rachelshamyfan Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 OMG Yes!!! This would be awesome!! As far as Howardette and babies. I'm never against a storyline out of principle, to me it's always about the writing. If you write something well you can make almost anything work, provided you have the time to develop it consistently with the characters. That's why I said I have reservations about the idea of Howardette and babie. As Bernadette was REALLY adamant that she didn't want children unless Howard became a stay at home dad (and even then, she didn't seem that thrilled), I would want this to be explored more rather than have one baby-sitting session with a dog become the switch that suddenly makes Bernie say "Oh I think we could do this some day". I still think TBBT doesn't have space for babies though, so I most definitely hope they do not go there for a looooong time, unless the show goes on for over 10 seasons. There's a lot to do with these characters still before they get there, and I do think that if they chose to make the baby issue a bit of a sticky wicket with Howardette they could have something to write for them for another couple of years, with Bernie going back and forth on the matter. If they just have her change her mind just like that, imo, they waste an opportunity for a storyline. In any case, the more I think of Professor Proton, the more I like him. There's so much potential with his character. I agree, idt the show needs babies and definitely not with Howardette and if they do go down that road make it on the last episode ever! eirwinrommel Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 I know I keep asking for fanfictions but can someone write this please? I miss my sciency-Shamy! That could be interesting. Nogravitasatall Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 (edited) What happened to 'Bill'? Too substantial? It felt wrong. Not my spot I guess. And it was still an alias. I'm no Shatner. And if I have to type eirwinrommel, why should I give you a break? . But I did laugh at Prof Proton. Hope he comes back. Eta. I really wanted hear the potato explanation too. And we had dr Julius Sumner Miller. The next other guy is dr karl kruszelnicki, physicist, medical doctor, broadcaster and taxi driver. LoveShamy Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 (edited) Not the funniest episode. I laughed when Raj lifted up his dog to the webcam to show that he has here hehe Berny made me laugh when she told Raj off :3 But thats probably the most I laughed at the episode. Arthur made me chuckled but no big laughs like in other episodes. I felt sorry for Penny when she was going on about the Potato and no one would should her haha Leonard is the Genesis because he has Penny Edited May 3, 2013 by LoveShamy
Convict13 Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 (edited) I really enjoyed this episode a lot, except Penny.  Seriously she is smart, please stop with the dumb blonde jokes.  Sheldon was just awesome tonight, especially the scene when he talked about why Professor Proton was so important to him as he was growing up,  seriously I teared up!   I could see so many opportunities to have Bob Newhart back again, eg - Sheldon invites Professor Proton to the University to have lunch together.  They had brilliant timing off each other - amazing. Yep I get  from that small introduction to him why you all revere him so, his timing was impeccable.  And I liked the Raj/Howard/Bernadette storyline for the most, bit worried about where they are taking Howard and Bernadette though - PLEASE NO babies.   8 out of 10 for me.  Oh and I forgot to mention did you all notice how willing Sheldon was to hug Professor Proton? Guitars1964 Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 ajond, Â The problem, for which I see no fix, is that, as respects Penny, the writers are always going to go for the laugh over character development (where it's either/or). Â So while a lot of us want to see Penny growing and changing, I'm afraid at times the joke will rule. Â It might have been nice if Penny had said, in "The Closure Alternative episode and in response to Leonard's asking if she'd be willing to dress up to go with him to Comicon, "maybe" or "we'll see" (couldn't expect a full "sure" from her). Â But instead we get the laugh line "I had an epiphany, not a stroke". Â Would it have killed her to give in a little? Â No, but there's no laugh there. Â Some will cringe that TBBT is, or has become, a romantic comedy, but when there has to be a choice one way or the other, the comedy will trump the romance part. Â So I suspect we will continue to see some cheap shots at Penny in the service of laughter (not that I necessarily like it).
Ibid Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 If Prof Proton is a recurring character, can he be Howard's dad? Could be fun. ....just a thought.
rickfromillinois Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 I got allot of laughs from the episode but then I have been a big fan of Bob Newhart for years.   I did find Penny portrayed as being dumb as a sack of rocks distracting.  Although I am sure that I am reading way to much into it, I wondered at the time if the statement to Leanard by Prof Proton "What do you two talk about?" was some kind of hint at some future problems. BazingaFan Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 I'm so glad to hear that prof proton will be back. You know, the writers really did good for me with this one... because the Christmas episode really fell flat and left me without closure about sheldon missing his pop pop. Boy, that really tugged at my heart. But now... Sheldon's finally met a childhood idol and had a connection!  (instead of a restraining order lol). I'm so happy they brought in a father/grandfather/idol figure for Sheldon -- it's really been needed for a long time. And, like some said before, bob and jim had such good chemistry... so it was just perfect! Can't wait to see him come back. koops Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 Totally agree Bazingafan! It sounds to me like this ep and the next ep will pretty much fix everything I didn't like about 6x11. I'm looking forward to more Professor Proton.
Europa Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 I enjoyed all the stuff with Professor Proton. I've always loved Bob Newhart and he's the same as he ever was. Â Â Also enjoyed Penny's enthusiasm and curiosity when she's shown things she can understand and marvel at, rather than hearing a lecture about equations, ancient Greece and the history of physics. Â Â Howard and Bernadette were a snoozefest, and I'm beginning to actively dislike Raj. Here's hoping there are no Howardette pregnancy reveals until the last episode of the last season. djvang Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 Excellent episode!! Newhart is one of the all-time greats.  The Howard/Bernadette /Raj storyline wasn't the best. I still think they're looking at a "Howard Loves Bernadette" spin-off series in a few years.  One thing that was a little out of character - doesn't Sheldon have a terrible fear of hospitals? Now he's eagerly hopping in an ambulance and sitting at Prof. Proton's bedside and touching him. Maybe he was just overcome by his admiration of Prof. Proton.  And no Yoko! Maybe he was just overcome by his admiration of Prof. Proton.  And no Yoko!  My son noticed the thing about riding in the ambulance too... but I think after all these seasons, it's been established that sheldon will sometimes not be consistent and make exceptions, depending on what is going on in the episode. In season 2, he had no problem being in a hospital when he wanted stephanie to do tests on him. It just depends on what's going on, his motivations, and how comfortable he is. He was extremely comfortable with professor proton and that takes precedent over his germ phobia (in my opinion).
koops Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 I think the only time he really freaked out about the hospital was in the Engagement Reaction. Any other time he's been in the hospital (for Penny, his barber etc) he was never that freaked out. I think that particular episode just played it up way too much.
