Leonard And Penny Season 7 *spoiler* Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

She has to be who she is and dress the way she wants and Leonard just has to suck it up. It must be difficult having to tolerate beingwith a person who is gorgeous and wants to be with you. I feel for him, because his life is so tough (insert sarcasm sign). However, if he needs a Sheldon in his life then my sympathy wanes. It makes no sense now. He needs to buck up.... but that is not going to happen. Penny has drawn a line in the sand with her job. Why can't Leonard with Sheldon. He is not committing either.

Back with a bang I guess :p

just a couple observations from above comments. it seems Penny shouldn't be blowing money on a dress if she can't afford to buy drinks at a bar. At least Leonard can afford comic Con tickets. Secondly Leonard tried to move in with Penny last season. she didn't want him.

I think there's a fine line and the way Penny's line was written makes it a bit iffy.  Back when I was young, I dressed the way I wanted to dress and if that was a short skirt to show off my legs, then hubby had to accept that. (I heard no complaints btw).

I dressed that way because it made me feel good.  I wasn't doing it to attract other guys.  The reason why I say that the line as written was a bit iffy was because it said she could get things (sorry I don't remember verbatim), well that might IMHO come off as meaning she could get guys to buy her drinks or whatever.

That IMHO is not something one would do in a committed relationship but YMMV...

As far as whether or not she can afford it, until Lenny is pooling their money for their collective livability, then it's really no concern of Leonard's what she does with her money.  And honestly, I haven't seen him really concerned about that.  To me, his remarks about her quitting was coming from a place where he doesn't understand how anyone could dare to dream and try to make a go of it especially if the dream is somewhat unattainable.  No condoning his jerkiness about that, just trying to rationalize out why he's being that way..

With the timing, it could have been bought before she quit TCF. As in she can't afford the drinks now, but she could afford drinks then.

I don't think she didn't want to move in with Leonard she just wasen't simply ready, once again taking what Penny does or says at Face Value, she's a mysterious person who does things on a whim best not to keep a record ;). She was actually willing to live with Leonard just to make him happy, to me that was a small change if anything she has grown, where as 3 odd years ago she would freak out and hulk out, and Leonard would let her, he is not letting her get away with stuff, which I am seeing this year Leonard's regressing a bit in that aspect.

Maybe that was why she responded to the expensive tickets so much, she is starting to realize how valuable having money is.

Her line was …"the dress gets me in anywhere I want." Not things, but get into places, not necessarily just clubs (and even if she it gets her into a club, as in the Christmas Episode, that doesn't mean she wants anything more than getting into the club. In the Christmas episode, both Bernadette and Penny quickly quashed the suggestion by Amy that they turn the toilet stalls into "a temple for the senses" after getting drunk and luring strange guys into the bathroom.

Still say the line was a bit iffy...but that's me..

That's fine. I just wanted to provide the actual line and if the line was "to get me things" I would have a problem with it. As it is, I don't, because we know bouncers and other gate keepers at popular clubs and restaurants can pick and choose who goes in, many times, based on looks.

That dress is probably to replace the one she used to get out of traffic tickets and jury duty.

I am annoyed they didn't challenge Sheldon's statement that they have to find a place for him (i cant recall which of the two post Christmas eps this speech was in)Leonard doesn't have to move in with Penny but he could move away from Sheldon. Otherwise he's not making an effort. Fat chance of anything happening, I know, because of the premise. But he could try to loosen the strings between himself and Sheldon. Otherwise he is just circling, and not making things happen. It sort of makes him a spectator, at the mercy of the other two. Where is his spark?

I don't think the way she dresses has anything to do with whether she's commited to Leonard or not. Lots of people dress conservatively and are as committed as Bill Clinton. Maybe she just chose her words poorly. She's young, beautiful and it's not like she's walking around naked.

I do think it's weird mentioning buying a dress when she's in a financial trouble. It's not like she doesn't have any other dresses lol

I think it was more like they didn't even pay attention to him. He's like the annoying kid meddling in his parent's discussion, but nobody is really listening.

I have given this a lot of serious thought (because I have no life) and I think I figured out why a successful scientist like Leonard has to live with Sheldon. He is still paying off his student loans. You've seen Leonard's mother, his parents probably didn't pay a cent for his education and expected him to do it on his own, to build his character. Even with scholarships, he probably has run up well over 100,000 dollars in debt and because of the high interest, is probably still paying them. I know I am still paying for student loans. Sheldon is probably paying his off too, because his family did not seem to have the money for his education. That is the most logical explanation for two people in their situation for living together because of money.

In that vein, I think Penny will move in with Leonard, because of money, but it is only the catalyst, because after she does it, I think she will find out she likes it and will wonder why she didn't do it before. That is what is going to lead to finally getting engaged, Penny living together with Leonard will make her eventually realize she could easily spend the rest of her life with him, because she loves him, and when she has that epiphany, she will propose.

How exactly did you read my thoughts so precisely? ;)

Re: Student loans, parents like the Leonard's who put such a huge emphasis on education tend to have college funds for that sort of stuff set up when their children are born. Don't forget that Leonard went to the same school his parents were professors at (Princeton), so they undoubtedly played a huge role in getting him going to and paying for Princeton, as some schools allow faculty's children to go at a hugely reduced price. Leonard isn't living with Sheldon out of necessity, if that were the case he could move out and spend less money on toys and eating out. He lives with Sheldon because he wants to.

I think it's time for Penny to step up to the plate. this could of been a time for her to say while looking at furniture move in with me. Leonard has made an effort. as you pointed out he is not moving out of the building so the only other realistic option is Penny's.

Re: . He lives with Sheldon because he wants to.

As I said earlier he lives with Sheldon because Penny doesn't want to live with him. his closest option is Sheldon because he lives across the hall from Penny. if Penny asked him to move in with her he would be there in a heartbeat.

They aren't going to have Leonard move in with Penny. Leonard specifically stated that he needs Sheldon on some level, so I'd say he does want to stay there for whatever reason (masochism? License to complain?) Why would they be buying a table for his apartment if that were the case? I'd bet on Penny moving in with them before that happens, with someone else moving into her old place. Sheldon cannot live on his own, and he does not want to live with Amy.

If anything changes in living arrangement of the guys and Penny... either Leonard moving in with Penny or Penny moving in with Leonard and Sheldon

it would be rather disappointing .... as it would seem like a move  they did because they had to ..but not wanted to....

there would be no difference between this and the episode last year where Leonard tried to move in with Penny....

But Leonard needs Penny too. Sheldon can live on his own he just would prefer not too.. I agree about the table but Leonard is not going to move out of the building so it seems he's trying to make the best of ot.

I agree with the bold part and for me it will be a modern day version of "Three's Company" which I don't want to see since the original one plays here every week.

I have said over and over Leonard needs a place of his own that is neither Sheldon nor Penny.  It's time the writers let Leonard move onto the next stage of life.

eta:  I wonder if the writers will keep Leonard there until they have Sheldon decide he wants Amy to move in thereby having Sheldon kick Leonard out.  Since everything is about what Sheldon wants and needs.

The whining of the show never stops does it lol, never happy constantly looking for things that are wrong, oh yeah Lenny are living together but look at how messy Penny's apartment is, if she really loved Leonard she would have a clean apartment ready for him haha. I do agree though that moving in together both of them have to be ready, tbh last year I don't think Leonard really was ready to move out and live with Penny, I just think it was a knee jerk reaction to getting sick of Sheldon, and Penny was his go to to compensate. And with Penny she was willing to compromise her intimacy issues, to make Leonard happy, which prooves she is really in love with Leonard, but deep down she wasen't ready. So your right in saying if they move in together for financial reasons, no different to last year, it well just be because of circumstance's. They need too both want it, because it's the next step in their future.

From a production stand point that would require another set, and that would make 4b completely useless, assuming Penny hypothetically moved in with Leonard in his new place. So I expect Leonard would most likely move in with Penny, and Amy eventually with Sheldon.

With those spoilers about the marriage proposals making appearances in more episodes I'm not gonna rule out a change in living arrangements. I just wish it was something they both want.

Everybody had good points, but the thing that still sits in my mind is that the writers had driven down out throats that Penny has commitment issues, so they are going have to address those before they move on to living together or being engaged.  If they don't, a lot of fans will be saying WTF, what happened to her commitment issues, and we will all go nuts complaining about Penny and the writers, in this forum.  So that said, I think any scenerio with them moving together also has to address her commitment issues.  It is one of the reasons I think she will be forced to move in with him, because it makes her address her commitment issues head on, sort of going cold turkey.

I don't want Penny forced to do anything when it comes to Leonard.  Leonard deserves better than that in my opinion.  Penny has made it clear she doesn't want to live with Leonard and she isn't ready to marry him.

I am trying to figure out Penny can move in with Leonard and Sheldon but she has a problem living with Leonard.  That tells me Penny's problem is with Leonard and him only.  So, I still say  Leonard deserves better than that!

What about what Penny wants? For as much as this idea that Leonard deserves better then the treatment Penny dishes out, theirs also a case not saying I agree with it, that Leonard could be a tad more supportive of Penny's dreams. I don't agree that she has made it clear to Leonard she doesen't want to live with him, unless she comes right out and says "Leonard I do not want to live with you" haha, their is no evidence to suggest other then the state of her career, that she is ready or not ready. Penny's inability to commit to Leonard (for the record she has prooven she loves Leonard, they have been together for almost 3 years straight now, kinda tired of treatment Penny gets, its unjustified), has probably got more to do with her own insecurities and her own intimacy issues, then Leonard himself. Clearly her experience living with Kurt, is giving her some skeptisim when it comes to the next step in their relationship, I feel she wants some success in her career, and give her some autonomy before she makes the next step.
