The Shamy Thread, Season 7 [Spoiler Free]

He said they hug even on hot days. That didn't sound to me like he was talking of once a year hugs. The hot days was pretty specific. As in, we hug all the time EVEN on hot days.

Mmmmm.  Okay I see.  Maybe a slip-up by the writers because we got screwed out of seeing them hug.  Maybe they were all Amy-initiated hugs and they will still give us a Sheldon one in the future.

Besides all the obvious cuteness in this episode, Lio and I have been mulling over that "If you play your cards right, I'll let you drive me by the lot where the busses park at night" line.

Now, I'm shamelessly copying-and-pasting what I said on the other forum, but I thought that was one odd line and I wonder whether it's a throwaway or something that will come up again in the future, because:

1) They were leaving work. So it must be around 5-6pm. The lot would therefore be empty.

2) Sheldon hates busses. Even if the lot were full, why on Earth would he care about going there?

3) He made it sound like it was something that she would enjoy.

Now, while I think there's no way they are going there to make out (I'd have the shock of a lifetime if we found out that's what's happening off screen with their new 'physical' relationship Sheldon is so excited about), it does make me wonder whether some other kind of odd couple-like activity has been going on there over the summer and whether we will hear again. Is that where they go hug on hot days? Or play D&D in the backseat of the car? Or what? I don't know, but yes, that line totally sounded like he was suggesting they go to a makeout spot and I think it would be hilarious if it turned out to be the case that it is some kind of odd, Shamy-version of a makeout spot.

Koops,

That line annoyed the hell out of me last night because it seemed so WRONG off/odd/weird but now you have given me a spark of (false) hope. :db: If only TPTB would be this clever.

Why did it seem wrong? I'm confused. If it doesn't mean anything special, it's probably that he thinks parking lots are amazing. Why is that wrong?

@BazingaFan. I don't know that it was a slip up. I think they're making the point that they hug. And it's about time. Just like it was about time he stopped complaining about the handholding. They hugged before and have been dating for nearly 2 years officially now, I hardly think it made sense for a guy who is working on physical contact to be so against hugging. I'm glad to hear that has been going on off screen, I don't need to see it per se, as long as I know it's happening. It's a sign of progress over the summer that I'm happy to hear about.

For  the reason you listed "2) Sheldon hates buses. Even if the lot were full, why on Earth would he care about going there?"  and why would Amy be interested in an empty bus parking lot?  but he DID make it sound like it was "something".   --- Empty parking lot = make out zone ---- If that was what he was suggesting then I'm all for it! xD

Sometimes a bus parking lot is just a bus parking lot.

I wouldn't try to read too much into it.  I think it was just a way of showing how Sheldon thinks certain things are cool ("Look at all those rows of busses!!") and so he thinks it would be cool for anyone else, too.  It would be a perk for her to see the busses if she were to drive him home.

And I don't think he really hates busses.  He obviously uses them all the time now to go and come from Amy's without having to hitch a ride with someone.  They're not his preferred form of transportation--he doesn't even mention needing his "bus pants" anymore--but he seems to be learning to be more independent and riding them more.

Most of the things I was going to say have already been said. Loved the episode!

One thing struck me that I haven't seen anyone else mention... right at the beginning, Penny says "nobody's touching... must be date night". Now that could just mean that it's a "Shamy date night" as opposed to a usual date with a couple, who might be touching or doing other "normal" date things. Or it could mean that Sheldon and Amy usually have some kind of physical contact, apart from on date nights. There have been a few small touches between them this season already, so perhaps a little bit of physical contact has become the norm? That would also go along with the hand holding and hugging line. But date nights are more formal so they still have the no contact rule from the original RA? (See also from last season, when Sheldon said date nights were tedious. My theory is he enjoys enjoys the time he spends with Amy, except from when they're on a formal date.)

Perhaps I'm overthinking this too much.  :cheese:

It's because Penny knows that Sheldon and Amy don't touch the way "normal" couples would, and that it's par for the course for the two of them to be sitting there with Sheldon on his phone, etc., as opposed to a "normal" couple that might be touching, talking, cuddling, etc.

That's why Penny makes the comment about how Amy can resist ripping Sheldon's clothes off, etc.  She's making fun of their version of date night and what seems romantic/hot to them (looking up the phallic symbolism of root vegetables in Renaissance paintings...)

How far is Caltech from los Robles?

Off the top of my head, I can't remember if their address is on North or South Los Robles, but as far as the east/west direction, it's a matter of blocks to the CalTech campus, but if they live very far to the north or south, that would add more disance.

Los Robles runs north/south and is about 8 or 10 blocks from the western edge of the CalTech campus.  But their apartment could be pretty far, depending on how Los Robles is numbered.

I guess it also depends on what end of campus Physics is. If the writers are implying that he needs driving or taking the bus, they must live further away than the closest area. What is more ridiculous is that, regardless of how far north or south it is, it would regardless be closer than Glendale, as far as I understand of the LA geography. Yet, they have Amy drive him to work and suggest they carpool like it's on her way.

Glendale is west of Pasadena, so if she's going to CalTech, it wouldn't really be out of her way, unless she or the guys lived very far north or south of each other or very far north or south in their respective areas.

Amy would be coming from the west, heading east toward CalTech and the guys would be somewhere between her and the school.

The only way it would be more practical for them to walk is if they lived pretty much due west of campus.

My gut tells me that the bus parking lot line doesn't mean anything special, but my heart tells me there is some deeper meaning to it. So let's go with my heart for a moment.  Did it seem like it would be lucky for Sheldon, lucky for Amy, or lucky for both???

Also I noticed Amy lives at pi, 314. I'm sure this is old news, but as a math nerd, I was excited to figure that out! :)

The more I watch the episode, the more the pattern of events that led to that conversation at the door, and why some people seem upset, becomes clear to me. I have to admit it took me 3 days to figure out why people were upset by that scene, my brain just didn't go there at all to start with, I seem to have been seeing the conversation backwards compared to the people who are upset. The people who are upset, I gather, think that Sheldon was being an ass in blaming Amy for her own anger/embarrassment instead of taking responsibility for it. That didn't even cross my mind until today, I never once thought that was Sheldon's intention.

And I think the pattern of events in the episode is quite clear and there is one very clear reason why Sheldon said the things he did at her door, the way he did: he spent the whole episode trying to figure out what he did wrong, and nobody explained to him what he did wrong.

1) He goes to see Amy. She is usually the one who patiently explains things to him when he doesn't get them, and he listens to her. Here, she doesn't. Either because she is too busy for that (as she says) or because she naively expects he can/should figure it out on his own.

2) He asks the Sri Lankan man and he gets given the explanation of the tiger running across her shadow. But Sheldon isn't convinced (LOL).

3) Leonard and Penny just tell him Amy is right and he is wrong, but do not explain anything to him, and don't even listen to his side of the story.

So, in the middle of the night, he can't sleep over it and tries to patch things up the only way he can: telling her that he can't figure out what sets her off but that it doesn't matter in the long run, he likes her anyway, and the fact that he likes her anyway should be enough to make things good between them again. I can see now how it may seem to some like he's blaming her, but I really don't think that's the case at all. It's more that he makes the point that she's difficult to read for him ("delightfully mysterious or bat-crap crazy" indeed) but that he tries anyway because he likes her.

I wonder if I should go spoiler-free too. Considering it. It shouldn't be a problem if we won't have taping reports to read anyway, lol :) But, I've not spoiled myself for 7x7 (the mini report that seemed to be somewhere, didn't read it), so there is only one episode left I've spoiled myself to.

Btw, Sheldon has many times said Leonard is his best friend. But is he more important to him than Amy? If he had to choose which of those is his better friend, who it would be? Spouses or those been in long, loving relationship often say their spouse/SO is their best friend too. After that comes the other best friend who is often the same sex "bestie".
So Is Leonard better friend to him than Amy? I think it would be time for him to aknowledge that Amy is his best friend. Of course, I get it, it's different and hard with those relationship that are platonic friendships to compare them to romantic ones and who is the best friend. But I still think Amy has gotten now by far more important to him than Leonard, and if he had to choose between them, who is better friend and more important to him, it would be Amy. In my opinion. Of course you can have your SO and bestie but if the bestie is more important to you than your SO then is something wrong. I would like to hear Sheldon saying some day, that Amy is also his best friend, not his girlfriend only.

Honestly, as far as spoilers go...it definitely feels good not always knowing what's coming :-) Less stress and drama too. Haha.

I still get excited when Sheldon refers to Amy as his girlfriend. It's the little things that make me love them so much. :)

Just watched the episode again, and Sheldon says to Amy, "...I'll let you drive me past the lot where the buses park at night."  So it would appear to me that there was no hidden or subtle deeper meaning behind that line.  Boo =(

I, too, don't think that there was something more to this line. But it was still nice that he told that. As far as we know he is not fond of bus parking lots not even buses. I believe that it felt romantic to him or maybe he just wanted to spend a little more time with her. Either way I loved the smile on his face when he told that. What got me puzzeld was the ''Play your cards right'' line. What could he mean? Maybe he secretly wanted a round of counterfactuals. I know I did!!!

I want to add that I liked the way she rushed to get rid of that crocodile image. It was like she was saying I'm sorry I knew that it would upset you and I should have taken care of it before it got you scared. Her reaction was thoughtful and sincere and I don't know if anyone else would have reacted like that.

P.S. You guys so got me thinking that I should go unspoiled too!!! I can't decide!!
