Tensor Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 Per IMDB post: BBT was up 0.1 to a 4.6 rating, easily taking the weekly ratings title once again. Here are last night's fast nationals, courtesy of TVByTheNumbers.com. NET SHOW 18-49 R/S VWRS.(M) CBS The Big Bang Theory 4.6/16 15.69 (last week's ep 4.5/15 15.05) FOX American Idol 2.5/8 10.98 NBC Community 1.2/4 2.80 ABC Wife Swap 1.1/4 3.62 CW The Vampire Diaries 0.9/3 2.13 CBS Two and a Half Men 3.1/10 11.90 NBC The Office 1.8/6 3.47 ABC Grey's Anatomy 2.9/8 8.50 CBS Person Of Interest 2.4/7 12.76 FOX Glee 1.8/5 5.23 CW Beauty And The Beast 0.5/1 1.26 NBC Parks and Recreation 1.5/4 2.89 ABC Scandal 2.6/8 8.13 CBS Elementary 2.0/6 9.50 NBC Hannibal 1.0/3 2.51 Those numbers will go up on the final rating release this afternoon. Big Bang has gone up every week, plus the show ran past 8:30 (8:32 due to the Star Trek preview) )which will add to the numbers. My guess would be a 4.8 with 16 million. Convict13 Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 One thing that was a little out of character - doesn't Sheldon have a terrible fear of hospitals? Now he's eagerly hopping in an ambulance and sitting at Prof. Proton's bedside and touching him. Maybe he was just overcome by his admiration of Prof. Proton. And no Yoko! Yep - but it depends which season
Convict13 Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 Sheldon's true love is science. I hope. Perhaps his first love <
phantagrae Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 This is what I posted about this ep in the other folder, after I'd had overnight to think about it. I loved this episode--lots of great laughs and the inimitable Bob Newhart! So many great things...where to start, where to start... I loved the nerf canon and Sheldon saying it was a good thing he was out of silly string--I'd love to see a silly string fight! And S&L singing the Proton song, heehee! Love Sheldon skipping into the cafeteria--I just wish we'd had a clearer view of the skipping. He was kind of hidden behind Howard with the camera angle, but Jim got a little air in that hop! I also loved Howard and Raj when Howard asks Raj why he doesn't just put Cinnamon in a kennel and Raj just deadpans back at him and asks why he doesn't put his mother in a home. I loved the way Jim used his body in all of the scenes with Professor Proton, showing how nervous and excited Sheldon was, with his arms wrapped around his body, hunched forward, staring at Prof P, and I loved the way he was barely sitting on the couch, all folded up, staring at Alfred. I swear Jim only had a sliver of his right butt cheek on that couch. And those knees! But it was incredible, when I was watching it the second time through, to see the way he used his body. And Bob Newhart is just a genius! He almost always plays a sort of befuddled straight man, stuck in the middle of a bunch of crazy people, but he does it SO WELL. I think he's been urged to submit this episode for a "Guest Star" Emmy and I think he said he would. I loved the way the guys were trying to encourage him by talking about what an inspiration he was to them and how a lot of the discoveries and accomplishments by young scientists like themselves were due to his teaching and inspiring them as children. That was a very sweet moment in a really funny episode. And I loved Penny's cluelessness. I didn't think of it as a "dumb blonde" thing, or really about Penny being dumb, but just that it was really funny. We know she's kind of dumb about "sciency stuff", but she's smart about other things--and things about which the guys are dumb. And I really don't think it's about dumb with her so much as it's about uneducated. She doesn't know because she hasn't learned or been exposed to certain things. But when she is taught about something, like chess, or how to aim the little nerf shooter, she catches on pretty quickly. So, she didn't know about the egg thing, or the potato clock. I don't know how the potato clock works--I've never seen it demonstrated that I recall. I'd never seen the egg thing, either. Oh, and I loved the way Sheldon raised his hand and blurted out the answer about the egg. LOVED it! The plot with H/B/R was funny and cute, too. I do like it that playing "family" with Cinnamon helped Bernie consider what it might be like to have a family. I don't think it means that she and Howard are going to try to get pregnant right away, but I'm glad that they softened her stance on whether or not she'd consider having children in the future. I think it was a good way to bring the topic back for the future. Who knows, maybe they'll have further chances to babysit Cinnamon and end up worse than Raj about treating her like a baby. I hope nothing ever happens to Cinnamon. I know they don't need to use her in every episode, but I hope they don't get tired of having her there in the background because I don't want them to feel the need to have anything happen to her! Anyway, I love Sheldon singing Soft Kitty to Alfred--and Jim sang it so low, very different sounding...and nice! And I loved how awestruck Sheldon was to be asked to be Prof Proton Jr, and to see Alfred as a father figure--one who understands science. Very interesting. I do hope we get to see Sheldon playing Proton Jr at some point, whenver Newhart comes back. I can see it being something of a disaster if Sheldon has to interact with little kids...he might do well, or he might be horrible... So, I LOVED this ep, laughed out loud all the way through, and the end was very sweet. I'm so glad they changed it from the bit with the puppet that was first mentioned in the taping reports. Much sweeter ending. ETA: I kind of loved the Sheldon slap--I just wish we'd heard it a little more clearly. I think the audience kind of laughed over it or something. But I loved that Leonard just went in there and gave him a little whack. And Shelly all worked up and excited.
Nogravitasatall Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 (edited) @phatagrae, Yes. They all regressed to childhood, in a good way. Penny was playing the innocent, the boys playing junior scientist. They all dropped any sophistication. Edited May 3, 2013 by Nogravitasatall

Final numbers are in and I wasn't too far off, but the numbers went higher than mine. Final demo was 4.9, with 16.29 million total viewers. I was off by a minute on the time, as the ratings went to 8:31, not 8.32. I promise I'm working on the last two, er three now, weeks of ratings. wayelrob Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 I have long been a fan of Bob Newhart. His genius has always been reacting to the chaos around him and he obviously still has it.

MJ is pointing out that married people would talk about having kids, at some time during the marriage. Especially, if one of them(in this case Howard) wants them and the other ( in this case, Bernadette) doesn't want them. Think of it as a stronger for of 'silly', and not directed at you personally, but at the situation itself that you are describing. scifi_boy2002 Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 I thought the episode was ok. The thing is, I thought Bob Newhart was great and the Big Bang Theory cast was great--but I think the two styles of the actors did not mesh well. The story line was great. It was a good idea. It was funny. There were great lines in the script. The best line being when Professor Proton said to Leonard, "You're the genius". But again, it is the two styles that did not work for me. Bob Nehart's style is a bit more slow and laid back than the TBBT's. One major problem was that they made Penny overly stupid. Her charactor suffered the most in the episode. I could have done without her line about using the potato to restart Professor Proton's pace maker. Penny is not that dumb. The best part of the episode was the banter between Professor Proton and Sheldon. Sheldon being obsessed with the Professor was effective. It was classic Sheldon and classic Nehart. But the rest for me was a waste of good actors and comedic opportunities.
wannamaker Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 The day came: Howard and Bernadette talking about having Children Why not Lissie? Does it affect you personally? I think not. Writers do what they like to do...whatever our wishes are. They often pick up a plot line for one episode and soon after they drop it. Yes... Bernadette comes out a bit mean about money (i.e.the 3d printer) and often saying no off springs that's a thought that bothers Bernadette (remember also the magic show how she told off one of the kids . There must be a reason for the writers to make her that way. Don't you think?

koops Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 I think it's normal for a married couple to talk about kids, after all this topic inevitably comes up whenever people are discussing "What's next?" for Howard and Bernadette. So it's not shocking to me at all the subject has come up, it came up last year too after all. Doesn't mean it's going to happen anytime soon, if at all. I honestly would be very surprised if the writers went there, they don't seem to run this show as a "family-oriented" show, so unless the characters start getting too old and the show is still on the air, I doubt they'll bring children on. But that doesn't mean the topic won't come up.
Nogravitasatall Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 @koops, is there any chatter on the interwebs about ms rauch and children? Cos I'm trying to imagine her working in Scully's overcoat. I'm not so sure they could pull that off in a multi-camera sitcom. I'd say they just played a riff off Raj's attachment parenting practice. BangerMain Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 Excellent episode!! Newhart is one of the all-time greats. Maybe he was just overcome by his admiration of Prof. Proton. Apparently, this is one of the fears that he easily overcomes. He went to see his barber in the 5th season on his own. Oh good question, I don't follow the actors news so I'm not sure whether Melissa is planning to have kids. To be honest, I would think it's easier to hide a pregnancy here than it was on TXF, Scully had to run around a lot They hid Kaley's leg and Mayim's hand fairly well, they don't seem to be the type to include real life stuff in the storyline. Berliner Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 (edited) The day came: Howard and Bernadette talking about having Children I know what you mean. I don't know exactly where but about a month ago I mentioned in another thread that H&B are going to have a baby (announcement in Season 7 and birth in Season . To be honest, I don't mind anymore if they pull it off because Howard became boring and plain a long time ago. He's just too deep now in this whole marriage thing, there's no coming back for him I fear. -------------- About the episode: I liked it! A solid "Good" from me. + Prof. Proton + Sheldon and Leonard talking about their childhood + interaction between Sheldon and Proton + Raj and his dog, how he cares about it lol - Howard and Bernadette, meh. - Penny being super dumb this time, come on... SRAM Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 I tend to agree with the people who think this episode was written around Bob. I use to watch his shows and this episode was very much like one of his shows, I didn't recognise it a first, but after it was pointed out, I can really see the similarities. Bob was always surrounded by crazies, so they probably made Penny super dumb and Sheldon super childish to support his comedy. Leonard just became the sounding board for his jokes. I don't think the writers really were trying to keep them too much strictly in character with Bob, they were just trying to support his act. robertc Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 When someone called Raj to say they found his dog, he said "Thanks Jess" or something that sounded like that. What was the line? Was it the police who called him?
