Man! I just LOVED this episode! could not STOP LAUGHING! Howards impressions where so good and very funny and I have to say quite accurate. I loved that Penny was acting like she was in vegas when she rolled the dice. My god Leonard s wasp impression, come on, who else just burst out laughing :D Sheldon getting all excited over Howards impressions making him speak as the dragon. There will be a lot of smiley faces in this post :D Lucy and Raj where so cute when they kissed through the fence, but Im not all that keen on Lucy, although at times she made me laugh im just like ..meh..and she reminds me to much of her old character in scrubs.

oooo Sheldon and Amy..My face was pushed up against the tele and my heart was beating so slow ..I may have died im not going to lie. It was so cute, intense, I actually grabbed a cushion and held it to my face (not covering my eyes because thats insane!) I was just like what Howard and Berny did when they said ooooowhhh. 
I was just like OMG. :D See they don't need to have sex, when their relationship has so many surprises. :D   
I think its one of the BEST episodes this season, there wasnt a moment where I didn't laugh besides when Amy and Sheldon where talking in his room. They rolled a 15!

  I usually cringe at the thought of having to watch the sub plot, especially when the main plot is really going really good, but in this episode I really enjoyed the scenes with Lucy and Raj.  I know that some  people are calling her boring, and in a way she is, but I like her character and I think the writers are  gradually working her way into the show. I feel that there has become a build up to her meeting the rest of the characters on the show. There has never been a situation like this ever on The Big Bang Theory, and I think it will be interesting when she finally mingles in with everyone.

  I never knew much of Kate Micucci's acting career or even her  her name for that fact  until finally looked her up on IMDB last week. I saw that she played a mediocre part in the unique, obscure comedy movie "The Last Hurrah" which I also recently watched.. What really blew me away is that Kate comes from my home state and has a very similar last name as mine. Now I see why I Love Lucy, LOL.

 

 The D&D game with the girls was great. Howard's impressions were brilliant! When Amy walked out of the room I had thought it was going to be curtains for Shamy. The scene in the bedroom was very powerful!

It seems odd to me that this show grew on me most favorably because of Penny and Leonard.  I still like them, but they are being more side cast as secondary characters lately. That's okay though. I'm glad they are still getting along well.

I love how they all seem to be enjoying this so much together. I'm missing the cultural context here since I don't know Christopher Walken, but the impersonation sounds great.

 

 I never really watched very many of Walken's movies either but I recommend for you a really entertaining feel good movie with him and Brendan Fraser from 199 called Blast from The Past.

Just watched it on Itunes.

 

I loved this episode. All the D&D action before and after the girls arrive was sooooo hilarious funny. It cracked me up how excited the guys got while preparing for the game. Had some LOLLING moments.

The taxi scene was great too. I am a big fan of Garth Brooks and envy him for almost been thrown at with Amy's old panties LOL.

 

It was also the first time I really enjoyed watching Raj and Lucy. The kiss was so cute.

 

Simon was terrific!

 

The Shamy action was really sweet and touching. Big milestone in the relationship. It was stated before, and I agree: The first time a Sheldon initiated kiss would really have fit in.

 

All in all a wonderfull episode and it goes into my list of favorites of all seasons.

This episode was just the best for me....did I say the best ... the best is not enough. I LOVE IT.... 

I love SHAMY scenes... the most intimate, and the most emotional, and the most beautiful.. Jim and Mayim really deserve Emmy.... especially Mayim...

I was  crying during that bedroom scene... and  at the same time I had a big smile on my face...my heart  pounded from excitement.... it was so emotional moment for me. I love how they look at each other... and so much love is between them in that scene .  

I love Howard in that episode... he was just so hilarious pretending Nicolas Cage, and Christopher Walken... he was just star in that episode and yeah throne of the D&D king is his. It was sweet that Sheldon said so much warm words about him, and he appreciated him even said that he is better than Leonard...it was huge step in Sheldon's maturity. Howard deserved it 

Raj and Lucy so sweet,  and the kiss when they were separated wire fence was so funny and so adorable, and Raj said that she is wonderful...in that moment when she climbed through the window and left, they talked with each other after  like they were talking in normal way, like they were not under the influence of alcohol... 

Whole episode was just ...I have no words to say it...I love it

As for Leonard and Penny they didn't really have anything going on tonight which was okay its nice to see other couples get to SHINE sometimes and Lenny is still doing fine so thats good.  Penny and the drinking thing though I don't know I mean is that really still funny to people?  I love that girl, but I think if they can find new jokes for Howard with his impressions, new relationship for Raj and actually get SHeldon to pretend to have sex with Amy in a game then by golly they can find some new material for Penny too.  I mean all her jokes are about either drinking, making fun of nerd culture or her saying something really dumb that makes everyone in the room shake their heads at her like Wow you really are a blond monkey aren't you.  I know thats her character's job to be the sexy one who drinks a lot and says stupid normal people things vs. all the nerds on the show, but I don't know with each passing episode it gets little less funny same with Raj and all his gay innuendos.  I was happy that with Lucy they tone that down its nice seeing Raj act more like a MAN and same for Sheldon.  Its actually dare I say a turn on!

 

 

I understand about  Penny and the drinking but since they were going to Vegas I think she just wanted to bring Vegas there. I think A/B fit into playing D&D than her. I did notice that Leonard was drinking with her. I t wasn't a big deal but Penny could use some new lines.

I know I must be the only one but the Raj/Lucy thing is gotta end. The rest of the group is important to Raj and I don't think she is ever going to be able to deal with all of them. She seems to always crawling out windows and that is when she only dealing with Raj.

It was OK. I liked the Raj/Lucy sidestory. I've never played D&D so I didn't really get that part. Howard did a great impression of Al Pacino. Didn't care for the Shamy (surprise) but for the first time I actually felt sorry for Amy. It seemed like the "cool" kids were mocking her for not having sex.

My thoughts are the pretty much the same. When she said 'I don't like this" and stormed off, I felt sorry for Amy. But boy…. she is a real nose breaker, that's the second one she's taken out this season.

I liked Howards impressions and Sheldon reaction to them. I also think this was the first time I've thought Raj/Lucy might have something.

The D&D scene reminded me a bit of the 'Community' one. Last season Annie and Abed had a D&D sex scene, and that was super funny. This was more for emotional growth though, but anyway.

I loved this episode--as I knew I would.  I think everyone was great, the show was, as Roush put it, firing on all cylinders.

 

THe D&D bit was fun (though I still maintain they were playing it wrong, but that's just my pedant self coming to the fore ) and I loved how excited the guys got.  And I liked that the girls were willing to participate--and that Leonard was the one who suggested they stay and play.  Very nice and friendly and inclusive of him.

Simon's impressions were a lot of fun and I love that Sheldon got so excited.  Loved the line "You just got pantsed in the schoolyard, four-eyes!"

 

And Amy, oh Amy...  I like that she felt bad for ruining the Vegas getaway, but she still joined in the D&D and was having fun.  And I think that Mayim and Jim were excellent in their tone and progression in the bedroom scene.  Sheldon was a wonderful mix of cluelessness and openness and Amy was great as she was open about how she was feeling, both about what the others seemed to think and what she wanted--and her understanding of Sheldon and what he was trying to say.  And I love that she was kind of shocked when he was so forward or suggestive, in his own way.

 

And I also liked the Racy scenes.  I've been a little disappointed in the Racy just because I feel they haven't given Lucy much as a character besides her social anxiety, but the moment in the alley was nice.  I love that Raj was so open and vulnerable and yet kind of strong in telling her how it chipped away at him when she runs out on him, but still being able to say how much he likes her.

I still don't know that there's any "there" there, but I so want Raj to find someone worthy of him--and of his whole character, not just his shyness, but also Raj the Astrophysicist.

 

All in all, a great ride.

 

oh, and my sister, who just started watching this seasons, texted me this morning that the episode made her cry... :D

Yesterday's episode of The Big Bang Theory, the penultimate episode of the current season, ranked as the night's #1 program in viewers and key demographics.

 

"The Love Spell Potential" was watched by an audience of 16.30 million people, ever so slightly up from last week's 16.29m. In the key adults 18-49 demo, The Big Bang Theory scored a 4.9/17 rating, flat on last week.

 

The Big Bang Theory finished first in its time slot and was the night's best performance in total viewers, adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and adults 18-34.

Just through with watching it (thrice). I thought it was a top-notch episode, even apart from the Sheldon/Amy parts (of which I'll share more in the relevant thread). The whole episode had such a nice happy excited vibe to it, with an undertone of touching sensitivity. I loved the joy and enthusiasm with which the whole group played together, Howard's special effects and Sheldon's admiring reactions to them, and the whole Raj/Lucy story - I've had a soft corner for them throughout, though I did feel their potential wasn't really explored, and in this story I think we really got a glimpse of the kind of chemistry they may get to share. Raj seems to care for her in all the right ways for once, and that can only be good for his character.

 

Leonard made me laugh more than anyone else in this episode, for some reason. I cracked up every time he tried to do the sound effects, especially his broken 'whoo' after Howard and Bernadette did it, and the way Penny turned and looked at him.

 

The sudden shift towards seriousness in the later part of the episode was superbly done, I thought. It was so unexpectedly and oppressively awkward when Amy took offense at their comments and ran off, and their expressions when they all looked at each other uncomfortably.. you could have heard a pin drop. And then there was Sheldon and Amy with their few moments of emotional intensity that left me shaken and spellbound.. not for the first time, it strikes me how lucky they are to have actors as fine as this. The idea itself was remarkable, though - of having them take their first tentative steps into physicality through something as non-physical as a geeky make-believe role-playing game. It was so satisfying, and so them.

 

Quite a joyous and fulfilling episode, in more than one way.

Just out of interest how were they playing it wrong?

 

It's a little complicated, but it has to do with how you "fight" monsters and enemies.

 

There's "probability" and then there's "damage"--probability is part of what they were doing.  But they didn't really do the "damage" part, because that's more complicated.

 

Now, as I've said, if they were playing the boardgame version of D&D, I've only played that once, and I remember it being fairly different from how I've played in the past, but I don't remember if it was that different.

 

When you come upon a creature that you need to fight, first the Dungeon Master rolls to see who gets "surprise" or "initiative" or whatever you want to call it--basically who goes first, you (the group) or the creature.

If you get to go first, then you have to roll to see whether or not you hit the creature (typically rolling a 20-sided die), THEN you roll a particular die or dice, determined by what kind of weapon you're using, to see how many damage points you hit for.  For instance, if you're using a dagger, you roll a 4-sided die, if you're using a short sword, you roll an 8-sided die, etc.

So, they were kind of doing the first part, rolling to see whether or not they hit the creature, but they weren't really doing the other part--using different dice and different weapons to see how badly they damage the creature.

 

But that would have been too complicated and distracting and time-consuming (and probably boring from an audience POV) to do on the air.

 

What Sheldon and Amy were doing in the bedroom with the dice didn't make any sense, either.

The very first time Sheldon rolled the dice it was in line with the "probability" aspect--he attempts to remove her armor, so he rolls the dice to see whether or not it comes off.  Typically, with a 20-sided die, anything over an 11 would be a positive outcome.

 

But then when they started using the dice to determine where he kissed her or what he touched or nibbled, that stuff didn't make sense because they were apparently assigning (randomly) a body part to a particular number.  It would have made more sense if he had said, "I kiss you back on the lips" and then rolled to see if he actually did it, rather than saying that the dice determine whether he kissed her on the lips or on some other body part, like her cheek or whatever.

The Big Bang Theory finished first in its time slot and was the night's best performance in total viewers, adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and adults 18-34.

I'm slowly catching up on all the ratings, but a couple of things I found interesting from this week. Last year there was such a big deal made about TBBT being even in the ratings with Idol, last night TBBT beat Idol by 2 full points in the demo(4.9-2.9). And the next closest show, not counting TBBT lead out, was 3.1 for scandal). I can't emphasize how big that 16+ million is for this time of year. There are only five or six shows that even hit 16 million for one show over an entire season. And those happen at the peak of the viewing season(Jan-Feb). To hit those numbers in May is simply unreal. To give an idea, the same week last year, TBBT had 13.9 million viewers. Edited May 10, 2013 by Tensor

Tensor, thanks for confirming that. I had the vague notion that the show was doing between 13 - 14 m viewers at this time last season. The whole season 6 has seen an upward shift of 2 - 3 m on average, I think.

 

Phanta - thanks for the D&D details. Very relevant to the episode! I know nothing about the game, but I did wonder (as much as I was in a mental state capable of wondering) how Sheldon was deciding which body parts would be denoted by which dice score. I thought there might be a general rule or something.

OK, many people said how great the bedroom scene was, so I don't need to repeat it... The dynamics between the characters has been rendered perfectly, the tension has (partially) been resolved, Sheldon was ambiguous as always in this kind of situations - and Amy, as BazingaFan said, stole the show. Coming up with the solution like that was surprisingly sensitive of Sheldon (especially remembering his behaviour towards Amy in the last couple of episodes) and adds some fuel to the discussion on will they or won't they. I really like they way Mayim Bialik acts out Amy's newly acquired 'bitterness' - e.g. her half-smile after Sheldon says 'It's only been three years, here we are in bed together'. I say this is the best UST in a TV-series since X-Files.

 

But I think that the meeting of Raj and Lucy was also really well done and, if it was not for the bedroom scene, would be intensively discussed by all the BBT shippers. Lucy's escape through the window, the kiss, the dialogues... And I loved Kate Micucci's face after she said "Oh thanks, I like them too".

 

And the epic story of Amy's adventure at the airport - wonderfully told by Bialik, and makes me identify with Amy more and more.

I just realized I've seen this movie. Walken was the eccentric scientist father, I believe? I didn't know him by name.

Yes! that is the one. They are locked in the fallout Shelter for 35 years and raised a boy Adam (Brendan Fraser) until the doors unlocked and Adam goes up in the modern world to get supplies. I didn't know of too many of Walken's movies either back then, but his voice is so distinguishing.  I just watched that movie again last night since it came to mind.
