How is it an inconsistency?  Even if she was not that good Sheldon has never been portrayed as an expert in judging acting talent.  He has been portrayed as having a very warm spot for actors though (as long as they don't cross him... lol).

You are right about judging talent, I completely forgot Sheldon said "I got goose bumps" when Wil did Fun with Flags. :icon_lol:

The reason I thought the tag was inconsistent was because he said "She's remarkable" which is his biggest compliment he has ever paid to anyone, ever. And it wasn't prompted by anyone else. Howard asked for a compliment to let him met Steven Hawking and he said 'I never said you weren't good at what you do, it's just what you do isn't worth doing' to which Leonard says it was better than he's ever got.  So I was really surprised.

But this was an episode for Penny, as you wrote before. They have dragged her character in a sideways direction for so long, it's nice to see something positive for a change.

in all fairnes though, he also said Ricky, the smoking monkey was remarkable  :icon_lol:, so him saying that Penny is remarkable is consistent with his past remarks of calling Penny a "gorilla" and a "blonde monkey" :p

I thought of "That 70's Show's" Fez the second Sheldon remarked that they could replace Raj with a latino. That could be a great sweeps ratings stunt, and how fun would that be to see two "70's" alumni back to back (Ashton follows sans the Greenbay football helmet on Two and a Half Men). Wouldn't that be a great Bazinga!

I had an instant dislike for newgirl, as soon as she said she didn't like comics. Also, she strikes me as too much of a deer in the headlights, if she can't even hang with Raj, what chance would she have against Sheldon? He'd glance at her asconce and it would be bathroom window time for her. The world is too full of faux- nerd girls who just torment unsuspecting nerds at comic shops and video game expos, giving them false hope.                                                                                                                                              I would have welcomed back Alice with her artistic abilities and nasal piercings, and I'm sure Raj would have enjoyed having a girl who got away from Leonard. I would vote for her to be a regular on the show, as we have enough scientists, and one cool girl, a cool/ nerdy/ artistic girl who could get along with Raj and Stewart would be very cool. Maybe by bridging the gap between her being a pretty girl AND a sort- of nerdette Raj would be tempted out of his mutism as he tries to extoll the virtues of Aquaman to her. :fi_lone_ranger:

It's amazing how people have such different expectations from the show. This epsiode felt like a throwback to seasons 1-3 when the emphasis was on unique humor which I thought was great. Others seem upset that it wasn't all romantic relationship stuff that's dominated the past few seasons. Makes you realize what a difficult job the writers have trying to please everyone.

Emo guy here, saying it was a relief not to see romcon. But that's because the track has been laid in and there were no sudden course changes or tempests. Doesn't mean they can't go back to the romance when they need the tension for "this weeks" funny. Did not see it as throwback though 'cos those old characters are gone. Did not evoke for me any reminiscence or nostalgia.

Am slightly scandalised by the spread your legs line. But so funny. And Penny's expression. Laugh much, yeah.

At this point i don't know if Sursonica is kidding or serious. The Shamy is becoming rather like a cult with cultspeak.

Well maybe, but anything to take a chunk out of Penny. He never called the monkey remarkable itself, he was talking about Amy's study.

Amy: I’m giving him emphysema. The least I can do is let him hang out and watch cable.

Sheldon: Remarkable. Aren’t you worried about secondhand smoke?

Still...either the monkey or the study of it was remarkable....same as Penny

Did anyone else thing "raj soon to be GF.  Saying she was "damaged" was a bit over the top, or is it just me?

Not really - it's how she sees herself. I found her whole speech to him about how she is around people to be extremely poignant.  And who knows, we don't really know anything about her yet, other than her fear of people. Maybe she is damaged.

I'd hoped Lucy would be a nerdy culture girl who likes comics, Star Trek etc..Now she's plain (totally fine) and damaged. Can't nerdy girls be utterly okay. Do they have to be needy doormats like Amy or messes like this new girl. Though I have to say the highlight of the show was Raj in his briefs eating lobster, utterly hysterical, still laughing at the thought, especially him running down the street in his Uggs. Sublime.

How do you know if Lucy does not like Star Trek, Wars etc?  She only said she didn't like comics. Also, what does her "plain" look have to do with the way she sees herself as damaged? Or that she is a nerdy girl at all....

Also, I do believe your post was really a chance for you take a  swipe at Amy.  Amy Farrah Fowler is in a relationship with Sheldon Lee Cooper, get over it.  There are plenty of shenny, i hate amy theads for you to post in.  Making the same disparaging remarks about her every chance you get is redundant.

I liked the Raj running scene as well.  Those uggs, and the lobster ordering reminds me how comfortable Raj lives.

I mentioned Lucy and Amy being plain as it's very Hollywood that the good looking girls: Penny and Bernadette have happy relationships and are certainly in charge of them whereas the less beautiful are damaged or unhappy (Amy just said 'I want a normal boyfriend') FYI this isn't an Amy thread it's the show thread. I never post in Shamy threads as it's unkind to ruin people's enjoyment of the ship. But if you call a 2 year platonic friendship a 'relationship' that's extremely sad.

Thought the skyping and the monkeys were hilarious. I wish they'd bring back Dr & Mrs Koothrapallis, love them!

Perhaps less beautiful girls are more likely to be damaged or unhappy.  Not that I would know...   ;)

(I would also venture that Penny is plenty damaged, at least when it comes to relationships. Her terror of commitment and impulsive, destructive behaviors aren't exactly healthy.)

We also have no idea if Lucy will be nerdy or not, but I would enjoy seeing a girl with nerd interests. I mean, witness the forum here, and I know I'm not the only one of my female friends who likes Star Trek, comic books, gaming, etc.  It would be neat to see a girl who shares at least some of the guys' interests and perhaps ends up hanging with them instead of the girls. And that would bring in some interesting tensions, too.  Win-win!

I gotta say, If you aren't going to say something nice about someone's looks, maybe it's better left unsaid.  These actors are people and they deserve a little bit of respect.  I don't mind if people coo about who they think is sexy, but it's not right to trash on someone's physical appearance.

Incidentally, I think Kate Micucci is cute.  However, physical appearance isn't the most important factor in a relationship or in whether someone is the best casting choice.  It's not the most interesting thing about anyone; it's just the easiest thing to pick on and judge.

I personally love Penny. I know a lot of people think her character is shallow or extremely anti-feminist in nature due to her being some sort of "sex symbol" for the guys, and while she may be, considering their exposure, she is so much more than that. I think her reluctance for commitment is an important character trait that emphasizes her independence and her need to be sure, as well as her growing maturity. In the past she has been so tied up with guys, the first episode talking about her ex who she loved and was with for a long time etc., however now she's realizing the need to take care of herself and go slowly. Sure, it's with the first decent guy she's been with, but I think that's all the more important. She's not thinking "Ah, well, I know him, he's great, head-first into this relationship I go!" She's still taking her time to figure out if the problem ever was the guy, or if maybe it was her. In addition, her ability to physically overcome to men despite her smaller stature (in comparison to some of the guys...obviously not all of them) is a more physical, yet telling, aspect of her dominance. While Leonard feels the need to tip-toe around Sheldon, she ploughs right on through. What intimidates her is the unknown aspect of herself, not the outside world. She's taking the time to figure it out, which I think it excellent.

Now, a little off topic, however I still think EXTREMELY significant, was Amy's role in the episode. I love her as a character, I think she's developed spectacularly and she's shifted the relationships and, I feel, brought a new balance to the show. Her line to the monkeys where she shouts "Yes I know you want a cigarette and I want a normal boyfriend, but we can't all get what we want!" (or something along those lines) is a HUGE jump for her! She's finally verbally admitted that she's unhappy with where her and Sheldon are. She's obviously alluded to it before, with the roommate issue, and at points during Valentine's Day, however I feel like it's now not just a joke to play off but a real, tangible conflict. And hopefully one that will yield wonderful results for us Shamy obsessors!

Penny and Bernadette have happy relationships??? Did you watch the V-day episode? All three couples have their spats and recover. To say that there's some kind of statement in the show about relationship happiness based on the actresses' PERCEIVED attractiveness is absolutely ridiculous.

I think there's a bit of desperation to grasp at straws going around here.

eta: And bringing out good ol' Chuck here. Whether you see it or not, is irrelevant. There are plenty of standard relationships on tv, if some of us like to watch this one for its uniqueness and you want to think we're sad, by all means go ahead. We'll keep enjoying it.

Um Penny and Bernadette have boyfriends/husbands who take them out for Valentine's day, have sex with them, give them compliments, give them gifts (Howard gave B a star), want to live with them and marry them.

Oh I'll agree that Sheldon and Amy are in a relationship; it's called D/s with a side of masochism on Amy's part.

Each relationship is dysfunctional in its own way. Penny won't commit, Howard is a momma's boy and Sheldon and Raj have BIG psychological issues. The whole point of a story is to see how the characters navigate through it. If everyone were happy and settled from day 1, you would have no show.

Again, it's what works for them. If it's not your cup of tea, there's 3(4?) relationships to choose from. Or your imaginary one, if you prefer.

I try to not get into things like this, but no matter what you believe that gives you no right to say that it has to do with a character's appearance. I know plenty of people (including myself) who think that something about their appearance will make it where they can't have a boyfriend who loves them and cares about them and that's a shame. It has a way of making you feel absolutely terrible about yourself. Amy and Sheldon may not have a conventional relationship (and I'm sure that if Raj and Lucy become a well-established couple their relationship won't be conventional) but that works for them and that's what matters. Sheldon has a lot of problems that he's trying to overcome. He knows that Amy deserves more than he is giving, so he's trying to work on that and that shows how much he cares about her.
