menotseen28 Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 Does it seem like at times that Bernadette is turning complete psycho on Howard? I mean he isnt a grown up like some people because of the toys, things like that but then again he has lived a sheltered life with his mother. I think she is getting a bit out of hand at times, the Cinderella thing and hiding his XBOX. It might just be me but I think that she has definitely took a turn for the worse. The episode about the 3D scanner, he has just as much right to buy what he wants. If she went out and spent a bunch of money on clothes or something like that, he wouldnt complain or I dont think that he would. I just never seen these two being a right fit for each other. I cant wait to see however how Amy and Sheldon's relationship plays out. I still think that they are going to get it on eventually, either she is going to use some of Bernie's drugs and knock him out or he is going to do it for some type of experiment. I just hope that if it happens, they dont ruin his character by making him go crazy over it.
MJistheBOMB Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 I love Howard & Bernie together. I can see where you're coming from though. In fact, I think there are a lot of people out there who don't like when she gets into her, "psycho/mean" mode. For me, it's just for laughs and actually if it's at the appropriate time, I think she does need to get psycho. LOL...I find it amusing but hey, that's just me. What I did NOT like was when she said, "you make peanuts" to Howard. That was uncalled for...no matter how angry she was about the situation. Yes, he did say something stupid like she makes the money and he gets to spend it but still, she could have said anything but that in response. As for Sheldon & Amy....we shall see. LOL. It would be interesting to see her do some type of experiment on him that he is willing to try out, "knowing" that it would never work or maybe hoping it would work. tmp Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 My husband doesn't like Bernadette because he thinks she's mean, but I think she's just cute when she's angry--like a feisty chihuahua that tries to compensate for being tiny. Having said that, they may be relying on the humor of it a bit too much. It's like Amy's girl crush on Penny, which Steve Molaro said "spun out of control". I didn't like the "you make peanuts" line either, but spouses have every right to expect to be consulted on large purchases, especially if they have a joint savings account. I loved the line "come at me, see what happens". Bernie and Howard are good together IMO. They're very cute and sweet, provided Howard doesn't go into child mode. Actually, Bernadette may be the best significant other of the group; she is shown trying to take an interest in what he likes and making an effort to be supportve. CaitAmber Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 There's been a few moments where Bernie has come across overly sharp or possibly mean, but when I take in the situation and everything that's happening, I can understand the flip-out. I'm sure I'd be driven crazy sometimes if I was married to Howard. So some lines I sort of cringe at, but in general I can understand the psycho moments or I just chalk it up to good ol' comedic relief. Moonbase Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 Bernadette is my least favourite character because she is so poorly acted. Even when she's trying to be nice, it feels like she's planning to murder them all in their beds. Anger is the only thing she does well IMHO. AndyRenee Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 (edited) I don't think I will ever understand why people think the Shamy having sex and him liking sex with her will ruin his character. That's just sad to me if the main thing you like about a character is the whole aversion to physical contact thing. Regarding Bernadette I think considering all she deals with being married to Howard that I'm ok with her getting feisty from time to time. And in the big picture they have a sweet relationship. Just hope the writers don't do what they typically do and let the joke outrun its course on the show. koops Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 Bernadette doesn't only go psycho on Howard, she goes psycho on the others too when the humor requires it: Raj, Amy, for example. I like her a lot, but I can see why it can become annoying when it's the go-to plot device for the writers, just like for the other characters' "quirks" (Amy's girl crush was mentioned). As for Shamy, it'd be pretty depressing if they got it to get it on drugged or for an experiment. I hope they don't resort to something like that. I'd rather they never did it. You may not agree with it but some fans like him for other reasons. Given the interest in the Jim Parsons on this forum, I think it's perfectly clear why so many girls think this is a good idea. koops Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 ARGH!!! Why does it always have to come down to Jim's looks??? Is it inconceivable that one might be interested in Sheldon having sex for reasons other than Jim's looks?? There are actually a whole bunch of people amongst Shamy fans who do *not* find Jim attractive that way. Just because the ones who do are more vocal it doesn't mean we're all drooling after him. AndyRenee Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 All I was saying is that I do not get why they feel this one matter would ruin his character. That's what doesn't make sense to me. Sheldon to me as a character is so much more than some physical contact issue. So whether he does or doesn't have sex doesn't play a role imo on how great I feel the character is. Done. eirwinrommel Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 (edited) Found this on television tropes & idioms http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Characters/TheBigBangTheory Bernadette Rostenkowski-(later)Wolowitz, Ph.D. (Melissa Rauch) I took Howard to the beach once. He nearly burst into flames like a vampire! Howard's miniature-sized romantic interest. A microbiologist, she is often the voice of reason and by far the gentlest character of the show. In a contrast to the other scientists of the show, she doesn't have much difficulty in navigating a successful social life. Despite being sweet and bubbly, she can and has gotten angry enough to scare the others. She started out as a friend of Penny who also worked at the Cheesecake Factory to pay for her schooling, she later graduated with her doctorate and is working a very lucrative job for a pharmaceutical company. Adorkable Beta Couple: With Howard. Their relationship is actually a bit more of a roller coaster than most examples, as they had broken up for some six months between the 3rd and 4th season and every other episode of the 5th season was introducing a new relationship hurdle they had to get through. Although them getting through the tough parts showed how good they are for each other, leading up to their marriage. Beware the Nice Ones: Despite being possibly the nicest character on the show, she has a real temper when angry. Her line of work is also extremely morally sketchy - she makes bioweapons for God's sake! Her vicious side comes out in full in "The Parking Lot Escalation" with an argument between Howard and Sheldon spilling over between her and Amy. She will go from demure to outright venomous in a second. "I'm the one who had your car towed!" Buxom Is Better: She is fairly well endowed, and this was mentioned in the show. Howard's Mom: (regarding a custom made vest) She has a tricky figure, she's short and stacked like me! Characterization Marches On: One of her defining traits in her introductory episode is that she didn't really get any of the jokes the others would share. Her second episode was similar (In response to Howard seriously proposing to her "Is this one of those jokes I don't understand?"). In her third episode she admitted to laughing just because it made Howard smile, while still not getting them (though she would try to explain some jokes to the others). Since then it's never reappeared. The Chick: More so than Penny. Child Hater: It stems back to when she was forced to take care of her younger siblings because her mother worked full time. This caused problems for Howard, who always dreamed of becoming a father. Closer to Earth: Compared to pretty much everyone (even Penny). Covert Pervert: Don't let her cuteness fool you. The Cutie Cute, but Cacophonic: Sweet Jesus. Cuteness Proximity Daddy's Girl Dumb Blonde: Completely subverted. She may talk in a cutesy voice and play the ingenue around Howard, but she's also a microbiologist with an interest in physics as well (she's every bit Howard's intellectual equal). She mentions at one point that she puts on this facade to make Howard feel more secure in his own intelligence. Fun Size: She needs a stepping stool just to see through her peephole. Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: She's the nicest character on the show, though, while undoubtedly cute, she isn't always as naive and innocent as she seems. Heel Realization: In an interesting subversion of The Unfair Sex, she was unsettled when Howard announced his chance to go to outer space because he didn't discuss it with her first. Howard apologized and tried to backtrack with a formal couple discussion on the matter, and she flatly stated he wasn't going and dragged his mother into the argument. It was only after talking with Amy and Penny did she realize that she was in the wrong. Quoth Amy, "We're not here to judge. We're just here to be supportive until you realize what a despicable thing you've done." Hidden Depths: Normally, polite, sweet and kind. When the girls cosplay as princesses, however, her demeanor changes... "I'm driving the car, it was my idea, I'm gonna be Cinderella. You bitches got a problem with that? Come at me, see what happens!" The Ingenue: She's rather oblivious to Howard's double entendres at first. Kawaiiko Limited Wardrobe: She typically likes flower-print skirts and button-up sweaters. Magical Girlfriend: Howard seems to see her as one. Meganekko My Beloved Smother: Although her mother never appears onscreen (until 'The Fish Guts Displacement'), this is one of the things she first bonds with Howard over. Noodle Incident: She and her fellow microbiologists apparently crossed the Ebola virus with the common cold. Not that they'd ever admit it. "That would be a terrible, terrible thing!" Obfuscating Stupidity: She admits to do this around Howard at times. Promotion to Opening Titles: In season 4. Put on a Bus: In "The Plimpton Stimulation". Offscreen, no less. The Bus Came Back: She returned in "The Hot Troll Deviation" and got back together with Howard. Raised Catholic: One reason she and Howard bond is because of their shared rebellion against their religious traditions. Sarcasm-Blind/Captain Obvious Scully Box: As is normal for exceptionally small actresses being paired against taller actors, Bernadette is almost never seen without some sort of lift in her shoes. She Cleans Up Nicely: When Bernadette got made over into Cinderella, she looked beautiful. Sickeningly Sweethearts: With Howard. Silk Hiding Steel: Despite her height, her apparent meekness and her mannerly behavior, she's among the rare characters able to make Sheldon shut up and abide. She can even handle Howard's mother, which is NO easy feat. Sixth Ranger Seemingly Wholesome '50s Girl: See Covert Pervert. Part of it is as backlash to her strict Catholic upbringing (see above). Smart People Wear Glasses Smarter Than You Look: People tend to forget she is a microbiologist due to her kawaiiko personality. She once said she either wanted to be a microbiologist, physicist, or an ice dancer. Stepford Smiler: Type C. Bernadette is always smiling. And it's the always same smile, (see her picture above) whether she's enjoying time with her friends or saying some incredibly creepy and threatening things. Seriously, she wears the same damn smile when offhandedly commenting on her lab crossing Ebola with the common cold. And denying having done so a second later. Not to mention the conversation she has with Howard about how to talk to her father. Team Mom: She can even handle Sheldon. They Do: With Howard. Vocal Evolution: Bernadette's voice was always pitched higher than http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUO39s8aMos. Her is much less "squeaky" than her (although that also varies depending on the episode). What the Hell, Hero?: To Raj when Leonard reveals to Howard that Raj used to have a thing for her. Of course, she also calls him a "Cutie Pie" after she's done chewing him out. Edited March 20, 2013 by eirwinrommel

Anomaly Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 (edited) Others may post after me regarding this issue and want to debate, but all I'm going to say is you obviously have a way of thinking and I have another. You seem to want Sheldon to remain the same, and I am open to IF done in the right way him changing in however the writers see fit. That's it. TBBT is supposed to be a sit-com... Not real life or a dramatic program. Change is not only unnecessary, it messes up the formula and the chemistry. When you start changing too many things, you end up with a different show, only with the same name. Sheldon's character is part of the foundation of the show. Changing it, changes far too much. IMHO, TBBT is already a different show than it's long-time fans have come to know. Look back at almost any of history's greatest sit-coms... The characters never fundamentally changed. And the few times when they did, the show in question went into decline. Not always (immediately) from a popularity standpoint, but from a quality standpoint. Archie Bunker was always Archie Bunker, The Fonz was always The Fonz and Barney Fife was always Barney Fife. They didn't change because 1: They were great characters, 2: They weren't involved in any dramatic story-telling and 3: Changing them would have destroyed the formula. TPTB are only messing with all of these once great & unique characters because they can, not because they should. Ar Diem Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 Others may post after me regarding this issue and want to debate, but all I'm going to say is you obviously have a way of thinking and I have another. You seem to want Sheldon to remain the same, and I am open to IF done in the right way him changing in however the writers see fit. That's it. Fans of the show can witness the show at every point of its path and so future episode impact past episodes. Anyone who had fun with creepy Howard originally now views those antics with a cloud hanging over it. With Sheldon some of the anger and frustration stems from the fact that he is being made into a hypocrite in past episodes and if he has sex and likes it, it seals the deal. Some will view that hypocrisy as naivety others will be less forgiving because his anti-romance and anti-sex views were so pronounced. When he has sex, regardless of how they write it, some of those really funny Sheldon vs Lenny moments will diminish for some of the fans. Think of it this way. You have no idea when that moment is coming. You are held in suspense. Even if you read spoilers you can only know so much of what will happen next. Whether you like it or not the suspense is part of the experience. There would be no reason to watch Shamy's reactions so carefully if you already knew that in Season 8 episode 13 Shamy was definitely going to have sex. You would be relaxed and comfortable. The same thing happens with Lenny. Their 2 seasons of will they or won't they is less compelling now. Once Sheldon has sex many of the jokes that he delivered at the chagrin of Lenny lose something. So while you are embracing it those that want to preserve those moments in as much as their natural state as they can are railing against it. Unfortunately when you come to care about some characters it is hard to just stop and not find out what happens to them. Even someone as anti-spoiler as myself is curious. That curiousity has held me firm during the second half of this season when I have been bored a little too often. I can't say it will keep me going against too much more of the same though. As I have stated before the ship has sailed on the format of the show. I may not like it but I accept it because there is nothing I can do about it. It won't keep me from occasionally ranting but that is what a message board is for. What I do ask is that if I am asked to watch Shamy make it good TV. Make me root for them as a couple because right now I think they may be the worst sitcom couple I have ever seen.
Kaizen Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Yeah, Bernie has gone psycho on Howard and Amy, Raj, Penny. I think the writers are trying to get Bernie dialed in because the sweet & sour version of Bernie is funnier, whereas the pure sugar & spice version of her is boring. Nogravitasatall Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 (edited) I don't find him sexually attractive either - but (segue) I'm waiting for Bernie to go psycho on Sheldon... "like that's not exhausting" is a prelude. One day she will just step straight over Amy and ...BOOM! And he wont know why. 'Cos he is not nice to her... Who brings takeaway to a dinner? He has had training in manners from his cotillion days. He just don't care. Bernie is just storing these things up. She's a very vengeful person. The closet cleanse may have slowed things down but it will always be an uneasy relationship. But that is ok, because they needs some tension in the group to drive the show. Often partners dont get on with their partner's friends and they just suck it up - or not. So lets see where they go with psycho Bernie.
