and well acted. The best parts were the Sheldon and Penny scenes. Fun with Flags is something I never enjoyed but this one was good. I laughed my head off when Sheldon was trying to relax. He just looked like a big sleaze. Penny was smiling at first and then her face just went 'WTF?'. His leg spreading and smirk at the end of that scene was so good. Penny's acting scene wasn't brilliant but I liked how the others thought she was amazing anyway. Leonard was very impressed as well, not just Sheldon. And I agree the tag seemed wrong. It needed something else at the end, but I guess they had no time. Edited February 23, 2013 by Moonbase
