I have never seen Friends but I admit I find it hard to believe someone is that dumb that they don't know those chapels are real.

At one point during the Penny/Amy err.., "Bramance", I speculated they would end up drunk in Vegas and married.....

AMY- OK. I’ve looked up grounds for annulment. One: The marriage was not consummated.

Sheldon cracks up laughing.

SHELDON- Oh, please! This is Penny we’re talking about. This thing was consummated.

Leonard looks over at Penny. She looks away and out her window.

AMY- Two: Bigamy. You’re out of luck there unless you have another husband you’ve forgotten about. Three: At least one of the parties was not free to consent due to a lack of understanding as to the significance of the event.

SHELDON: Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner. Lack of understanding. That’s our Penny!

Even as a teenager and finally going to Vegas while traveling across country, I knew the chapels were real and that getting married was big business there.

 

I'm just so pissed about this, are the writers sitting around smoking pot these days? No one will buy this nonsense, gawd!

I just read scene two from the report and I do think that this is something foolish that Penny and Zach would do while drunk, especially since Zach is clueless anyway.  However, it is getting to be a tired and old story line.  Penny does dumb foolish and irresponsible things and fails to consider the results.  I know that people make mistakes, but this is not a mistake it just highlights Penny's irresponsibility, which her father got onto to her for when he visited.  

 

Unless there is something else in the episode that makes this worse, I do not see this as something that will finish Lenny.  However, it can be an episode where Penny is really forced to reexamine her attitudes and behaviors in life.

Im saddened. I don't think it is tragic - it was extremely foolish. That Leonard was stabbed in the heart so many times and she went and pretend-married that hapless goofball is just sad. I had thought maybe she was concious of it being a real marriage and that was a secret that she didnt want to tell Leonard. But she was just a twit.

 

The upside is... well, I still have to see the show. Maybe it plays funnier. And Penny is certainly devoted now. However, it would have to hurt. Maybe it will push her forward because she knows she has piled misery on an undeserving Leonard, and she seems to have been making amends this season.

 

(now waiting for the revelation of the child in middle school that she hasnt mentioned either)

What kills me is she is mad at him because he is upset.  If she really loved him she would be begging his forgiveness and be asking him if they were still together, but no, she hits the bottle again and gets mad at him.  Anyone for old Penny, again.

I am using an extreme opposite of what she is doing, getting mad at him because he is upset.  You do think he has a reason to be upset, don't you.  She seems to keep a lot of secrets from him, this sort of goes along with the horror movie she was in.

Please help me with something: Prady twitted that they had the table read and that a man at the table stood by his credo and wasn't a dick. What is W.W's credo? Do you think he will help Penny get out of this mess of hers next week? Wouldn't that be ironic because he helped cause her to brake up with Leonard just so his team could win the bowling tournament?

I don't know, just a thought. I'm just so disappointed in this episode I guess I'm picking at straws right now!

I never thought of that, Wil is back and now we have a little Lenny conflict.  They wouldn't use him as a way to break them up again.  Interesting.

I do think he has a reason to be upset for sure but I don't think this is keeping a secret if she didn't think it was something real. And I wouldn't want to reveal I was in a topless movie either… I don't blame her for that one. That's just funny. Getting mad at him for being upset, I get that too because she's mad at herself and upset about knowing the marriage was real etc, she hasn't had time to absorb that so there's a lot of emotion going on. Mayhemmmm.

Everything is hard to picture in print in regards to these reports. In both those instances you mention I'm not sure she though they were secrets.

I Think Leonard has a right to be angry techniquelly speaking, but in reality they werent together then, should Leonard have to aplogize for sleeping with Priya when Penny was still in his life? No of course not. It sounds to me though they were partying in vegas, but when it came down to the whole wedding thing, Pennys understanding was it was just a fun, fake wedding. Apart from the lack of common sense and irresponsiblity, the point is she never intended on getting married properly she thought it was fake, she moved on and now four years later its come back to bite her. Penny prob has done very stupid things, when she was really being blonde and having fun, now shes older and in love with Leonard, she is now repenting. Its not that she is a bad person, I think the people she hanged out with who were all more social equals, never possesed intellectually qualities all had a bad influence on her, they werent real friends. Leonard, Amy, and Bernadette particulary have had a huge influence on her. Sounds like she is going to get it annulled, and it doesent sound like it was a neccessarily drunken wedding, more partying and not realizing it was legit, it makes Penny come across as irresponsible but not stupid, it wasent a serious relaitonship and she hasent seen Zac in almost 3 years, it was just a stupid thing that happened when she was under the pretense of it being fake, in reality they are not married she is in love with Leonard, so lets just say I have calmed down a bit. The writers are really testing the waters here though.

The fact she openly talked to Leonard about it, before realizing the wedding was legit lol, shows she thought it was fake, and that she is more shocked then anyone. I think Leonard needs to give her a break, pushing things well force Penny to turn back into "hulk" Penny haha, but I also think Penny needs to understand how Leonard is effected too.

I'm waiting to see if it's four years. Four years ago would put the trip in the year that Penny and Leonard were dating. Season four Thanksgiving would be between The Boyfriend Complexity and The Alien Parasite Hypothesis. It would be surprising that Penny didn't introduce Zack as the guy she went to Vegas with the week before.

If it's not season four, then it would have to be either season 1-2 before Penny and Leonard started dating or in season 5 between The Flaming Spittoon and The Speckerman Recurrence. Although, it would be two weeks after The Ornithophobia Diffusion.

I guess she could have ran off to Vegas in Season 6, you know, the week after she told Leonard she loved him.

 

Looks bad....

 

AMY- Did you know Penny married Zack four years ago?

 

 

Remember though, Season 5 started immediately after season 4, so that might screw up the timeline
