Leonard And Penny Season 7 *spoiler* Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

I think three more seasons is guaranteed. L/P has been a couple a long time now. I'm not sure what kind of physical affection your expecting but it's got to be better than that Shamy kiss from the last episode.

At least a hug and kiss as good as the one she gave him at the airport when he left for the North Sea. A new car deserves that, at least.

Yeah I liked them as a couple tonight too.  They did seem very domestic tonight.  I liked it when Leonard asked her to take one for the team.  I didn't make too much of the beginning, she looked like she didn't get the part when she came in, by her expression, so the gang rightfully gave her the proper reaction, because whenever she gets a part she bounces off the walls.

I think more the point about the beginning was that she has been going on lots of auditions so the group gave the standard I'm sorry line when she didn't get the part. I know some on here want to see the actual auditions but alluding to it is fine IMO.

A nice, clever episode except for the end. Sheldon should have lost this one. Are the writers that afraid of change that they can't let Leonard win one? Sheldon is simply not that endearing. I did love how Amy played him. There are times that she really seems to have Sheldon's number, and they are usually the best episodes.

I do like how Penny is empowering Leonard to stand up to Sheldon. An important difference in the relationships shows in this episode too. Leonard is quite aware of how Penny influences him, and is knowingly OK with it. They acted like a good couple and team in this one. Sheldon has no clue that Amy is manipulating him unless she overplays her hand.

But what did Sheldon win? That they were sitting together at the end. It wasn't Leonard's idea to begin with to get the table. It started with Bernadette and the idea got pushed by Penny. Leonard's "win" was seeing Amy manipulating Sheldon by having him repeat everything Amy was saying. I think to me the irony was that the seven weren't in their right spots at the beginning. At the end they were. I think Sheldon acknowledged he didn't win everything in the episode by saying baby wins sometimes.

I'm getting a little excited about next episode, because if they keep the same tone between Leonard and Penny, the car thing should be really great, a real Lenny moment.

Sheldon's "win" was that everyone gravitated back to the most unreasonable person in the room. He views this as justification for his homeostasis. I don't think Leonard lost, since as you pointed out, the table wasn't really a big deal for him. Indeed, Leonard had the pleasure of watching Amy pull his strings in ways that Penny not only never had tried with him, but wouldn't.

The best part of this regarding Sheldon is that the last two episodes have shown that he is losing control of the relationship with Amy.

The best part of this episode regarding Leonard and Penny is that it is reinforcing their pair-bonding. It now very much is Lenny and Shamy. In fact, Sheldon pointed out that Leonard has pulled away from him, and he doesn't like it. An altogether wonderful Lenny episode.

Here to talk about this table. Great for our two, except that Penny folded. What does it take? And I expected them to have been handsy with each other at Ikea because that is what couples do when furniture shopping. I've been there - it happens. Leonard spends all his time with his arms crossed. What is the director doing? Can't they see it. These two are lovers. Show it, dammit. These are professional actors. They should be able to play that.

That said, there is little to question about L/P except why is Penny so scared of nudging the status quo. Will it have to wait for her to have career success? it's been hammered into us too, that Leonard has been subjugated by Sheldon. Leonard is a smart man and determined, and once wrestled Sheldon to the floor at a conference. Where did that go?

Sorry about the rhetorical questions - hoping that the long run they are planning will give them more chances for joy.

(Still trying to be unspoiled but I had to say something)

Cheers

I noticed that too, they don't seem to touch each other that much anymore.  And your right, they are boyfriend and girlfriend they should be playing around with each other more, don't tell me the magic is gone from their relationship already.

Maybe nudging the status quo would result in decisions that would have to be made that she isn't ready to make?

What decisions are you referring to? Moving in? Because that isn't the big deal that a lot of the forum makes it to be. They spend every night together, eat together, basically have a three bedroom apartment together. The only time Leonard pushed the issue was in response to bickering with Sheldon, he hadn't shown any interest before and hasn't since. I think they are both more than fine with the current living arrangements. No way is Amy ready to go from being a part-time nanny to a live-in one.

But for some people the L/P/S act is getting old and stagnant and IMO a little boring to watch at times. What we really just see is S/L's apartment. I just don't really see Penny's apartment as part of the equation.

With regard to Leonard is she waiting for a better offer? Maybe he is just her least worst option. That would be disappointing. This was only a table so perhaps there are better battles to fight. But Amy was without scruple in her approach. Penny was uncommitted.

And standing up to Sheldon's tyranny is not necessarily tied to moving forward with Leonard. The status quo in this instance is Sheldon as a megalomaniac and all pandering to him. She must be tired, because she used to threaten him with her calf roping skills.

Onwards to the end. :)

Well then I don't know what to tell you. L/P/S and H/R/B have been the main dynamics for a long time, changing only for couples or guys/girls plots. That's what works. But the show without the apartment is like Cheers without the bar.

Amy thought she was going to be dumped and had to play her cards correctly. Leonard had no thoughts about a tablet till Bernie brought it up. if Sheldon was sitting on the couch by himself it might have been worth Penny to battle Sheldon. But with Amy so pathetically needing Sheldon what was the point. As you said it was only a table.

This is so true. And Leonard is not going to murder Sheldon in his sleep... so let's see where this goes. Maybe they need a mutual enemy, like the sequester and the cuts to science programs. :) LOL.

I was commenting on your three bedroom apartment which it really isn't. It's S/L's. penny's apartment is Penny's apartment. if L/P relationship is going to go any further the S/L's apartment is going to eventually become less of a factor. Granted since Leonard had to buy her a car and she still has no job things aren't going to change in the foreseeable future. Edited by Chrismo

Yeah, no.  You think the apartment in "I Love Lucy" was everything?   How about Mary Richard's apartment?  Steve Douglass' or for that matter, all three of his first sons? There is no hard and fast rule that requires the sets  or characters don't change, and they have in past shows.

Actually Amy got what she wanted and she let Sheldon think he won something.

In the case of TBBT the elevator with yellow caution barricade tape has become part of the back story. and is kind of iconic. The tape and the out of order sign could be thought of as a metaphor for the relationships between the three main characters (crossed caution tape being Leonard and Penny, Out of order being Sheldon). Just a metaphor but hard to give up.

Lenny is now written as a husband and wife of long standing not as bf/gf. it's odd how the writers like to treat them like an old married couple with out making it official. And next week they take this position to an even greater level.

Yeah it kinda is a big deal.  Whether they spend all their free time together or not, they still have their own space and can within reason break up without having a lot of fanfare.  Moving in together or getting married (which was more of the line of thinking I was going with) is a big decision with plenty of ramifications and to not treat it as such in my opinion is negating the significance of it in a relationship...
