"Some people are otters, some people are rocks". LOL!

I think the thing with the episode is that the overall idea was very good but there weren't that many lines where I was REALLY laughing. I know Leonard's attempts to get the girls interested were meant to be cringeworthy but they didn't make me laugh really. I was more "get it over and done with so I can hear Sheldon and Howard". So I agree it was a bit weak as far as comedy is concerned.

Where there people saying Penny was drunk at Disneyland? I didn't think so at all, I think she was just bored out of her mind.

My partner and I watched together and we laughed. The Disney fetishism was a bit unseemly - but the two girls without street smarts were into it. Consenting adults etc. The other girl wasn't and she let it show. She has taste.

International Women's Day 2013 is/was 8 March so nicely topical.

Also Princess Leia is now a Disney Princess. Maybe next time.

Nice episode! Liked it!

my highlights:

- Sheldon wanted to google how to get 12 year old girls excited *LOL*
- Amy´s and Bernies costume
- Leonards speech in Howards middle school (Johnny did a really good job with this! He´s so good at this!)

- Howard/Bernadette at the end (Horsie Howard I love it *LOL* Simon did it so great! I cracked up *LOL*)
- Leonard/Pennny at the end (How was your...what? *LOL*)
- Shamy at the end

It was 20:13. In comparison the previous episodes were 20:29, 21:04, 20:55, and 20:03 so no big difference.

I think the reason why it seemed short (it did to me too) is they were running three disconnected story lines. They had less than 7 minutes per story line, which basically lets them set up some jokes, and that's about it.

Excellent points! I didn't think of it as Penny just wasn't at all into it. She didn't seem to be drinking that I recall. As an actress, dressing up as a Disney character was probably not something she would be into at all as it would seem like work to her. She's probably way over the whole princess thing anyway, if she ever was into it. I doubt she ever was, being a tomboy. Penny's idea of dressup is little black dresses and sky high heels, not passive little princess outfits. In this sense, she's an adult. She never has seemed to be into cosplay either. I also didn't think the guys (or many other dudes) would be into Disney cosplay either.

I think the reason we might think Penny was drunk was because she set that up in the car.  Besides that, they were really kind to her in the last episode so making her a slut and a slush again is SOP.

Those of you who think being spoiled ruined R/L date jokes don't beat yourself up.  I wasn't spoiled and they all fell flat for me too.  To be fair though I think the texting bit ruined all of the comedic timing.  It is just another in a very long line of reasons why his selective mutism has been played out.  I am sick of it and seeing him with a drink in his hand.  Enough already.

I agree, it's enough with the mutism.  It might be nice if they had an episode in which the whole gang teamed up to help him overcome it, similar to the one when Sheldon had to give a speech.  This is not one of those things they can develop slowly over time.  Now, by putting him in a relationship, they've given themselves a short timeframe to deal with it.

I like the idea of bringing Leonard's mom back to help him overcome it too but at this point I would take a coconut falling on his head in a gilligan's islandesque solution if it would just go away.  I am sure like the Siri episode there is still some potential for me to laugh at it again but it is not worth all of the episodes in between anymore.

Re: Raj's mutism - agreed, this joke/quirk ran its course years ago and they need to aggressively plot out a storyline to fix it.  Presumably this girl will be a motivating factor, and it seems fitting that she'd be the one to do so as she has so many issues herself; that is, she'll be more accepting of it and he won't have to feel so pathetic and foolish.  I like Lucy a lot so far, so that's my hope, anyway.

And I do believe this marks the first time I have been interested to see what happens with Raj.  :)

After sleeping on it, I don't think I like this episode. It was "cute"; but, the writer's were lazy. They went back to the old reliable...Penny's a slut, Leonard's a marred child, Bernadette's a mini Mrs. Wolowitz...meh...

I would like to see them bring in Penny's Mother who straightens out both Leonard and Penny.   Of course that could just be that I am curious to see what she is like.

I liked it a lot. Couldn't bring myself to love it because it was a bit too rushed for my taste, but there were good ideas in it so all in all, it was fine.

I did enjoy Leonard and his issues. I think the scene was meant to be cringeworthy, doubley so. Cringeworhty because we are given extra info as to how Dr; Beverly wrecked her son's childhood and aspirations but also because said aspirations were a bit... sad, for lack of a better word. So we end up almost agreeing with Momma Hofstadter which is, in and by itself, traumatising. I thought Mr. Galecki did an amazing job : he let the pathos shine through without it looking manufactured. No small feat for the scene was quite over the top. He made me laugh and want to look away at the same time, which is what it was supposed to feel like, I think.

Raj's idea for his date was sweet. And his interaction with Lucy was moving yet amusing. The only problem I had with it, and it is quite petty of me, is the speed with which these characters appear to be able to type. Maybe it is because I am a slow texter myself but just a couple of seconds to write the whole thing about proms being fairy tales come true... It is a bit far-fetched to me. But I get it : we can't spend several minutes just looking at two chacters typing.

The boys were so very cute in their collective effort to get young girls interested in science. While I find it odd they didn't immediately think of getting help from the two female scientists they know, it was lovely to see them try and fail on their own. And those schoolgirls were fierce ! I loved the applause they gave when Sheldon admitted they had been discouraged to choose careers in the field of science and I enjoyed the cheeky girl who compared Howard to her flight attendant uncle. Smart cookie ! Plus, I was pleasantly surprised by how perceptive Sheldon was : he's the one who got all the right ideas, aside from googling what he tried to google... Which was genuinely hilarious. He really has no clue.

The girls were lovely in their costumes. Very fitting. Plus, the writers managed to draw a nice parallel between the boys and the girls. The guys want to be respected as scientists and also dream of being Starfleet Cadets or Jedi knights. Just like the girls wish to be taken seriously as intellectual beings while dressing up as pretty pretty princesses. No difference, no contradiction. I liked it.

Penny... I said it before but again I am really not bothered by the references to her so-called "wild" past. She, a consenting adult, had fun with other consenting adults. So far, so good. The one thing I do find a bit tiresome though is the way those little lines are emphasised by the other characters' reactions, the way they freeze, as if they had never, in their entire lives, heard of casual sex (or people having kinky fun on fairground rides). That to me is a bit odd, especially coming from Amy who has one hell of an imagination. Remember when she wanted to turn the club's bathroom into a palace of the senses or something and was disappointed when the others said no ? That's my girl ! She may not have much experience but she can come up with some crazy stuff, so what's with the O face ? [/ small rant]

What really made me laugh was how completely bored Penny looked. It tickled me in all the right places because I have a slight obsession with the "actors" who work at DisneyLand. Whenever I see them with their big, fake smiles and their infinite patience with the kids who smear ice cream on their costumes, I cannot help but wonder what they look like when they're on break, between two parades. And Penny gave me the answer : they eat popcorn, looking bored stiff, wishing they were somewhere else. Happiest place on earth, my bottom !

I Lucy okay, but I don't know why the writers had to add an additional cast memeber that has "issues".  The whole I want to kiss Raj but am having a panic attack is not something that I want see going back and forth with another couple on this sitcom.

I don't know, I'll give Lucy one more try but so far she isn't doing much for me. She's cute and adorable with her issues but she doesn't make me laugh. I do think she's a great girlfriend for Raj though, if we put her social anxiety aside, but I just can't see her being her own character for some reason.

I slept on it too and have a slightly better attitude about last nights show. Saying that it was still easily the worst episode of the season. I agree with what you said and would add like others on this forum Raj's mutism gotta end. I sort of like Lucy but I don't see their relationship having a future. I actually thought a better first date would have been Penny chaperoning Raj and Lucy like she did Sheldon and Amy.

I'm entering the game late this time... finally got to watch this morning.

I liked this one.  I wasn't sure at first... the opening scene was weak to me... until the very end when Shelon walked over to the computer to do his google search (lol).  The rest was great -- especially when the guys were talking in the classroom.  And Raj's date was very sweet and I think Lucy did a great job.

Leonard and Amy shined the most in this one to me... both were very funny!  And, at the end, when Howard rode his horse to bernadette... loved it!

And... even though they made a joke around it, I appreciate that Big Bang brought some awareness to the subject of more girls getting into science.  Kudos to them.

ps... amy sure looked good!  Too bad sheldon didn't appreciate it!

pss... oh, and I have a question... did raj have a drink before his date with lucy, or was he talking to her without it?  he did talk to her, didn't he?  Or was it all texting... seems like he did talk.  sorry if this has already been brought up.

Plus having her yell "panic attack" is just goofy.  It would have been funnier if he had opened his eyes and she was just gone again.

That is probably because we are at the end of 7 seasons and it is hard to invest in new characters.   She is going to have to be considerably more interesting and funny for me to care.  If she had been a cast member since the early days she might be good enough as is but not as a cousin Oliver.

My ideal situation for Raj is not to have a permanent gf but a string of wacky gfs where he tries to become whatever they want.  As popular as the show is they would have actresses lined up to do 2 and 3 episode arcs.  It isn't especially new but it does give him a chance to be funny and wear all kinds of funny clothes.  Goth Raj could make another appearance.

I thought the conception of the three stories was pretty solid but the parts following were just basic...

We do not often get to see or hear about the work the guys do at the university..so I like any stories based on that area...and I also liked the fact that the girls deciding to go to disneyland came amidst them trying to help Raj with his date..

Raj and Lucy were kind of boring ... kind of endearing.....I hope they will be more interesting later....

But the Raj and Lucy part was the only real stuff....the rest of the episode was just a collection of jokes......howard is and is not an astronaut  ... Leonard's mother was cold....Sheldon not getting how to excite young girls...Penny's "colourful" past ..... and Amy's lack of colourful past......

I liked the irony of the girls dressed as princess telling the students to crave to be more than just being pretty.....but sadly there was no conclusion to either story....

I did not understand that why nerds like Leonard and Howard would be turned on by their princess girlfriends .... because I thought they were more star-wars-trek ..superhero ..flash type.....and not romantic princess type and would not have much knowledge about them........probably with the exception of Raj.....

Story aside... Leonard doing the "cool" hand moment after the rap was amusing....Red hot Bernadette is always entertaining but I did not feel the need for her to call her friends bitches...

I enjoyed this one. It wasn't great, but it was a solid episode towards the end of the season where everyone is probably a little tired. If it was a bit by the numbers to get where they need to go with Raj and Lucy, I'm okay with that.

I'm still interested in Raj and Lucy and I laughed at some of Kunal's expressions, especially with the porn/prom mix up. I would like Lucy to stick around but I'm more interested to see her interact with the group, especially the girls, than the romance with Raj. Raj can get a little dull when he is on his best behavior; I'd like to see some more personality emerge from Lucy to counteract that.

Some of the jokes were recycled, but I do love Leonard's issues with his mom and his complete ineptitude for public speaking. Johnny never fails to make me laugh at either.

I do think that while the idea of Raj having a texting date with a girl is kind of fitting and amusing, the actual execution of it knocks the comedic timing off a bit.  I think that one reason why the scene seemed funnier in the taping report is that there's no lag in the timing when you read the funny lines.  But since the actors weren't saying them, but waiting for the voiceover before they could show their reaction, it threw the timing off--and in comedy, timing is supreme.  You can have the funniest line on earth, but if you wait a beat too long, or go a beat too soon, it can fall flat.

I do think that one can see this date and the previous Lucy scenes as laying some kind of ground for things to come.  So in this ep he had some success and they had a nice little evening, and she wanted to kiss him, which is good.  I do think that her having to say "panic attack!" was a little weak, or a little obvious or something, but I understand the gag, and Raj's line afterword worked.

I do wonder if Raj's relationship is going to be a big part of the season finale.  Maybe their saving his "cure" for the finale.  Maybe in the last episode he'll actually be able to speak to Lucy on his own.

I think that having a "damaged" girl as his girlfriend may make it easier for him to feel confident about talking to her.  He might be less intimidated with her because he knows she has issues as crippling as his own, as opposed to him trying to talk to a girl who is more confident and would overlook him.

Lucy was attracted to him first, which is also important.  Maybe if his self-esteem is strengthened, he can begin to get past his mutism.

So, these episodes may be important in setting up that shift in confidence.  If he's the one who has to lead her, if you will, then that could be a factor in him getting past his mutism.

As for Penny referencing her past--I don't know how it has to conflict with the timeline--we don't know if some of the things she refers to might have been done with Kurt or with any of the other guys she randomly dated before she got together with Leonard.  She could have done any or almost all of those things with only one or two guys from her past.

I loved Amy's progressive set-up to get out of work--and I love that she said she'd never played hooky in her life!  I don't think I ever did, either. :p

Easily the weakest episode of the year. The scenes where Penny is sitting on the bench and the kids in the classroom bored out of their minds sums up this episode for me.  The only parts that I found remotely funny was Sheldons' googling, Leonards' rapping, and Howard's horse bits.

The three story lines were weak and disjointed.

Girls... A&B looked nice in costume.  Evil Bernie is a step in the right direction. Penny "i'm a slut" jokes - again and 3x times, booooring.

Guys...Leonard "my mommy didn't love me" again...zzzzzzzzzz.

Raj and Lucy...the texting idea was neat at first, but turned into a snooze fest.
