The Shamy Thread, Season 7 [Spoiler Free]

Shamynanigans

I said this on the other forum, but I wanted to bring this up here too.

I really really really want Mary on the show now more than anything. I wonder what it would be like for her to see her son in such a healthy, loving relationship. One that is way more mature than the one she had with her husband all her life. The fact that her little Shelly, who she had to baby-sit into his 30's, can now teach her a thing or two about romantic relationships must be a bit of a shock to the system.

Maybe some fellow shippers would like or hate it, but I actually want to see Mary catch Sheldon and Amy in the act as they're about to kiss or in the middle of mkissing and see their reaction with the whole gang there xD then Mary would be like "Halleluah! or something hahahaha

Just watched the episode again.  I loved Sheldon and Amy on the couch together, just hanging out watching TV.  They were adorable.  Have we seen this before on the show?  I know they've done it plenty of times in fanfics, but I'm trying to remember a date night where we got to see them hanging out on the couch together.  They were supposed to do it for valentine's day last season but we didn't get to see it.

While I don't want to see Mary reacting/overreacting to Amy and Sheldon kissing or anything like that, I do want to see Mary on the show now that Sheldon and Amy are progressing in their relationship.

Last time she was on was in S5 before Sheldon asked Amy to be his girlfriend.  Now, from that episode it seems clear that he keeps his mother informed of the goings on amongst his friends (in his email blasts or phone conversations or both?), but he hadn't really said much about Amy, apparently.  And Amy was the only one who wasn't there for dinner while his mother was in town.

At any rate, what I'd like to see is maybe, as koops was saying, something between Sheldon and his mother where they discuss the relationship.  Maybe he asks her about her relationship with his father, and compares it with what Amy has been teaching him, or something like that.  Not to shame Mary or whatever, but just so they can have a little heart-to-heart  about it.  I'm sure that Mary was dealing with an uncooperative husband--some guys are willing to work at it and others aren't--and who know why she first got married.  Maybe it was a shotgun wedding--Sheldon's older brother could have been an accident...  She had that "car ride and a bottle of strawberry wine" phase, after all. :p

And can I just add that I loved it when Amy got serious and Sheldon sat up from his corner and turned to face her.  Then once they had their serious moment, and he gave her that little dig about Garfield (and how cute was he when he was kind of dipping his head toward her or whatever?), he popped back into his little corner throne with that wicked little smile!

I was saying on the other forum about Mary, that what I would find more interesting if for her to see how Sheldon has changed and is possibly a lot less dependent on her now that he has Amy in his life. Not that Amy is a mother figure in any way, but I think it's a phase all mothers go through when they see their child find their life-partner and have to sort of "let them go", in a way. I can see Mary thinking she would never have to experience that with Sheldon, that he would always remain a little immature and a little childish and in need of a lot of baby-ing, given the way he is, and the unthinkable has now happened (thank you, Raj and Howard). It would be a rite of passage of sort for her, I think. So yeah, I'd be much more interested in that than in any sort of "caught in the act" scenario. Leave that for the gang, later down the line, when Shamy get more physical.

One thing I liked about the last scene with Little House on the Prairie was I thought after Amy tells Sheldon she doesn't need to get even with her, he would make a joke about okay now we don't have to watch it anymore. I'm happy they stuck with the Garfield joke and made it seem like they continued to watch the show. I like how we are starting to see Sheldon take more interest in things Amy likes even if it is to seek revenge. Also the preview for next weeks episode was so vague and my unspoiled brain is swimming with theories. :)

Also about this last episode, I love that its the first real shamy scene together since the D&D scene and sheldon is wearing a red shirt with a dark purple shirt, and if I remember correctly with the "shirt chart" we has last season doesn't red mean passion and purple is love? Also the red shirt has a 20 sided D&D dice on it <3

Also question about being spoiler free ...can we talk about promo clips and photos for the next upcoming episode because the promo clip in the next episode thread (7.05) is so cute and I would love to talk about it ;-), if not i can wait :)

Good question! I think the rule is that once stuff is out it's no longer a spoiler. But I was planning on avoiding promo photos and sneak peeks because they can give away a lot and/or raise expectations too much. Mmm... I don't know what people want to do?

Well, it depends though. I mean, in 4x21 they put the damn kiss in the promo! That spoiled the whole episode in 2 seconds, really. It was pretty shocking.

Even if they include a kiss in a promo, who's to say what is real life and what isn't?  Or the motivation behind the kiss?  We won't know until we watch.  If CBS is comfortable enough with me seeing it before the episode airs, then I'm good with it.  But I generally tend to stay relatively calm and don't have any high expectations, so I'm fine with the promos (even the ones that are misleading).

Haha you two are cute! Welcome Holly&Oatmeal, we don't have many male Shamys so it will be nice to have a male perspective on our shamy threads :)

As for the new promo, I like how when Sheldon comes up to Amy, once again, he is wearing a red shirt and purple undershirt, plus the scene with the Planko vs Janko scene in episode 7.02 he is wearing a red shirt...soooo I hope with are in for season filled with Sheldon in love <3 (am I the only one that remembers the shirt chart or do I sound crazy right now lol)

ETA: actually I just realized Hollyandoatmeal that you said Adorkablyme was your wife and I assumed you were male :( that was very heterosexist of me, if you are female I apologize. either way welcome!! :-D

I was rewatching Rhinitis and I think it is such a subtle, pivotal episode in Shamy's history even though Amy barely appears in it and is barely mentioned. But there are so many subtle hints that kind of turn the page on the pre-Amy Sheldon, I think.

So, besides the obvious fact that Mary knows everything there is to know about Sheldon's friends except Amy and sees all of his friends except Amy, indicating that there is something that's brewing in his head that sets them apart from them, and the fact that she asks about Amy and Sheldon looks offended when Leonard makes the Loch Ness monster joke...

Mary tells Raj the story of "a key for every lock", about the tall girl who she thought would never find a man until the Harlem Globetrotters showed up in town. Change height for intelligence/quirks, and does it remind you of some other story?

Amy is the only one that goes to the lecture with Sheldon and genuinely tries to help him sort out his emotional issues, following which Sheldon ends up on that bench realizing that he is just like everyone else indeed when it comes to emotions.

Then you have the last scene, where Mary emphasizes that he's a grown man now and they need to have a different relationship, including that joke on the chest hair that, allegedly, filled up *over the last year* (wonder who entered his life a year prior?).

4 episodes later, Shelly-bean officially pair-bonds. Early S5 is such a gem of subtle continuity.

PS Welcome Holly, your avatar puts me in such a good mood! It's going to be a war between yours and Puppy Chow's for the one that cheers me up the most :p
