Leonard And Penny Season 7 *spoiler* Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

The new ep with Proton sounds(reads) good.... even the *proposal*s

I agree. The proposals in this episode seemed to put Leonard on even footing with Penny. When he didn't say no to her first proposal it appears to really got her thinking and made her ask again. With Lenny it always seems everything is up to her and in this case it wasn't. it was obvious at least to me Leonard was going to say no. Normally keeping score of proposals wouldn't be a good thing but Penny being ahead now I feel is a good thing. None of the proposals should have been a yes. I still think when it really comes and it's a yes it will be a dramatic moment. Even bigger than the SIK?

Another thing that is nice, from the additional info delsino posted, is that Penny's insistance of an answer in the car by him makes her come off a little needy, so it's sort of a little role reversal, which is nice for a change.

I don't know, maybe I'm having a bad day. Why would Penny's insistence for an answer in the car make her needy? The answer she desperately wanted was a "no" answer to make the score even. If she was so needy wouldn't she have wanted Leonard to say yes, even though she initially asked only to even the score?

'Needy' might not be the right word but it was all I could think. I keep thinking of Leonard's proposal and how he wanted an answer the next day. Even though it seems like Penny wants a 'no' answer, she wants closure like Leonard did too. She is pestering him like he does her, I think it gives them more balance. Edited by SRAM

Thanks SRAM, I can see that. Unfortunately, with Penny so desperately wanting that no answer, I don't see a official proposal anytime soon. Also, since the failed proposal scorecard meter is now even at two each, does Penny still have to pop the question or can either of them do it when one of them feels it's the right time? I think since the writers like the scorecard idea so much, they need to establish / update the ground rules. Perhaps they could have Sheldon write for Lenny an official Proposal Procedure Agreement that they can follow going forward?

Clearly you missed the post in the spoiler thread from Shamyfan that "we" won't even care about the real proposal anymore because of all the joke proposals.

I think Lenny fans will care an awful lot but we might need like an official proclamation emailed directly to us verifying in triplicate, notarized by a Supreme Court justice that it was the REAL thing....

I was starting to lose hope in Lenny, until I read the taping report for 7x17. Looks like there are going to be some old school (like season 4?) Lenny. When Penny and Leonard started dating after the North Pole trip was my favourite Lenny period.

My first impression about the proposal was that Penny wanted Leonard to say "no" because if he said "yes," then she would lose any chance at the big and romantic proposal that Leonard wants. She even said that the drunk one was bad timing, and that the funeral was not the right time. I took it as her wanting to make it perfect, which I found cute and endearing. I hope that's how it plays out!

After looking at the second persons taping summary, it really sounds like after Leonard asks her to catch up proposals they just start teasing each other. This episode makes the banter seem less snarky that the Valentines episode, which would be nice, so maybe the writers realized they were making them too extreme with each other.

I feel s3 like they were two kids opening the box too check if the cats alive, since s4 its been probbed and poked but this time around since s5, they are more prepared, and with the beta test it caused them to be more prepared for road bumps, Penny is no longer hulking out and Leonard is challenging Penny to be more honest. I do too miss s3 lenny they were prob dare i say it more compelling then Shamy is now, the way they were written then in terms of plot, week by week was never a filler ep or a bore, it was fun. Altho their are traits and characteristics to their relationship that are much stronger now, i cant imagine Lenny now or even Penny admitting to Leonard her insecurities about showing emotion. You just have to remember s3 when they fought over Pennys ex staying on her couch, and Penny was settling thenn now shes not. I admit while ive bn fine with lenny this season, they made such tremendous progress last season, i guess they couldent do as much this season other then gradual refinement, and portray they are in a solid, homeostatic relationship. But the TR with Lenny reminds me of the old Lenny, Leonard seeing Penny as his godess, but with obvious maturity. And Penny with her perky offbeat banter with Leonard. I think the mock proposals is really endering, it also balances things out. It well happdn, i have always thought the whole premise of the show was one day Lenny well get engageed, i have always felt the show is known for Leonard chasing Penny that was the story, now i feel roles have reversed Pennnys now chasing Leonard if that makes sense. So their well be this massive moment where they well get engaged, ive always imagined a clips show of all their big moments, and i dont think it nds to be so elaborate, but maybe as simple as the hallway all the elevator gets fixed and Penny proposes. Also just occured to me how does Penny keep proposing without a ring lol, anyway 7.17 looks to be a big step they maybe engaged before they move in together anyway.

I felt very positive after reading the "vale Prof. Proton" report. Looks good. I don't mind the joke about score keeping... It's almost self referential. Lol. Not pointing fingers.... But it could about an orange forum hrrhrrhrrr. :)

I know the PP episode sounds very good for our couple, instead of snarky their banter is more light hearted and teasing, plus they talk a little serious too. I am also glad they are playful with the proposal and no one gets mad. However the real proposal is going to have to be special now. I expect one or even two episodes having her prepare for it.

I like that they can banter about marriage without Penny freaking out. To me it shows that she has become more comfortable with the idea.

One thing I want to mention from the report is this; "Leonard says “Well you can rent a bounce house when I die."

This echoes the "Til death do you part" line of the usual marriage vows. Leonard saying something like that and Penny not freaking out implies they both know they are in it for the long haul, JMHO.

If you are correct and Penny was so determined to get the no from Leonard to her second proposal so that she could give him a special proper proposal that he originally asked for in last season's VD episode. Then perhaps there is still a chance that we will get that special proposal in this season's May sweeps. From the taping report she sounded desperate for that no. So possibly she had already started planning it in her mind and didn't want it ruined. We all know she has a difficulty planning something truly romantic and special. I'm still shooting for a truly special proposal this year. Even if it's in the final episode of season seven.

After rereading the tapping report a few times, the way they played it so light hearted in this episode I didn't have a problem with another failed proposal. The best is yet to come and IMHO it is coming soon! :)

IIRC, Leonard said after his last proposal that they would look back on it someday and laugh.

Hooray for someday.

The light-hearted nature of the "failed Proposal" was so encouraging. When Molaro stated that they were going to even up the score card for the proposals, I pictured the kind of angst that was generated by the first three. But they kept it casual and whimsical, recognizing the absurdness of the action.

It looks like they are setting up for the real thing to be very special and memorable, just like they setup the Penny ILY in season 6 and the SIK this season.

Yet in the last episode they had Leonard giving Penny a shot for having a drinking problem and Penny giving Leonard a shot for being quick in the bedroom.   These are not "jabs" that normal couples give each other in front of other folks.   I would not be surprised if the writers have Leonard and Penny break up again, this time Leonard being the one saying that it is over.   I am not predicting that it WILL happen, I am just saying that I wouldn't be surprised if they did.   Maybe they will do it as a way for Penny to get help with her drinking problem then Leonard takes her back.

That is by far the most ridiculous comment I've ever read. First of all, the little banters between these two are nothing to be worried about. They (and many other couples) do that all the time. It shows how solid they are! Then her drinking... I don't see the drinking PROBLEM at all. I know people with drinking PROBLEMS and trust me, Penny doesn't have one (there's no scene that shows that she has a problem).

So let's say Leonard leaves her for her drinking (yes, totally IC, I know)... HOW would that help her? On the contrary, it would make everything worse! These people need help. You can't do that alone, it takes years! Do you even know what a drinking problem is?

They did hint at her drinking in season 5. I don't remeber the episode but she said "Ladies, we killed the bottle." and then Bernie said she only had a glas and Amy had none. But I completely agree that Leonard would never break up with her, he's been in love with her since the first episode. She'd turn into a miserable character with no job and no boyfriend and it would also be awkward that they'd show shots of the gang eating takeout without Penny because her and Leonard would probably not stay friends afterwards.

On a separate note, I just watched the Middle Earth Paradigm. Was that the first time Lenny kissed? It was wonderful and I loved that Penny ended up kissing Leonard instead of her jerky ex-boyfriend.

I still believe the only reason the writers had Leonard make that totally uncalled for remark about Penny's drinking wine was so they could stay home and watch Cinnamon. Along with setting the stage for their other snarky bantering during the episode. Penny doesn't have a drinking problem but the writers do enjoy a joke regarding drinking at her expense.

However, to say what the writers had L/P "jab" at each other in that episode was "a little banter" IMO is off the mark. Couples no mater what jabs they give each other when alone do not make snarky remarks about private issues in front of friends let alone strangers. That is where I have had the issue with the writing for Lenny in that episode. It was uneccessary and being a little rude to their SO.

I still don't see something bad there. Private issues? Everyone knows that Penny enjoys a glass of wine (or two). They had sex for 9 minutes, who cares? Where is this a private issue? Did they break up? Did they fight? No, so where's the problem? This banter was more cute than anything...

Where did I say in my post that they broke up or even where about too? No where!

You thought that their snarky banter was cute, where as I saw it differently. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. End of story! :)

The way I see it, there really isn't an issue because the remarks were made in front of friends. I think if Leonard really thought Penny had a drinking problem, he would speak to her away from the others. But I doubt that this show would go heavily into something like alcoholism; it's just not that kind of show.

I'm very hopeful now that they turn up the heat in a positive sense on the Leonard and Penny story because on reflection I don't know where they can go this season with other romance. They have to deliver those endorphins somehow. Then again, maybe Raj will get a romance going.
